I honestly think Rare should just forget its entire IP legacy and start afresh with who they are right now as a team, and what they want to do.
Give them 3-4 years if need be, but let them discover themselves.

Best exclusives on 360. Yep. I just said that.
N&B is possibly the most underrated game ever.
Haha, cool cool. You know what though Murderdolls rings a bell no joke. One of my favorite things about PDZ was how close/small the community was. I feel like everyone knew everyone in that game.I remember seeing you online frequently back at launch, your posts on Rare sites and back and forth chat with Rare employees over the years in addition to "falcon" in your name made me remember it pretty well
My handle at that time was Murderdolls but I don't expect anyone to actually remember me, was so long ago.
Too bad they couldn't get an hold of the IPs that really mattered to Rare bottom line.In what is seen as one of the biggest studio acquisitions in gaming history, Microsoft makes a bold move by purchasing the Twycross studio and all of it's IP.
The only thing good from RARE's acquisition were the HD ports of N64. I lost all faith in them after the catastrophe that was Nuts & Bolts.
Nuts & Bolts is a great fucking game.
I'm not sure why Microsoft even bought Rare if they were just going to change them. Is anyone from the old Rare even there anymore? If not then they'll probably never go back to their old glory days form.

Nuts & Bolts was a garbage game that people are forcing themselves to like because it was one of five first party exclusives on the 360. Either sell the IP to Nintendo or leave it alone. I wouldn't mind another Viva Pinata, but the last one bombed.

This pretty, what's funny is when Microsoft brought out Rare they actually thought that they owned the Donkey Kong IP, until a Rare employee told them that they didn't.
It would be weird to find out late that they don't own goldeneye tooGot a source on this? I find that hard to believe.

It kind of makes me sick to my stomach that DK64 sold so much. I mean, my Dad bought the DK64 Jungle Green N64, so we were part of the problem, but geez.
Right now with Rare we're at a point where I don't want the Rare brand to mean Kinect Sports. The Rare brand can be more valuable to them, to us and to gamers than that.
Thing is, despite SEGA's shortcomings, they've actually made some very intelligent choices in terms of what they develop and - specficially - what they publish. Sonic may be dead, yeah, but Virtua Fighter, Yakuza, Total War, Phantasy Star, etc. etc. have remained solid franchises not to mention games like Valkyria Chronicles, Binary Domain, Vanquish, Bayonnetta, etcYeah they're up there with Sega as a former industry titan that are now a shadow of their former selves. Sega makes a decent game once a while too but they're nothing compared to their past selves. I'm always fascinated by Rare threads but there's always this sense of overwhelming disappointment and sadness to them..
For the love of god an actual Banjo-Threeie.
i want another Pinata game.
Nintendo had a good reason to sell off Rare. I really think they would have gotten worse no matter what after N64.
Aβydoς;126018839 said:Nintendo didn't sell. Nintendo lost Rare. Microsoft simply stole it from them.
And LOL at "they were destined to become shit". What is that even supposed to mean.
Banjo-piñata.
But what Spencer will do instead is somehow pay to have Bubsy Xbone exclusive.
Rare only good game was the Donkey Kong Country series and Banjo-Kazooie the rest ranged from meh to sub par.
Ehh I disagree, I hated the HD port and ended up buying a N64 and the original game and played that way.
But it wasn't Banjo-Threeie or a proper platforming Banjo-Kazooie. As a spin off nuts and bolt would have been fine.
Microsoft was getting to the console market and was buying up studio, I guess they wanted to buy Rare to make them to make Nintendo games but for them. alas that plan didn't work as the Nintendo fans didn't move with them.

Needs years on the x-axis with 1980's to 1990's on the valleys and then 2002-present the flatline.
I can't imagine a new Banjo without a Grant Kirkhope soundtrack.
lol, of course Nintendo could afford to buy the rest of the stocks but they pondered it wasn't a wise move (that's the reason Nintendo never got more than 49% of the shares).Haha agreed with you there. Dunno where people think Rare was doomed before Nintendo left besides Star Fox Adventures, which keep in mind Miyamoto changed to Star Fox. Nintendo wanted to keep Rare, but couldn't afford them.
2008
Viva Piñata: Trouble in Paradise (82 - Metacritic)
Gonzo the Great is a garbage person who isn't willing to accept change and innovation in a franchise they liked and would prefer games to stay stagnant and never evolve to far greater things than they originally began.
I don't know about you but for me Rare died in 2008.
Banjo is their swan song.

Soooooo not true.
