It seems to me that Jacob, while benevolent-ish, ultimately cares about the mission first and foremost.

Smokey will do whatever it takes no matter what, and if people die thats just fine.

Weirdest thing. Convinced a friend at work to rent the first season. She texted saying she was hooked about half way through Pilot pt 1, and then texted me again saying she didn't know if it was her kind of thing after the polar bear showed up:lol I think I convinced her to stick with it. She did say she was constantly distracted by her children, to which I replied LOST is a show that doesn't lend itself well to...distractions. Hopefully she stuck with it. I'll find out tomorrow.

Me and this particular girl are just friends, but I've totally failed in getting any of the lovely ladies I'm dating into LOST. I'm batting 0-4. They would rather watch some dumbass reality show. Hell, one doesn't even own a TV. If I ever run into a remotely hot, slightly sane chick who's hardcore into LOST I'll probably marry her.

My girlfriend has been watching since the start. She's the kind of person who is turned off by any of the more exagerated fantasy elements, I think a lof of girls are like that. I should switch teams and get a Lostpedia loving bear.
 
Jimmy fallons parody, LATE aired episode 2 tonight. He didnt mention of there would be an episode 3.

Not as good as the first one, but it was fun

Solitary because its about Sayid, Rising Sun because its called Sundown, or both?

So, guess what, Canada-GAF? It appears that LOST is on CTV not one, not two, but THREE hours early tonight! Now normally, I wait and watch it with our American friends, but tonight I say FUCK THE SOUTH! :lol :lol Since I have CTV HD, Ill be watching this bad boy at 7 tonight rather than 10.

My friend I was talking about earlier actually just finished the whole series. He started about 3 weeks ago to the day.:lol He's all caught up and now he can get in on the hysteria in real time.

More stuff from the recent Lost event, Carlton Cuse told E! Online in regards to the two timelines: "We have two timelines we're exploring simultaneously, and when the audience understands how those two timelines connect, hopefully it will provide a satisfaction that will make you happy and give you what you want but not in the way you want it." As for that tricky "when," he'd only say this (nothing huge, just pin points when we can expect the flash sideways to go away):
"It's too much of a reveal, but let's say it won't happen until the very end of the show because that's obviously the big question of the season."

Yeah, my avatar changed to a picture of a PC fan on some wood earlier today.

Oh yeah and the latest sneak peak that is up is from the episode after tonight's which leaked early. Avoid it; I haven't watched it yet, but apparently it's very spoilery.

I'm not entirely in love with this factoring into the endgame yet. We really do need more evidence as to what's going on to trust them taking it that far.

Oh god. If this is an epilogue, then, no hyberbole, the show will be ruined for me and this will go down as the worst ending in television history given that they had 3.5 years to come up with it.

I really don't think this can be an epilogue, particularly when you look at what Juliet said. They've got to be happening alongside each other.

Yes. Some of LOST GAF has been suggesting as much, and Ive been laughing at them for even thinking such a retarded idea would be used. But Cuse's remarks are starting to worry me a bit.

I'm interpreting his comments to mean that they have more stuff to flesh out and hint and build before they can resolve/explain the X reality.

At the end of last week's Lost, ABC pledged that so many secrets would be revealed in tonight's episode, "Sundown," that they couldn't even show us a preview. Sure, the show's promised answers and not delivered in the past — but this is the final season! They have to give us answers sometime! Tonight's episode will focus on Sayid, but also offer some clues on the personal history of Dogen, master of the Others' Temple. Vulture spoke with Hiroyuki Sanada (who plays Dogen) about his character's mysterious past.

We know tonight's episode, "Sundown," is a Sayid-focused episode. We're assuming Dogen plays a role?
Yeah, I think it's a big moment for Dogen, too. Little by little, I think my past will reveal everything. It does focus on Sayid; his present and his sideways. And, also, we have a big scene together.

Lost's producers keep teasing fans by mentioning that Dogen holds a huge secret to the show. Any hints?
I don't know about the top secret, yet. But he has a key.

A key? Quite a few Lost fans are focusing on Dogen's necklace. Is that a key?
I cannot say. I mean "key" of the story... or secret.

Dogen says he doesn't "like the taste of English on [his] tongue." What does English taste like to him?
Yeah, that was my favorite line. One of my friends called me and said, "I love that line. I will use that." I started speaking English on the second episode and now I finally speak only English. It was a good surprise. And also, he has a reason he doesn't want to speak English on the island before.

In last week's episode, "The Lighthouse," Dogen confronts Hurley who was snooping around the temple. Hurley's excuse involved an Indiana Jones reference. Does Dogen even know who Indiana Jones is?
That's the balance of the character of Hugo. Yeah. [Laughs] I like his character. But, yeah, the temple building is a lot like Indiana Jones. I love that line.

How would you describe Dogen?
He's the leader of The Temple Others. He grew up in Japan and, somehow, he came to the island a long time ago. He's not a Buddhist, he's kind of a medical doctor and also he has a mission on the island. He has a lot of layers in his mind and in his past. He has dignity, but also some different faces because of the past. It will be revealed quite soon.

How long has he been on the island?
Just over
15
years.

What's the chain of command? Did Dogen only report to Jacob? Maybe Ben?
I can't tell you, exactly. He has a mission he was sent by another person.

Dogen seems to change his mind a lot. At first Dogen wanted to kill Sayid's group; then he tries to save Sayid's life; then he tries to poison Sayid.
Dogen doesn't want to kill anybody without reason for the mission.

Is it hard to join a show as a brand new character that is this important?
Oh yeah, there's a lot of pressure. I was told about [the show] and the over 100 something [episodes] from season one to season five. I was like, oh my God. And we talked about the importance. Yeah, I have big pressure but I have fun. I'm glad to work with the great crew and cast.

Had you watched much of the show before joining the cast?
Yeah. Not everything, but I saw some of them. I knew it was a high quality drama and had a very popular, great cast.

You have a pretty extensive background in martial arts. Are we going to see Dogen show off these skills in upcoming episodes?
I think so. I did a little for the beginning — for the first episode. But, also, yeah... I'll have a few more fighting scenes.

Dogen translates roughly to "the temple of eternal peace." Also, Dogen was a 13th century Buddhist teacher. Any significance to your character?
Yeah, he's not a Buddhist. Dogen's name is inspired by a famous Buddhist in Japan a long time ago. He's not a Buddhist, per se. It's just a name. And also he has another real name from growing up in Japan.

I was just doing some work for a client, and I ended up entering the number 77.

Then I realized that was a theme of a third season episode, titled "Enter 77".

The Losties on Ajira entered the past in 1977.

just something I caught that's probably been caught before.

Is there any way an epilogue could work to your satisfaction? The main reason I think most people hate the idea of the reset it that all of the character development gets wiped out and whilst the characters may get a happy ending, they're now the characters we've watched grow and get to know each other.

However, there are undoubtedly hints that their memories aren't altogether gone and that the island time hasn't been wiped away, it's just the past that lead up to their new present and they're suffering, hopefully, temporary amnesia. So would a reset work for you if the epilogues lead up to them remembering everything? Whilst I think the epilogue theory is looking more likely than we previously thought, if it does happen I don't think it can be nearly as simple as we're thinking an epilogue would be (a reset happens, the past changes, they all live happily ever after).
 
I think an epilogue is a cop-out, honestly. And I think any situation in which our Losties didn't land on the island is total shit, even if they have some vague memories of doing so. Like Solo said, it's the worst thing that could possibly happen without some kind of miracle going on.
 
I would just feel cheated if that is the ending. I know they keep trying to say that both timelines are important, and I agreed on the premise that the alternate timeline connects to the story of the original timeline not the other way around. I don't want Jack-with-a-kid's ending (even with memories of the island), I want Jack-without-a-kid's ending.

And what the hell would that do to Smokey/Jacob? What, did the smoke monster get on that submarine as well?
