Lost Odyssey (Xbox 360) Official Japanese Release Thread

How hard is this game? Easy as Blue Dragon or? Does it "require" grinding?

I found it quite a big harder, you can't really grind unless you leave and go to another area as the area's are level capped, and you can't always progress to a tougher area anyway.

Is there any texture pop in problems like Mass Effect?

Nope. I didn't experience a single case of texture pop-in throughout my entire 60+ hours of the game. In exchange for texture pop-in you have some fairly long loading times, though.

It's a lot harder than Blue Dragon. I didn't (couldn't may be more appropriate) grind for experience points until the very end of the game and that was only to get the achievements for getting all of the skills for non-immortal characters. The encounter rate is pretty low, but the battles, even with the yard trash, can take a very long time. The battle times reminded me a lot of Xenosaga 1 in that they were decent fun, but they started to get annoying after a while in longer dungeons. The boss battles can be very challenging if you don't go in with a strategy. There were multiple bosses where I had to try 5-6 times to finally beat them.

Strategy over grinding.

That's what rpgs should be all about. I'm still on the fence about this one.

I need a good story and cool characters to finish a RPG....and apparently this game doesn't have a good story.

A good story is completely subjective. I thought it was just as good as most JRPGs and just as good as any of the Final Fantasy games' stories. I must admit that I only found a few of the characters appealing, though.

Is there really 20 hours of cut scenes?

I'm really not sure. It really didn't feel like there were more cutscenes than most other RPGs. It never got to the point where I thought "when will the damn cutscene end?! let me play the damn game!!" like I did with the Xenosaga series.

It's all about the quality of the game I don't think that question is really important to your enjoyment of the game.

I never once thought that there were too many cutscenes the game is very enjoyable.

The only reason I brought it up is because people was trolling on the game, saying it was 50% cutscenes. Sounds like it's going to be a solid jrpg. I'm still enjoying Blue Dragon so LO sounds like a day purchase for me.

Listening to OST right now. Sheena Easton is totally kicking ass on Eclipse of Time :D

Girl still has it!

It's a total clinic on how to use the vocal cords.

"Dark Saint" is one of my major favorites as well. Uematsu is too awesome for his own good.

Agree, i wasnt fond of "what you are" but "Eclipse of Time" is a really nice and beautiful track.

Apart from the main themes, one of my favourites from the first listenings has been "A formidable Enemy appears", the one that appeared in one of the last gamersyde videos with a boss battle.

The song with the English lyrics was really quite awful. I felt embarassed even listening to it.

Which characters did you find amusing?

Never mind, I found the answer in a previous post of yours.

Yeah but that must be "what you are" which is really cheesy. There is another song in the ost by Sheena Easton, "Eclipse of time" and that is a nice one.

Lost Odyssey: First dream in English (Asian version) video:

http://www.gamersyde.com/news_5843_en.html

already posted by Blimblim in another thread but whatever.

I found the lyrics in Eclipse of Time to be cringeworthy, the worst song on the OST. What You Are isn't that bad, it reminds me of classic Elton John.

But A Return, Indeed... is looking to be my favourite vocal song by Uematsu so far. It's the vocal version of the one that plays in the background in that video. Really upbeat and happy, unlike the Piano version.

I was at a friends house, and i watched him play the 1st two hours or so of the game, pretty awesome, and i was getting really excited with the fact that my game was on its way from play asia.

Till he reached the 1st boss. Wtf, how are you supposed to beat that thing? I watched him try 5 times, with different strategies!!!

What have i gotten myself into, i'll never be able to finish this game if every boss is gonna be hard as shit.

StarEye said:
Did he skip the random encounters?

Not one! He even went back and fought 4 times, because he hadn't linked every Skill before, so we thought that could be the reason he wasn't powerful enough.

No dice, the dude with the shaft had a really powerful Flare spell, but Kaim and the hot chick Flare spells were rather weak in comparison.

I also had trouble here. Here is how you pass it :
You need to put use power drink on Kaim and equip him with a fire ring. Heal everyone with Seth and use Jansen's fire magic when u can.

Where can he get that?

the stuff to build the rings you find along the way. i'm sure you have what u need just combine it on the build rings screen. the power drink, i'm not sure where i got it becuase u only have one. i think maybe its on the path on the way to the boss. run over the rocks that have items in them and i bet its in there, or the cabin that you sleep in. have him investigate his items. i didn't discover it until i was in combat with the boss, went to my items screen and scrolled down (there are no arrows on the menu ui telling you that more scroll list items exist )

*edit* i was level 13 when i beat that boss.

The boss is weak to water, you need the aqua spell, and to equip and learn the anti-paralyse skill so the boss' limit break doesnt fuq up your entire party.

i actually saw one of the nice cardboard cutout things at an EBGames in downtown Seattle for this. i guess MS isn't totally dropping the ball.

Heh, that did it. He hit him with 3 perfects from kaim, each dealing 270 hits, the hot chick used flare bombs and the magic dude flared it.

It was really fast and looked easy :lol

Well i gotta say, from what i saw, Kaim rocks, the text stories about his past are powerful and really give Kaim depth, and makes him a really awesome character, his armor rocks too.

1st main character in a JRPG since FF8 that i like. The Hot chick (Seth?), she's awesome too, has style, and she's very upbeat, love it. And the magic dude (j something), he's kinda cool too, he has a bit of an annoying thing going on sometimes, but in other times he's really funny, and is it me or sometimes his voice resembles that of Topher Grace from the 70's show!?

Yeah, now i'll wait for my copy, i don't want to be spoiled any further.

Just got the game today, its awesome. Very nice intro and graphics.

I caved in and asked my friend to borrow me the 1st DVd.

Man i'm loving this game, i love the characters, the cut scenes are great, not "flashy" great, great on other aspects, like direction and acting. The voice acting is awesome, this is probably the best english voice acting i've encountered in a Jrpg.

I'm really liking it, it seems that the story focus is the development of these characters and not exactly about this super epic event happening around the main characters, honestly? Feels fresh and i'm digging the focus on characters alot.

Man the bosses can be a bitch, the 1nd boss was hard, i had to die a couple of times till i figured it out, but that's the thing, i figured it out, i didn't have to go back and grind till level 20 and then win by sheer brute force.

I've been playing non stop today, it has been really nice. The random encounters are just the right amount so far, they aren't annoying at all, and the gameplay itself is pretty good, no complaints.

Graphics wise so far, i would say that the Art Direction is great 90% of the time, but technically it doesn't impress. I would say that the tech + art = great looking game, but the tech itself is solid.

Can't wait to play more, i'm just pausing for a lunch break :D

Is that the english version? If it is, where did you get? it if I might ask.
I'm so excited for the game. I don't have much time to play but maybe 2-3 rpgs a year and this one I've been looking forward to for a long time. :)

Awesome. Glad your enjoying it. I know some people thought the battles looked to be a little on the slow side but really thats not an issue with me. One of my all time fav rpgs was Skies of Arcadia and the battle system in that was a little slow itself but didnt bother me none.

i wonder if asian xbox 360 is worth getting? seems like its getting a lot of games before north america and the games are usually fully translated (BD,LO,etc). plus, a ton of US games are region free...

Seems like some major details are missing in your pics on the textures, but perhaps that's just because your digital cam is obscuring them?

If the camera isn't the issue then calibrate that bad boy! This game really pops when the television is properly calibrated. If you need some suggestions investigate a raised Backlight, Dynamic Contrast High, Color Temperature Cool, Contrast max, Dynalight On, Brightness 50, Color 72.

You would almost certainly be better off. Japan / Asia is the only region on the Xbox 360 where every single game is region locked. A large portion of U.S. and European games are region free, and even if they are not there is usually an Asian version of the game released at approximately the same time and usually for a much lower price.

Man i just went through "Alex and Myna" dream and "don't you forget me now, you hear?", goddamn.

This is some gooooood shit. Seriously, this is the kind of stuff you haven't seen in other games, as you read these stories of Kaim's past, you start imagining them happening, and Kaim's character continuously grows in depth and in the Player - Character connection.

Man this is awesome, it really gives Kaim those layers you don't find in other JRPGs at least, this character is already way beyond other JRPGs main characters in my book.

So good. And i'm only in the 1st DVD
i'm in the "white" city, after the boat
.

When you play this game, seriously, Thousand Year dreams might seem like a drag, the concept of them, and when you get your first dream, but if you give it a try, man you'll love it. Hell i don't even have a habit of reading books and i'm really liking all this reading :lol

After playing Mass Effect I'm looking for another epic RPG... and it seems that Lost Odyssy is to be the next big one...

Can anyone who has been playing an import tell me if I'll even remotely like it? I know it's turn-based (poo), and I know it has random encounters (bleh), but is the rest of it (mainly the story) so good that it's actually still worth playing through?

Ok i'm lost. Huh, it's the white city after the boat.

the queen went unconscious, but i went exploring around the city, now i don't know what to do, i go to the port and then i leave the town and go to this spirit forest but i can't progress there because i don't have a spirit energy user

?

I really lost track of what i was supposed to do. :lol
