Lost Odyssey (Xbox 360) Official Japanese Release Thread

Juts finished watching the second video, and I've got to say that it's looking awesome. the english voice acting seems pretty solid too. I really can't wait for this, it's easily my most anticipated game since FF VIII. :D

so how does the whole circle thing that comes up while attcking work? watching the second vid on blims site it looks hard or the player doesn't understand it yet.

You have to hold the button for the outside circle to come up, then release the button when the circle overlaps with the one in the centre. Took me a while to figure out too.

Could we please get some pics of the game packaging? Interested to see how they stacked 4 dvds in there...

There are two flaps or whatever they are called inside.

Honestly, that's a horrible idea. An actual implementation of anything close to D&D's rules in a completely turn based game would be the slowest and most boring thing ever. This is why all CRPGs that use D&D rules choose to make it pseudo-realtime so most of the turns are invisible.
Uh, basically only the Infinity Engine does this.

Everything from Gold Box games to Temple of Elemental Evil does otherwise, and it works just fine. ToEE has maybe the greatest battle system of any RPG ever.

This game has some weird split-screen 60's style views going on. I really do hate the way the soldiers look, those big ass hat's they wear are ridiculous.

Don't be so closed minded :(

I like the style of the soldiers a lot.

videogame character looks ridiculous. news at 11.

Wow, I went through the credits in a little more detail, and basically, the SH team is mostly accounted for in LO. Forget all the talk about how Feel Plus was ex-S-E staff, or ex-LoD staff or ex-Scacrab staff. There are like 30-40 Shadow Hearts team staff on LO. They account for the majority of any job scope in the game:

- The art director
- The majority of the programmers + lead programmer
- The majority of the background artists + lead environmental designer
- The majority of the CG designer/animators + lead CG designer and lead animator
- The audio lead, and the 2 non-outsourced sound artists
- The battle planner
- The visual production manager
- Half the cut-scene visual artists

game looks really good and honestly I can't wait, but watching it already does make me miss FF12's battle system :(

its such a shame all those great ideas will likely disappear from our RPGs going forward. main, FF12 was so good.

Awesome, I loved the SH games (SH3 was kinda underwhelming though...), gives me more confidence that I'll enjoy this game. :D

Lost Odyssey does not equal all RPGs going forward.

Game looks gorgeous and the music is awesome. I would like to see some videos after a few hours into the game.

Thanks for the vids!!

/waits patiently

Was Sakaguchi a SH fan or something?

in any case, i loved SH, so this is a good thing!

Well, what probably happened was Sakaguchi got Ohsawa as the art director, and at the same time they were trying to get LO production out of MS studios and form a private developer. So Ohsawa probably went "Dude, because Shadow Hearts is BOMBA, my guys are going to be out of a job soon...." and then Sakaguchi decided to just integrate them into FeelPlus, since they have RPG development experience! Maybe!

That sounds plausible.

- Voice acting is great
- Graphics look fantastic
- Load times are a little long, but they aren't too bad
- Knights armour designs are stupid, as are the cars...how do those things not topple over?
- Enemies look a bit too easy

Yea, my thoughts pretty much echo everyone elses. I wish we could have seen the menus.

Does anyone know what the bar at the top right indicates?

doesnt really remind me of SH at all, which is a good thing...SH had some potential, but fell flat in many aspects...mainly the terrible story in the second game and card board cut out villains...

game looks nice anyway, the atmosphere in the first segment especially, though considering the engine, Im not sure if we will see any lush sorroundings, none of the scenarios so far have been at least...the animation hasnt really improved over previous gen games though, especially the way he runs, it doesnt seem like it gels with the environment....

overall the game looks far more interesting than BD...

Jesus Roger Bacon Christ. I was quite interested in LO, but the more duckroll speaks of the involvement of the SH team, the more it's turning to be the main reason for me to finally get a 360.

I'm still scared of the rrod, though. :-(

I'm pretty sure that's the defense line or "wall" mechanic. Basically how much defense the front line characters are providing for the backline characters (not really useful in a party of 1, however).

Also not quite sure why people are acting like this is really new material.
Pretty much just the TGS06 demo polished up a bit around the edges.

Yes, the cars are ridiculous, though.

Do want!

Good-
Graphics look great.
No sign of pop-in(yet), maybe they should share that part of the code with Bioware?
Like the tone, much darker than BD.

Uh oh-
just hoping the one screen tear I saw in the "cnn camera" when running to attack doesn't happen too often.

Blim said this guy's xbox was having issues reading the disk or something, so maybe that is it.

I hope the colors get richer later as well, hard to tell with only the first areas.

I love the music, but why does the victory music remind me of his old ff games midi sound and all? I hope it sounds better in stereo at home.

Bad-
Not out in NA yet.

Woah look at what i wake up too plenty of Lost Odysssey vids time to get to downloading:D too bad im on my notebook instead of my pc which the motherboard fried oh well.:D :D

I remember seeing several battles in a big forest on Gametrailers before. Probably posted by a visitor. I do hate some of his lack of interaction with a lot of the environment though like running into invisible walls or boxes and still running. He does block heavy winds(TGS) and pick up objects.

Random JRPG question. Why do characters STILL use subspace to hold their weapons? I mean why not just put them away on your waist, back, leg whatever?

Watching the first 10 minutes of the game I was thinking, "what is the point of heavy armor if the most common weapon of your enemy goes right through that armor like butter?" Sure enough, the main character comes along and he is sporting lightweight half-armor. :p

Graphics look great. Character/vehicle/world design looks really nice. The troop carriers made me think of dragonflies or grasshoppers with wheels.

Gameplay looks like the same tired stuff that has been part of the JRPG formula for the last 10 years. Random battles with enemies that have 1/10th your HP/abilities and chests randomly strewn across the landscape.

I was pretty happy to see the first area have items hidden in bits of the scenery, objects that actually made sense after the opening. Then the next area they replace that with crates that disintegrate on touch, then the next area we're back to the jrpg standard, chests sitting out there just waiting for your character to open. Within 10 minutes we've gone from cool to bleh.

I'll buy it because I like jrpgs, even with the tired gameplay, but they're not going to win over any new people with this game. I'd pay $5 more for a version where the main character doesn't have that goofy bit of hair between his eyes.

That annoyed the crap out of me... I hope I can throw a hat on him or something and move that out of the way...

My excitement for this game is tripled after seeing those vids though... I miss corny rehashed JRPGs. After looking over the character list and plot details, etc, this game looks a lot like FFIV, I think they mentioned this on 1UP yours as well...

10 first minutes part 3 is online ! Haven't watched it yet, but it's named "City".

<3

Maybe they are edited out of these videos or hidden by cutscenes, but I've yet to see one of those 20 second load times. Game is looking pretty damn awesome, the soundtrack is freaking epic! My only problem with the game is that I'm playing it after Mass Effect, the way dialog was handled in that game is going to hinder my experiences with all future RPGs. I must admit that the english voice overs in this game are quite impressive though.

Edit: I'm glad to see that the environments in the game are a lot more 'filled'. My biggest complaint with Blue Dragon were the frequent barren environment and cities (Don't get me wrong, the game was fantastic.) Glad to see a lot more going on.

I want to like this game, but I really don't like the characters design. FF is hard enough to stomach my way through, but dude's in skin tight armored mid-riffs is where I draw the line.

Someone didn't play Final Fantasy XII :)
