Lost Planet producer talks about exclusivity (will "TRY" for X360 exclusive)

as a designer, I'm shocked he doesn't want to put the game on as many platforms (and in as many people's hands) as possible. Then again, maybe he just doesn't want to deal with it.

Sorta like how Namco's Ridge Racer 6 is not spoken of anymore although when it was announced it was "OMG! Namco bringing the big guns! Support is shifting! Ridge Racer roxxorz my boxxorz!"

man today has been FILLED with bombs!

If adequate multiplatform games actually become a reality this gen, gamers win. Assasin's Creed and (possibly?) Lost Planet are looking to be top of the game already

Damn. Capcom has little to no faith, in any company other than Sony. Its' smart from a business perspective, but I highly doubt that a lot of Sony's Exclusives (like DMC) will ever see face on 360.

I doubt it. I think it is the timed exclusivity that is most important with fanboys. Using GTA as an example, by the time it hit XBOX most people with an XBOX already had it on PS2, or it was such old hat by then that they didn't really care. PS2 fans didn't immediatly start dismissing the series after that though. With me, when it comes to great developers and great games, I would prefer to see the game sell as many copies as possible over as many systems as possible to guarantee more great games in the future from that company.

GTA wasn't used as fodder in graphical pissing contests the way LP has been.

By now it's blatantly obvious that next-gen dev costs are too high and Sony and MS's target demographics overlap too greatly for third-party games to remain exclusive to either platform. It doesn't make sense.

Aside from moneyhats and potential technology limitations, we're going to see damn near everything on both 360 and PS3.

Kinda makes me wish for a single standardized format, but perhaps that's no good either.

Guess I'll just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Kinda funny to see Sony fans mewling for games to come to their platform. The times they are a-changin'.
Actually I think it is equally funny how the Xbox Freedom Fighters in the other thread were denying that this game had no chance of going multiplatform. Almost similar to how the SDF doesn't think Assassins Creed won't go multiplatform. How ironic.

All this sounds like to me is like when Itagaki or Kojima humours fans of other consoles by saying that they are interested in doing something on/porting to another console - and they never do...

Keep the faith guys... I've never seen so much people wish for a game to be ported from an Xbox console since Ninja Gaiden... damn...

Funny thing is too that it's never the other way around - if I want an exclusive, I find some way to get the console it's on, not just sit in the dark trolling and praying for a port...

eh, doesn't have the same bite when the PS3 is still yet to be released

If Capcom ports to PS3 isn't as nearly as important as when they port the games. 3 months after release? 6 months? Any wait longer then 6 months reduces the games importance to the console it's coming to. If you can wait 6 months for Lost Planet or Devil May Cry, then neither game are console sellers for you and that's all that this fanboy dick waving is about, it's the idea that you don't have to buy a rival console to own the game.

Either direction Capcom goes I'm all for it.
They're an excellent developer that deserves as much exposure as possible. Course all of the future PS3 owners know they won't be losing any of their exclusives...right?

And yeah by the time Lost Planet PS3 comes out X360 owners like myself will have already played it to death and all we'll have to lament is why the PS3/60 servers aren't linked so we can smack you around for awhile. :)

Heck I've been wanting to give the PS3 Ninja Gaiden 2 as well but I figured everyone would dismiss it anyway..I mean shoot you have DMC4 right?

Capcom got me once with Resident Evil 4. I won't do that shit again. I'll sit in the dark praying for a port if I have to.

Capcom's questionable choice of going out of their way to use some Korean actor's likeness for the lead (when even more well-known Jean Reno didn't help Onimusha 3 in the West) was apparently made specifically to appeal to audiences in Japan. So it almost seems destined to be on a system more popular in Japan where the actor might be considered a positive.

He's pretty popular, I'm not sure in Japan, though, Chinese people seem to have this whole Korean soap obsession thing going recently (before it was Japanese soaps but that seemed to have expired). If this game was aimed at the US, there's no reason why this guy would be used, nobody knows who the smurf he is. I saw him in some boxing and gambling drama though. Also, Kaneshiro Takeshi isn't really THAT popular in Japan either, he was more popular in other asian markets because he whores himself out to make taiwanese and hk movies, a lot of Japanese actors are too good for that stuff.

If Capcom ports this to the PS3, I will buy it.

well, it's not like people are purely basing their hype on a few screenshots or videos here and there. The demo was pretty damn good.

You do relaize this may just be a ploy to get Microsoft to pony up more dough. There are actual ways of making a game virtually exclusive (like heavy contractual penalties for porting). But whatever. The only reason reason I care for console exclusives is they are usually the best games on the systems, multiplatform releases tends to smear a bit of shit on games, and since I will own all three consoles I like the idea of console exclusives.

Your right this has never happened before ever. Just like games have never been cancelled for Sony systems before the PS3.

Why all the "OMG legendary thread" comments? Sure, LP is on a lot of 360 owners must-have lists. If it goes on the PS3 do 360 owners scratch it off their list? Hell no...

exactly. It's like when all the Oblivion PS3 rumors started flying, did xbox 360 owners all of a sudden disavow Oblivion? No, they bought it in droves and, for the most part, still loved it. It's not like everyone is in a big pissing war.

Of course not. Nobody cares about this shit except for a few people on message boards.

What's funny about that? It's true. I've always said that you should play and anticipate the games that exist, even if you're secretly hoping for ones that don't. But some of the greatest Xbox games were on the PC, some of the best Xbox 360 games are on the PC and PS2, and people are still buying them. You're telling me you think Xbox 360 owners would be less likely to buy a game if it were suddenly announced for the PS3? The Xbox platform THRIVES on this "Multiplatform generation" that's picking up, so the more the better. Heck, any company that isn't Sony is extremely lucky to have a developer of Capcom's caliber making exclusive games for their platform, so if it goes to the PS3 later, so what? I already have a 360, and so do many at this forum. No one's whining.

If lost plant does get released on the PS3 it will probably be 6 to 12 months later.

Dead Rising is exlusive to the 360 though. It has the microsoft seal on it.

Heh. Yeah, rather interesting choice of words there.

Personally increased multi-platform development is generally a bad thing from my viewpoint. Granted Im a dork that ends up owning all these boxes, and its better for the gamers wallets that want to stick to one console. But when it comes to quality of the production, concurrent development is more often than not to the detriment of the end product's potential, even on lesser hardware. Architectures vary (in some aspects wildly so) so abstraction rules the day, and resources are finite as it is.

Wouldn't think there'd be much beef over timed exclusives though. At least there's a singular platform that was a focus at one point or another.

Wellllllllllll... if you had waited till the game was released, you would have had time to change your mind, since the PS2 version was announced before the GC version was even out... sorry man

Yeah, right.

You can't just say that and not give me an example now, can you?

Quick, give me one before I go to bed - kinda tired right now, and I need some z's...

i'd expect it on the ps3 eventually (along with Dead Rising). but that won't keep me from playing it on day one on 360. just like i did with RE4 on GCN; this game just looks to be too amazing to wait.

Yeah I think DMC4 will go to the 360 as well. Capcom mentioned that the first 60% of game development is universal and same for 360 and PS3. However, all I care is about is if the game is optimized for a specific console, and DMC4 is. Just now word is starting to get around that the 360 is the shit when it comes to Capcom games, but DMC4's already in development for almost 2 years now with the exclusive PS3 mindset with development -- So I am happy, all is good. *hugs 360, and cleans off the spot the PS3 shall be sitting a 1.5 years from now*

Funny thing is -- at the many inevitable interviews with Kobayashi at TGS he'll probably say DMC4 is still PS3 exclusive and always will be -- but after what happened with him and RE4 I don't think we can really trust the word 'exclusive' coming out of his mouth.

I really does suck that Lost Planet might end up on the PS3 -- MS finally gets a strong lineup from Capcom and first chance they get ported.

What, of you personally? I really couldn't care enough. That part of your comment indicated Xbox fanboys in general (otherwise the comment makes no sense, really), in which case I'll point to FF, MGS, DMC threads for the last year.

who gives a flying shasta mcnasty - bottom line is the game is great (based on the demo) and everyone should play it!

Dude all you have to do is go to the damn
Assassin's Creed
threads

The best part about the Xbox Defense Force, is most of them are really on the MS Payroll.:lol

Odd about that. Why don't we have more Nintendo and Sony mouthpieces? Riiiiiiiight. :lol

Good! This is a game I was going to have to miss out on. Guess not anymore, thanks Capcom!

They'll never go multiplat with DMC4, NEVER!~ :lol :lol

Winner right here.

The fanboys can measure their console-penises all day long; meanwhile the rest of us will actually be enjoying the console-poohtang.
