LTTP: Battlefield Bad Company

Yes! The weapons classes are all really balanced and fun to play, and the maps all have great layouts with lots of interesting spots to fight over.

Only gripe would be lack of gameplay modes, but I guess the maps wouldn't be as good if they had to accommodate for that.

Where did you get it for 15$?
I'd love to play it, but have so many games to start right now. But for 15$ I'd get it eyes closed.
You're italian, right? From Spain here.

Hi Europe's Champ, all hail Le Furie Rosse (that's how we call you guys) :D
Yep, Italy here, there's a nice deal going at Gamerush (BB's in-franchise gamestores) where you could get a (nice and kinda new) game for 24€ (I got Mirror's Edge) and a second one for half that (Bad Company being my chosen one, for €12).

I stopped playing when the stat boosting shit got out of hand. I'd pick up people in my damn APC only to see them try to flip over a Humvee for fucking points. -_-

Has this been fixed?

Well, I love that they gave away those DLC for free.
Are those two what you'd call "meaty" updates?

I didn't really like the conquest style stuff, but at least it's a free DLC. due to huge open spaces it sort of limits the tactics you can use in gold rush.

In some maps as an attacker we would spawn as demo and shoot the crate from afar (really afar), saving our precious "reinforcement bar"

Pro tip, in harvest day, first map from the barn (where the crate is) you can take out the attackers Arty cannon (look for the smoke!) Really pisses the shit out the attacking team.

I enjoyed this game overall, but I do not understand the praise for the explosions. They sound great, but the visual effects are really weak. Where's the fire? Where's the sense of heat? Why are the blasts so glowy white? It's especially disappointing for a game that is so focused on blowing things up. Games like GTA IV and CoD: World at War have far better explosions than Bad Company.

Shooting the bad guys was also a very hollow and unsatisfying experience. Again, the sound of the weapons was great, but enemies don't react at all to being shot; there's no feedback whatsoever to indicate that your bullets are impacting their bodies. You just deplete their invisible life bar until they ragdoll weightlessly.

The structure of Single Player was fantastic, considering this is an open world game and DICE is behind it. I loved the environments, guns and everything else had very good sound, characters had great personality and probably the main driving force behind the game. Yes AI is pretty bad, but it's still fairly fun driving tanks and blowing shit up.
Multiplayer is much improved since the update cause they added more maps and conquest mode, so there is some reason to play. Some classes are over power, but you will usually use most of them depending on the map.

Finally got this.
Haven't played much the single played campaign, 'cause I was in need of some good multiplayer.
Sadly, in all the games I've been in I've found a shitload of lag, making the game almost unplayable in most of the cases.

However, in case the game worked good, I think the amount of bullets you have to shoot to kill somebody is completely disproportionate.
Coming from CoD4, I still find this to be more of a problem.

Buuuut, I want so much to like it that I keep playing it despite all the problems... :(

BTW, what's this about DLC being free, or some weapons I see in the game that say that can be unlocked in battlefield.com/badcompany. I went there but can't find anything.

There was some free weapons early on but I think they posted a code online that just unlocks the bonus ones. You will still have to rank up and get the other weapons.

The lag can be very annoying but once you get the perfect game, its a damn fun game. :lol

DLC being free is just a couple more maps and a new game mode (Conquest).

About the weapons, there are some weapons you have to unlock, and a long time ago, you could get 5 extra weapons by finding the passwords on the site. Here they are:

Unlock Find All Five Kits

Code:
Go to the UNLOCK page in the menu and input the following:
Password Effect
your3mynextt4rget	Unlock QBU88 Recon Kit
try4ndrunf0rcov3r	Unlock the M60 Support Kit
cov3r1ngthecorn3r	Unlock the Uzi Special Ops Kit
aw3somef1rep0wer	Unlocks USAS12 for use in multiplayer.

Since there's only 4 there, you have to get the other one by doing something on this list. I'm not going to see which one is missing, since i already went to gamefaqs for you:

Assault Rifle - Register your old Battlefield games at http://www.veteran.battlefield.com/
Light Machine Gun - Sign up for the newsletter at http://www.findallfive.com/
Semi-Automatic Shotgun - After playing an Online game login and check your stats at http://www.findallfive.com/
Sniper Rifle - Pre-Order the game from a participating retailer before June 23rd, 2008.
Uzi - Play the "Battlefield: Bad Company Demo" and get to rank 4. (2300 EXP required to reach rank 4.)

The assault rifle is missing, so you're going to have to enter a license key or something.

The fix for the tearing is playing the ps3 version, it still tears like mofo, but it's not nearly as bad as what I saw during the 360 beta.

Multiplayer is excellent, but the singleplayer is horrible. Really need to go through it for those damn achievements though... ugh.

Looking forward to 1943 / BC2 :D

Then that's it. I just hope whoever cares enough to do this doesn't have Battlefield 2, because Battlefield 2 registration on the http://veteran.battlefield.com simply doesn't work.

I've had a chat with EA support and it just doesn't work.

Can I just come in quickly and say that the feeling of the guns combined with the BEYOND UNREAL quality of the sound effects makes this game a thrill to play.

I just ordered the PS3 version off of Amazon. I tried finding it in stores but no dice (no pun intended). So when it finally gets here, there'll be an immediate update right? For Trophies and for a new mode/map? I played the hell out of the demo so I decided to just get the full game. :D

This is overblown. The cutscenes have it but it NEVER intrudes on game play. This is one of the more exaggerated technical flaws this round of hardware.

You can't go wrong. Free map/s and trophy patch. It still has a nice following.

I've been playing a lot online lately.

It seems the lag problems I had first where isolate.

I'm enjoyin it pretty much so far, even though I still think the controls could be a little bit more responsive (it takes forever since I press Y to take out the knife until it actually takes out the knife, for example).

The SP campaing is pretty boring.

play demo and use one of the high damage shotguns, they're 1 shot kills with good aim, or play recon and snipe people...

a lot of people have had success by renting and then playing 1 game online of battlefield 2: modern combat on 360.

I am LTTP on this too, but I've been playing it lately. I really love it as well. The "destruction" is all extremely pre-fabricated, but as it works as far as mechanics go it's all sound... removing cover/exposing enemies is an inherently enjoyable gameplay function. Online is rad and I will be buying Bad Company 2 day one due to it.

Amir0x said:

It is indeed pre-fabricated, but since there is so many red barrels, fuel tanks, etc., I think it feels like it's really integrated into the game.

i think Amir0x is referring to the way that things bow up. the 'pieces' that get blown apart are pre-set, so if you know where to shoot and how destructive a weapon is, you can make the same type of hole every time.

Yeah i just beat this game as well. I liked it a lot and will probably keep it (from gamefly.)

The sound was great and I always thought people were exaggerating about the explosive barrels/boxes... goddamn they are everywhere :lol

I also enjoyed the destructibility of the environment. After clearing out a town it reminded me a lot of a Company of Heroes map after a prolonged match.

One thing I loved was the detail on the vehicles. Each of them respond to the environment.

The sound though...damn the sound. The best thing is that any gunfire sound or explosions is actually happening, not fabricated to fill the background.

I never got a chance to really test the meat of the multiplayer in Bad Company, but I loved the SP campaign. Yes, it wasn't the 'tightest' narrative experience, but that's to be expected given the 'open world' nature of the game. It made up for it with a great collection of weapons, fun vehicles, great gunplay, and plenty of freedom. All it's missing is co-op in the campaign.

I know co-op is a bit of a buzz word right now and it's being shoehorned into games where it doesn't fit, but I think BF:BC is a perfect candidate for it. The wide open maps where you can approach from any side (and have plenty of room to play with), coupled with vehicles and destructible environments just seem to beg for co-op. Get four guys together who can co-ordinate themselves reasonably well and you potentially have a totally new gaming experience.

Hopefully BF:BC2 features it anyway.

Really loved the SP in this game. The story may not be much but the characters are funny and likable. The open environments were all very well done too. Unlike many I didn't really love the audio (sounded too boomy I thought) but I can see why some like it.

I am looking forward to the sequel.

EDIT: The destruction isn't all I hoped it would be(Its not all that precise) but it still fits very well into the game. I used it all the time.

Those are pretty much my thoughts as well. I liked the atmosphere of the game (e.g. the tone of the writing, the music in the jeeps, etc.) as a whole.

I think destructible environments are generally over-hyped as far as features go, but it was definitely useful and fun in BF:BC. I'd often pick an assault rifle with grenade launcher in preference to an LMG, simply because grenades + destructible environments = more fun. I don't think I ever used a door in this game! :D

I enjoyed the single player but was really disappointed with the script and story. Voice acting and the characters are very well done but the commercials for the game shows the huge potential for the story if only they had spent some time on it or hired third party assistance.

I look forward to the day when story telling is as big of a feature in games as having inverted sticks.

Exactly. This is why I can't wait for the new Red Faction game... the destruction in that game looks truly fluid. If Battlefield Bad Company 2 could integrate a slightly more random destruction system (and I mean 'random' in the observatory sense... it'd all be based on a set of physical rules, obviously), I think it'd be so rad.

Speaking of detail in the vehicles. Here's something I found neat (because I work around Humvees a lot), but if you scope the driver side of it you'll notice a whole bunch of tags and warning signs on the dash area. I shit you not but the placement of the tags and warning signs is exactly as it appears in real life. I mean even the gauge windows were right, but the tags blew me away the most... who would count the tags? But here they are, exactly the right amount of tags in exactly the right specific places that I've masked in the past for paint :lol

Having a lot of fun with the single player campaign. There's some funny lines in this game! I don't know how sensitive to spoilers people might be so I'll tag it but
the part where the guys were being arrested/taken away, Haggard kept going on about how the food in prison isn't that bad and Sweetwater said "I'm sure the food is good, it's the soap I'm worried about!
:lol

I also jumped into some multiplayer and it's a lot of fun. I have no headset but I knew what had to be done due to playing the demo. Do the weapons you find in the single player get unlocked for multiplayer? Or do you unlock as you rank up online? Not too sure... But I'm really digging the game.

Graphics are very nice and the sound is something else! I'm only playing on a Logitech 2.1 system but man, the sound is pretty cool. I'm even more anxious for part two now...

I really enjoyed the humor in the single player, with those 2 ...I can also imagine that this shit can happen. it is a funny take on the story..

multiplayer is still busy, almost the highrest rank now. and your rank is only progress in a ranked online match.

I play it on 360.

I still can't believe they never fixed the mics on the PS3 ......
It was fixed on my end. Prior to the last patch it cut off all the time and I couldn't communicate. I could hear people but they couldn't hear me. Now it's all good.

And the game is fun. For 20 dollars, it's worth it.

i played the MP beta of that game, and the physics were pretty awesome, but i really do like the bad company style too, i know exactly what will happen when i shoot a spot on a building, and can repeat the same exact thing the next time.

wow

I admitted I double-dipped (first the PS3 version, then much later the X360). And this game, was one of the biggest reasons I got a PS3. Not MGS4, not Uncharted, not anything else... but THIS! It certainly sounds silly, but I fell in love with the destruction and BFBC spoilt the MP experience for other games. Because now, its destruction or nothing.
In both I found the SP a snoze fest, but the MP is where it's all at! Heck I didn't complete the SP for both versions! Just jumped straight into MP for the X360 when I came around to it.

Love the destruction and different strategies, love the audio effects. Hate the lack of proper mics and squad controls. Wished they fixed it... would have really been MP GOTY IMHO.

Can't wait for BFBC2 and Red Faction :)

Yeah the destruction is godly blasting through a wall and just running through it never gets old. I love the tactical edge that comes into it, like the sniper making sure he has his sensors around him before he takes up position lest he get surprised by someone sneaking up and knifing him and taking his pride and dogtags. :lol

This is what i imagined would be pushed in the 'HD' age massive battlefields with lots and lots of destruction that allows you to play how you want without the feeling of hemming you in .
I love how the levels look totally fucked up at the end of a match.

I'm now 100% buying the upcoming sequel on day 1.

Yep, I love going all Rambo blasting a hole in the wall and then obliterating everyone who's inside :lol

I really hope that the sequel, besides a better team mates AI, will also boosts some basic imput commands for them. 4 available commands controlled via D-Pad directions will suffice, imo.

For DICE: double the salaries of your sound engineers. They are simply the best. They produced the best sound effects this generation so far.

I just picked this up on the weekend for 20bucks.
Great fun playing conquest again. Its been to long since i played BF on the pc.

I think what really hurt this game was shipping with no conquest mode.
It is the Battlefield game mode, to ship with out it was the reason i didn't buy it originally. Then i heard they were adding it but it would only have 4maps.

Again it wasn't enough. Now it has 8 maps for each game mode..its what should have happened from the beginning.

I hope they don't do this again with BF:BC2 and make sure the game modes and maps are there from the get go.

Why don't you rebuy it? You can pick it up for pretty much nothing now. When i brought the game a few months ago it was £12, it must be much lower now.

I probably will. I just looked it up, it's about $20 used.

singleplayer had some of the worst AI design for an open shooter. the enemy knows where you're at no matter where you are on the map. just really stupid, although other than that the game was fairly entertaining and the mp was fun for a bit.

is there a way to leave a squad that it randomly assigns you to?
I hate when i get a squad leader thats sitting as far away from anything as he can and snipes..makes for a useless spawn situation since I've been playing support.

I got this game today since it was kinda cheap and so far -- about two-three hours in -- I'm really liking it. People complain about the AI and so, but it hasn't bothered me that much at all. Really, I've been less annoyed by the AI in Bad Company than a bunch of other new "better" games. It's loud, there's a shitload of explosions and things break. It also looks very good.

nope, you can't leave the squad.

there is no 'squad leader' btw, it just spawns you to whoever is closest to the objective, or whoever is alive if everone else isn't.
