LTTP: Battlefield Bad Company

I'm actually going to miss the grain filter because I think it added a real sense of atmosphere and immersion.

Try wearing a pair of glasses with a bunch of sand stuck to them while you walk around in real life. See if it makes it more "immersive" there too :lol It might make things more immersive in an in-game sandstorm, but in any other scenario it's just dumb.

The screenshots before BFBC came out were incredible, and yet that grain filter made it all look low res, muddy and blurry.

Without it BFBC2 should look just incredible.

is the multiplayer like 1943?

There's a different mode, but also the maps are much larger. Of course, there's also a lot more options in terms of weapon selection, loadout, classes, etc.

I would say 1943 is the "essence" of Battlefield while Bad Company tries to replicate the full experience.

So, how are you supposed to get "tracer assists"? I need two of them in a round for the award, and I tracer a dude and then he gets killed a short bit later and I don't get the assist bonus. What the hell? I've had "tracer assist kill" pop up once before, but I can't get them to be consistant enough to kill my KDR. >_<

When you say you put a tracer on someone, do you mean someone in a vehicle, or on foot. You only get points if it's a vehicle. In fact the tracer does nothing except flash annoyingly if it isn't attached to a vehicle.

Other than the maps that are poorly designed I'm starting to love Gold Rush. The game really starts flowing once you accept the fact that you're going to have to start switching classes to suit the rapidly changing defensive points.

For example on a flatter terrain with tons of houses and cover I might switch over to Specialist and take my time to flank and score a couple of easy close kills with an XM8C and set a charge. Place a couple of C4 on the ground and just bail instead of worrying about single handedly defending the objective. Take some time to wait a good 15 seconds depending on how hot I think the area is and set the charge off. Usually I catch a guy trying to defuse the charge and sometimes you can bag a few.

Then once they are forced to defend another spot the environment might be a little different. Something like charging up a hill against some high rising homes with a ton of windows and high ground for snipers and assault guys to pick us off. I might die charging and switch over to snipe, taking my time to pick off some of the long ranging guys who are just hoping to nail some guys running up.

I'm a pretty heavy specialist , recon, and assault user but I really am not comfortable with the other classes. I've gotten some great strings together with the demo class but the rocket launchers weakness and ridiculous reloading time tends to annoy me more often than not. I haven't used support enough to really knock it but I think my problem is that I can't find a great gun. I always seem to get picked off from range by these guys but I was struggling to kill targets with the most accurate weapon when I gave it a go yesterday. Healing others and and summong air strikes are appealing but I haven't found my groove with the class yet.

Either way I'm much more excited about BC2 now that I've come to accept gold rush.

About guns, as far as damage is concerned:
Assault - M16
Demo - NS2000
Recon - M95 (SVU is for chumps!)
Spec - UMP
Support - M60 ( use the find all five code [try4ndrunf0rcov3r])

With the way the hit detection is in this game I can't imagine ever using the M95. Nailing a guy only for him to bail and have to take a year to put another round in the chamber then repeating the process :\.

VSS.

I quite like the SVU if I'm trying to sneak behind the opposition's base. Since it's silenced it doesn't give away your position to anyone who's bothering to listen. If you can consistently get kills with the M95 then I'll gladly bow down to your sniping skills. The only time I take it is if I'll be shooting from a long distance back, but I hate doing that.

Explains it. I've been tagging the vehicles and they bail, so I tag the dudes along the way. :lol

Unless the dude is full health, the M95 is generally a OHKO anywhere on the body (but you should be going for the head anyway).

The slow reload time is the counter-balance from it's godly damage output.

the M95 will kill with a center mass shot from pretty far, and even if it doesn't, you can switch to the handgun and fire a few rounds to finish the job. or you can aim for the head... in fact, the M24/SV98/GOL are all pretty powerful too, but they're much more likely to leave someone with 10% on a center mass than outright killing.

I love this game despite it having two really glaring knocks for me. One being the most fucked up FOV I've ever seen in a supposedly native widescreen FPS. The other being the muddiest weapon models this side of MOH: Airborn.

BC2 needs to be in cinemascope.

How did you get all those weapons? I can't seem to find the non "locked" weapons for the classes (that are above the Rank 25/Gold edition weapons) in my load outs.

do you think the FOV is worse than BioShock?

bah, what am i saying, the FOV does indeed suck a bit.

The only time the FOV is a terrible problem for me is being a sniper on that one Gold Rush map with the fog/early morning bridges map. (I'm forgetting the name off the top of my head). You zoom it and... see nothing but fog. It's hard as hell to make people out in that.

the first 3 weapons are the default weapons depending on what team you're on (USA/RUS/MEC)

the next 3 can be unlocked with unlock credits

the next gets unlocked right away if you have the GOLD edition or when you hit rank 25 with the regular edition

the final one gets unlocked via the findallfive promotion

Demo - USAS-12 - aw3somef1rep0wer
Recon - QBU88 - your3mynextt4rget
Special Ops Kit - UZI - cov3r1ngthecorn3r
Support Kit - M60 - try4ndrunf0rcov3r

the only way to get the Assault's F2000 is to have Battlefield Veteran status http://veteran.battlefield.com/

Ah, that explains it. I barely use the starting weapons, I just use the find all five or unlocked ones.

Heh, got lucky with the tracer placement award. Got it tagged just as this one tank with two people in it was getting blown to hell. :D

Now I just need to figure out how to get 10 kills with explosives in a round quickly to get all three specialist patches in a row. :lol

Bought this game a few months a for pretty cheap, put it right into the back of my backlog and never played it since I wasn't really expecting much.
Put it in for the first time today, holy shit. The cinematic intro alone blew me away. Wasn't expecting production values like that.

Jumped right into multiplayer, once again, holy shit. Not a big fan of multiplayer in general but this just feels so right. The sound is amazing, the weapons feel good, the maps are pretty cool from what I played. Even though I wasn't amazing at it, the game somehow doesn't make you feel that you suck, even if you do.

Why didn't I play this sooner? I just hope the SP will blow me away as well! I was planning on just plowing through the SP and getting a few trophies, but I'll definitely stick around for a few hours of MP. Extremely positive surprise for me!

What's the default FOV in PC shooters, 90? Would be great if there was adjustable FOV in console shooters.

I think after all the time playing 1943, I wanna jump into some Gold Rush tonight.

QBU-88 all the way. I hate how the VSS isn't accurate on subsequent shots (though it makes that up with its firing rate.

Anyone can recommend good weapons for assault and support?

Also, how do you get Savior points?

After getting 100% on 1943, I finally returned to this game, only to get my ass whooped multiple times. Still, it's an outstanding game, and probably the best multiplayer experience of this generation.

With that said I ask: god, oh god, who's the baboon who designed the medals and awards? Get him out in the town square, and prepare tar, feathers, and good boots to kick his ass so that he understands what NOT to do in the sequel.

I also picked this game up recently after loving 1943. Seems cool so far. Like someone else said, my main complaint is the speed at which you move. And holding the left stick clicked in to run is the worst thing ever. I can't find a toggle option for something like "click once to go into run mode" or something. Do I really have to hold it down? Seriously? Worst idea ever.

Yup

I could never get into this as much as I could get into Modern Combat.

Really wanted transport helicopters. If the trailer for BC2 is anything to go by they thankfully will be back.

I like the AN94 the most, but it burn through ammo pretty fast so you could also go with the xm8. I don't really use the M16 much, because it's only powerfull at long range.

And the MG36 is probably the only good support weapon, since it's much more accurate than the other ones.

Kill someone who is damaging a teammate.

I much prefer the high (*) damage weapons: M16 and M60.

(*)
They're still pea shooters.

yeah, this.

i use

Asst: M16
Demo: NS2000/SPAS12
Recon: M95/M24/SV98/GOL (not only are they more powerful, their zoom level is also better than the other sniper rifles)
Spec: UMP
Supp: M60

OH MY GOD! *andyroddickno.gif*

16 headshots in a round. FOUR AWAY BUT MY ATTACKING TEAMMATES HAD TO BE DUMBASSES AND DIE INSTEAD OF STAYING PUT AND LETTING ME SNIPE FOOLS.

AHHHHHHHHHHH. SO CLOSE TO THAT 20 HEADSHOTS IN A ROUND. GODDAMN IT. FUCK YOU DICE!

I'm so annoyed I could cry right now.

:lol

This is when most people would just give up and play for "fun" or something. ;)
At least it's not like BF2 where if you didn't achieve certain goals before you ranked up, you were screwed forever.

I remember suiciding so much just so I wouldn't end up in the NCO path... god.

I had a good spot on that one short-near-the-gold map, too! (No, not the oil field, that forest map, I'm forgetting the name right now) where I could snipe the turret from between two rocks near the bridge. Snipe the high-point (that you have to climb a ladder onto) to counter-snipe snipers. Snipe the dudes rocketing the tanks my teammates were in. It's near the second points' "Gold Point 1." It was awesome and how I made most of my M92 headshots. I was feeling like god until they killed that point and I had to get up on that high-end and try to snipe people that were rushing my teammates. I hate that sniper bullet travel lag at times, because I know I lead my shot, but I was either early/late and missed their head. And my teammates were asses and dying too quick for me to find people standing still.

AHHHH. It's so annoying. If I got that one out of the way the other awards (besides like "Stay Dry" would be a cake walk!) :lol

I am getting better with finding snipe-spots where people can't really tell and the draw distance isn't a hinderance. I'm also getting pretty good at aiming quickly to headshot a dude if I notice them unscoped. So that's at least a bonus. I just need a stupid team that won't die and will wait for me to get my 20 headshots. :lol

Bad Company provided some of the best online experiences I've ever had.. mostly because like all my friends on Xbox Live played it together with me. :D

I go back to it here and there and play a couple of matches and I always have a good time.

But now me and my friends are really into Battlefield 1943, so that has had us occupied.

Well, good luck with your endeavors!
I gave up at about 75%... the rest of the badges and wildcards just seemed too insane to do without wanting to break something. :lol

Yeah, I know. I wasn't keeping track of the headshots/kills. But the "end of round" score said 16/0, so I was so fucking pissed at myself for not getting the four more kills. :lol Was a blast of a round though. Huge ego boost to headshot people pretty consistantly. :lol

all the trophies are doable, i'm only missing clear skies on 360 and clear skies, combat aviator and naval warfare on ps3. the rogue patches i'm missing are doable, well, except the gold savior trophies, that stuff is just out of my hands...

the wildcards... seriously, some of the wildcards are total fucking lucksacking.

like i got the strike wildcard on PS3 from a goddamn mortar strike on the 3rd set of crates on Harvest Day. i mean i wasn't trying, it just fucking happened that there were 5 people that died in the strike, and 2 of them spawned in after i already fired.

then for weeks i was like "how the hell could i randomly get strike on ps3 before 360", and then one day, when i fire a rocket at the huge container field on Deconstruction like i ALWAYS DO, i get strike there. i've literally done it 100 times and killed maybe 1 or 2 people, then *bam* strike one day, wtf?

some of the stuff i'd have to do for some of the wildcards just gets in the way of having fun and/or winning.

and 50 savior trophies... ugh...

I still have yet to get savior gold. Avenger I haven't gotten any of the awards from, because they want some bullshit high avenger range, and I can't seem to figure out the window of getting consistant avenger points.

I have to get like... 8 more Squad Medication trophies too, and half the time the people that need healing are in enemy territory so it's fucking useless to run up to their ass and heal them unless I want to die (which I don't).

UGH! Teammates are so frustrating.

seriously, the first time i got a Savior Trophy, i was telling the people i played with, and i even posted it on GAF because it was a total "holy shit" moment.
