LTTP: Bayonetta

Bayonetta's a great game but I'd be lying if I said I didn't get some kind of fatigue when playing it. The game kind of runs out of steam at some point and devolves in to a gauntlet of the same mini-bosses over and over again until you reach that chapter's end boss.
That describes pretty much every Kamiya game.

The game has the best ending EVER. Ever. Or coolest, whatever. :D
So feel-good.

Will replay this on hard next week, although I am heavily out of practice. But it will be a good sendoff of my 360, cause Hell is coming in the week after that.

I guess this is a good a thread as any. is it worth it to double dip and get the 360 version if you already have the PS3 one? are they that different post-install patch?

Yea I am in similar situation I guess.

I bought the PS3 version when I didn't have 360. I played about an hour, the graphics /loading and frames were horrible.

Now I have 360, so I was wondering would it be really worth it to ditch PS3 version and get 360 version? I really can't judge the whole game in first hour, but the PS3 version's visuals were horrible.

Yea the 360 version could run at like 10-15fps (could be more) above ps3, it's not consistently running at 60fps but it's above 30fps unlike the ps3 version which could dive well below 20, if it's not expensive then go for it, the ps3 even if you don't count the slow down, the choppiness is still an absolute eye sore.

all i needed to know. making a trip into town 2moz. thanks.

So an update, I haven't gotten much gaming time lately but this game is seriously clicking with me. I think I'm getting close to the beginning of the end (chapter 11) and it's been hard for me to put this down. The campy-wtf-ness of the whole first hour or so just gives way to awesome.

Breezed through the game in Normal mode, so I tried replaying the game in the hardest difficulty. Now I can't get past the fire and ice dogs, seems like they move too damn fast my reflexes can't keep up. I also find myself using only a set of attacks, but I want to play like that Futurepress trailer video. :( Can it be done without the guide? Where do I start?

The Bayonetta OT has some good general tips.

Huh, you're still not through?
I estimate there are about 3 to 4 hours left to the credits. Looking forward to reading your opinion on the last chapters!

One of the best games this generation, no doubt. I still have to beat Infinite Climax. Will go at it when I'm done with my exams.

One of the best final bosses I've ever played against, too.

I unlocked everything and got the Platinum trophy. Then my PS3 died and I lost my save. And I can't just download a new one from the interwebs. ._.

So after posting in the LTTP: Vanquish thread, I decided to pick up Bayonetta after realizing I had never played it.

I started it yesterday, and then somehow, 3 hours passed without me even noticing it. This is probably the best character action game I've ever played (seriously). I was a huge huge fan of Ninja Gaiden Black, along with Devil May Cry 3, but this just blows those games out of the water.

Everything just flows together; controls and systems are sound, the style is absolutely ridiculous, the enemy designs are bat-shit insane and I think the story is surprisingly enthralling.

Did the game happen to sell enough to warrant a possible sequel?

Game sold over a million I believe, but it's unlikely we'll ever see a sequel. Rumour has it SEGA canned a sequel, especially as they're restructuring to only release games in certain decent-selling franchises now, or some nonsense. Plus they own the IP so P* are outta luck.

Yeah, better start playing the shit out of this game 'cause there won't be a sequel probably. ;)
And believe me there is enough content. I have probably 200hrs playtime now.

So I finally finished it last night.
My god it was one of those rare games that after you see the ending you think, "Ok, now to restart it right now!"

Truth be told this has been the first action game I've played in years. And now I gotta hankering for more, but this was just so damned good I worry that whatever I get next will suck by comparison.

Nothing this gen touches it IMO. The game is just so good to control, and does almost everything perfectly in terms of replaying the game (lots of unlocks, skipping every cutscene, etc.). Be prepared to compare everything from here on out to Bayonetta and watch them fall one by one.

Closest thing we'll get to Bayonetta in terms of a top quality character action game will be Metal Gear Rising. I have complete and utter faith in P* and from what I've seen so far, it looks fantastic. After this however, I fear that's the end of the hardcore action games.

Bayonetta is the greatest action game I've ever played.

I don't know what stage the demo was at (alpha or beta) but the Metal Gear Rising demo I played at E3 was a technical mess. It crashed on me, had lots of slowdown and movement just didn't feel fluid. Keeping my fingers crossed that Platinum will deliver.

All this time, since launch, I had the fucking PS3 version.

Then yesterday I tried it on 360 at a friend's place.

Long story short, I re-bought the game for 360 this morning, NIGHT AND DAY!

It's not as good but Devil May Cry 4 is a great game imo and can be had for cheap.

I'm playing this for the first time at the moment.

Is it generally fine to play, enjoy and accept Bayonetta without giving a shit about anything in the game other than the combat? I love the combat. I really, really fucking love the combat. Everything else? Eh. I'm on Chapter 9 and have no fucking idea what's going on anymore, and have started skipping cut scenes, mostly on the basis that they're non-sensical, often cringeworthy and well, pretty boring, and as a result I'm absolutely lost with what the game is doing in general. But everything between the cut scenes is amazing. Everytime I'm back in the game I've got a huge smile on my face.

Is this pretty routine in terms of how to enjoy Bayonetta? Should I be giving a shit about the story? Am I missing something?

The story blows, but it's still really fascinating especially towards the end, I would suggest watching them if you have the patience, you're not missing anything either by skipping them, it's your call.

It's not as funny and straight forward as something as god hand but they're not too bad, but for Bayo the cutscene to gameplay ratio on normal is absolutely garbage :D, you could be watching like 5minutes of cutscenes when the next verse takes like 50 seconds to go through.

The real Bayonetta starts on the second playthrough, skipping all the cutscenes.

Yeah, I don't think I'd have a problem with the cut scenes if it wasn't for the fact that there seems to be so many of them in parts. This is one of those games where they genuinely seem to interrupt the gameplay, for me.

How different are cutscenes and the gameplay with Jeanne? Never got around to playing as her or the other special characters (and Rodin scares me).

Not at all. Skinswap only.

I was really hoping they would replace the in-game Jeanne character with a Bayonetta model just so the narrative would still make a certain amount of sense.

Jeanne can chain dodges infinitely but can only activate witch time using Bat-Within(which she starts off with). I think her wicked weaves also do more damage than Bayonetta's. King Zero can only take two hits before dying, but is faster and his magic restoration is extremely fast compared to Bayonetta or Jeanne.

Another LTTP thread for a game from PlatinumGames. Their games totally rock. One of the best devs this gen.

Saw it for $5 at Target today.
Shame on you for not buying game of the generation.

I see, thanks. I'm get the itch to restart it! :)

The gameplay in this is absolutely addictive. It has raised the bar for future action games to aspire to.

But it is wrapped up in the worst candy coating I've ever tasted. The story, the cutscenes, the characters are so fucking terrible....never mind how it looks, even on the x360.

I keep wishing for a B2 to build on this because if they fix the "other" stuff, it would be near perfect.

I think they have this weird garrish charm to them. (Especially B)

I finally Platinum'd this yesterday. Fucking witch coffin evading me forever... there was one hidden behind some doors on the plane...

Time to track down those blood tears. God I wish Kamiya had included an adjustable infinite combat mode like one of the DLC Maps is for Batman.

Got a 360 over a month ago and this was one of the games I borrowed from my bro. It's pretty freaking amazing. I like just how smooth the game is. I'm not the best playing these types of games, but this one in particular I just really have a feel for it. I can already tell I'll want to play this multiple times through.

New here, can someone explain what LTTP stands for?

Late to the party. You'll probably also see deviations like Return To the Party (if the OP already played the game but is going back to it) or more specific ones for certain games.

I usually love the boss rush at the end of those games since I know how to beat them a lot faster, and not to mention some of the ones in Bayonetta are mini version of the bosses you fought so they're a lot easier.

So much this.

Today is the first day I've been able to spend a whole day with the game. It's like a totally different title.

I'd recommend anyone with the ps3 version to double dip, even if as a policy u never normally do so. It really is that much better.

I just double-dipped the other day :D

Shame the 360 in the main room is kind of broken atm. Need to move the other 360 I have here someday.

But yeah, based on the first chapter the difference really is night-and-day.

Ideally, every single Alfheim Portal you had ever entered would be selectable from a menu.

With all the hype of Bayonetta 2, I decided to give this game another shot. After trying it on PS3, I decided it was better to wait until I got a 360 so that I play the game the way it was intended.

I just finished Chapter V (The Lost Holy Grounds) and I'm having a very hard time understanding the praise this game has received around here. TBH, I'm not surprised the game sold as poorly as it did. Before, I get lambasted by fans, I just want to say that my intention is to get help understanding the game.

So far, I feel like this game is a button masher that relies on trial and error in the wrong way. In a game like Ninja Gaiden, when I died, I knew it was my fault and that I needed to get better. In Bayonetta, as long as I keep continuing, I feel I can get through every fight by simply dodging at the right moment and tapping on the "Y" button. I don't feel a sense of powering up as a character like I would in other action games.

This is Bayonetta's biggest flaw imo. The character seems to be so powerful and so combat so easy, that buying upgrades really seem meaningless to me. I am enjoying the game, but if I'm this far into it already I feel like there's a mechanic to the game that I'm just not understanding.

So a lot of people have given praise to this games combat system, and I'd like to know, "What am I not understanding?"
