Still stuck on the archers?
Abuse your iframes and roll through the arrow, when you get to melee range they'll pull out their sword, then play it safe and make the knight fall off.

I never had problems with them, IIRC as long as you keep running it's hard for them to hit you.
A good tip is that blocking always pushes you back from the way you're facing, regardless of what direction you were hit from. So if you're having trouble just block the arrows and make sure to face slightly away from the wall, you'll get pushed back into it and won't fall off.
That's the weapon I used for a majority of the game =(
I always cheesed one of the bosses, finally Iron Flesh'd the Four Kings after getting frustrated a few times. I've been meaning to replay it and try a different type of character.
I'm debating getting DS2 or 3 after this one. Why is DS2 so disliked? Is it only because it isn't a tightly made metroidvania? Friend says more builds are viable.
It's quantity over quality. There are a ton of areas in that game, but many of them are quite simplistic and the ways in which they connect don't make physical sense the way Dark Souls' world does. Not everyone agrees about this, but the combat feels different in a bad way, not as tight, responsive, fluid, whatever - pick your word. It stood out to me right away while some people don't think it's there. This is another contentious point, but there are issues with the hitboxes and things killing / grabbing you that shouldn't have. Finally I don't think the quality of the boss fights is as high. It's a good game, just not exceptionally great like the first one.
As for the Anor Londo archers, I think the easiest way to get past them is to parry them. However, if you haven't practiced parrying at all that might be tricky. You can also just get a massive shield, block most of his attacks and wait for him to fall off.

DS1 (and so far 3) feel tough but fair. There were moments in 2 that just felt like straight-up bullshit. I quit playing at a part where you're forced to wade through waist-deep water while enemies cast homing spells at you, you have to carefully avoid other enemies crawling around underwater, and occasionally you come across huge enemies that you have to deal with while being mindful of everything else. It got to the point where it wasn't fun anymore.
Then there's stuff like the bullshit windmill "puzzle" that's completely baffling.
The design just isn't as strong too. A lot of the bosses and enemies are beatable by strafing around them until they whiff an attack, hitting them, and repeating until they're dead. I've been really glad that that doesn't work as well in 3.
Still not a horrible game. My advice would be to play it until you stop having fun, then move on to Bloodborne or 3 instead of beating your head against a wall in 2.
Unlike the big Z you have to advance far into the game to get this weapon and grind for it. Zweihender can be found right at the start. And even if you were good enough to beat the black Knight at the catacombs and lucky enough to get the axe as this one doesn't respawn Zweihender is much easier to ascend thanks to the abundance of titanite shards and the cheap cost of upgrading. It's also more versatile as you can infuse it with pine resin and miracles/spells.
There's just no comparison.
I was lucky enough to get the Black Knight Spear at the start of my first playthrough >
The problem with summoning for boss fights is it perpetuates the notion that Dark Souls is a hard game. Dark Souls is a fair* game. By persevering and beating a boss solo you've learnt how to take on this challenge and are a better player overall. The bosses are designed to be soloable and I honestly believe everyone who summoned could've beaten that boss solo with enough practice. Usually someone will try the same strategy 10 times against a boss, fail then conclude it's impossible. Dark Souls is all about changing your attitude.
That said, trying over and over isn't very fun and at the end of the day that's what your aim should be so if you do summon then that's ok as well. I just think people shouldnt throw in the towel so quickly.
I can't do it. I can't get through these archers. I'm a sword and board magic missile hybrid motherfucker and I just can't. The one on the right just point blank arrows me and I can't even get a sword hit on. I can't soul arrow because the arrows hit me first and kill me (plus the area of lock on is so fucking miniscule compared to these snipers). I can't seem to roll past them to get to wherever. Going for the left archer is suicide since the one on the right gets a direct shot on me.
You can ignore the one on the left once you're at the top, he can't see you as long as you're close to the knight on the right. Once you get close enough, the guy on the right will start using his sword. Either parry him and riposte, or you can block him and it'll push him backwards a bit. After a few blocks (if you have the stamina) he'll push himself off. I'm not sure if you can kick him or not, can't remember.

I can confirm the archer cannot be kicked off the ledge. Gives no fucks. Also can confirm the two demons on either side leading up the first buttress are complete dickless dicks. I can also confirm I'm almost fucking done with this game/series if this is what constitutes as fair challenge.
Between the buffering of a roll prior to me getting hit, then coming out a full second later after I recover causing me to inadvertently roll is bullshit, but paired with wonky geometry of ledges that cause me to roll in place before the lip of the architecture and cause me to slowly slide off to my death is even more bullshit. It's a cacophony of bullshit.

To be fair it's the most bullshit part (by far) of the whole series. I love this series to death but you will never see me defending that part.
How I do it, I sprint the fuck out to the right archer. At that point, the left dude won't be able to shot you. Sometimes I need to roll on my way to the right cause the left had enough time to shoot, I roll through the arrow.
When I'm at the right archer, I face my back against the wall, so no matter what I won't fall, and then kill him (or he falls down when I block, that's depending on your stamina).
Off-topic, but I've had Demon's Souls for a long time, but never got to it. I'm currently playing DS3 and thought about finally getting into DeS sometime after completing DS3 a few times.
How rough will it be going from DS3 to DeS? I've seen many times people rate it the greatest of souls games, but is it just nostalgia? Is it really that great even today?
If it makes you feel better, I spent an hour or 2 on the Archers, but in NG+ I got it on my first try no problem. Once you figure out a method that works for you, you're pretty much set for any subsequent playthroughs.
I thought the trip through to Sen's bonfire was worse though, if only for the fact that when I finally got there, I lit the bonfire, but got invaded before I could rest at it, so when the invader inevitably killed me (because I was at chip damage after going through the area), I had to start all the way back from Andre's bonfire at the entrance.
Edit for Feral Gingy: The servers for DeS were still up when I played it for the first time left year, but it was super inactive. Like I only played multiplayer with my nephew, and we were basically the only people to connect to.
The game itself is fun, but it's a hell of a lot different from the Dark Souls games. I also found it really easy for the most part. I have no idea if that was due to my build, but I didn't really struggle at all, and it was my first Souls game. Basically you have 5 levels with 3 areas in each, and you can tackle them in any order for the most part. You only have one checkpoint at the start of a level, and one at the end, so if you die you have to go through the whole thing again. Thankfully though, the game has a shortcut system like Dark Souls has, but the shortcuts are limited to each area; they don't connect different areas together. So for a lot of the levels by the time you reach the boss fog, you'll have opened up some shortcuts to get back quickly should you die. Which brings me to my main problem with Demon's Souls: most of the trips back to the bosses are really simple, and there's not really anything to kill you on the way there, it just takes ages to run back to the boss.
All in all, the game is good, but I'd personally say it's the worst in the series. That being said, the game does have the best area in the series

I played it for the first time a few weeks ago. Combat is definitely much slower, think Dark Souls 1. It's a great game, but I think a large part of why people rate it so highly is them having played it at release. Now it's a great game but chances are at release it would have been an amazing game for me since I'd not been spoiled by the Dark Souls games.
I found it super easy, probably due to me playing it after Dark SOuls 1.

Not sure about the EU servers, but it's still a great game. You're going to miss a lot of small features that have been added to the Souls games over time though that aren't present in Demon's. No jumping attacks and drop attack for example. Once you get used to those changes though it still has great level design and boss encounters.

It should be a fairly smooth transition if you can deal with its graphics. You'll probably find yourself missing stuff like the plunging attack from time to time, but the differences aren't all that significant.
The feature I find most lacking is the message system which pales in comparison to Dark Souls 3's emergent anal fisting joke technology.
EU servers are still up, but it's extremely unlikely that you'll ever get invaded or find anyone to summon
Fuck Capra demon that piece of shit.
You are nothing without your dogs. You hear me, Capra demon? You are nothing! Meet me alone sometime. I will fuck you up!

Got some help to beat the two bosses in Anor Londo.
Got the teleporting thing. I went to blighttown again to get some green titanite - wasn't able to teleport so I went to kindle a bonfire down there but it said I needed a secret rite or some shit to kindle more bonfires. What does that mean?

I remember getting the axe as a lucky drop and because of the awesome basic moveset it had I stuck with it (this is when the game first came out), I lost count of the amount of people that invaded me and got absolutely demolished by this thing. I use it for months without a single defeat online then one day some cheap ass cleric with this zero penalty force blast thing just spammed it like 8 times in a row and managed to kill me.
Not just for flasks, but the act of kindling a bonfire prevented me and said I needed a rite. I assume that allows for lore teleport locations of bonfires too? Since that's what I was wanting to do

I fired up DS1 this week as a way to try and get back into the series without dropping 60 bucks on DS3 and I just got to the Capra Demon last night. Walked in, died in like 4 seconds and went "whelp, time to call it a night."

This thread seems to have died out, but I didn't want to start my own LTTP thread, so I'll just say that in the last week I cleared Capra Demon, conquered Blighttown, and ended up having a lot more trouble with the bat wing demons in AL than I ever did with the archers. It was nerve wracking but I actually got through the archers on my first go, so I was pretty pleased with myself!
Then I got to O&S and holy shit what a brick wall of difficulty. I've been playing a few hours each weeknight and spent all night on monday and tuesday as well as a few runs on sunday trying to beat these fucks. All the karma I lost getting past the archers with no problem I made up for in spades on that fight. Used humanity and went in with Solaire...died anyway. Went in naked for maximum iframe rolling...died anyway. I got the parry timing on those two silver knights on the path back to the boss room down to a science, and only bothered with the sentinels and the archer when I was chancing a summon because I was starting to run out of humanity.
I was really ready to give up, and just say fuck it. I gave it one last go last night at like 11pm, I summoned Solaire and went in. First I was going to try and take down Ornstein, but he went to Solaire and I stuck on Smough. Then I noticed that Solaire was actually out damaging me, and O was almost dead, so I switched over and helped him finish that bastard off. Then Super Smough killed Solaire in like 3 hits, but that whole time I wailed on him with my +9 Claymore. I got him down probably just under 2/3rds health when Solaire finally dropped. I got lucky. I new I had my shot, I just had to play it cool, not get too greedy, and get my hits in when I could. I kept him on the other side of a pillar so I wouldn't get fucked by his charge attack, and ran in for a quick slice before I rolled away. He jumped up for a smash, and then I went in for the kill, dropped him...and I realized my hands were shaking.
I'm a fucking believer. This game, man. This damn game.
