LTTP: F-Zero GX

Never played it. I heard it was impossibly difficult and just passed. Sounds like I missed out on a treat.

But in that gen, GT3 had my soul. No other racing game mattered.

This game is hard as balls but it's so awesome. I was so glad I found a used copy to keep in my collection.

Story mode is unfairly difficult but the meat of the game is the grand prix cups which should be quite playable for any gamer on easy or medium difficulty.

I just get hype listening to that start-up music when they show the stage.

lol, you too? I NEVER skip the course intros

One of those timeless gems, that set a bar so high I doubt it will ever be topped.

The gameplay bar, sure, but I think they can easily make a better product by copying/pasting the GX gameplay and adding an assload of new features (online, death race, track editor, file sharing, etc...).

I'm up to chapter 7 in the story and so far it has been very challenging without feeling cheap.

That's about to change. FUCK CHAPTER 7. After a FUCKING MONTH of trying that every day after school in Junior High, I just stopped playing the game.

I'm not the only one. here's this someone famous (reposted often) picture detailing the horseshit story mission. (well, can't find the image, but here's the text. [SA filter in full effect lol])
Dear Nintendo:
YOUR COCKSUCKING PRODUCT HAS REDUCED ME TO A GIBBERING MAN-APE WHOSE ONLY RESORT TO DEALING WITH THE ALMIGHTY loving GRIEF IT'S BESTOWED UPON ME IS TO SCREAM AND HURT MYSELF.

Seriously, I am jumping up and down and throwing my poo poo in handfuls at the loving television in some impotent primal effort to get the thing to work. I have been sitting here trying to enjoy your product - YOUR PRODUCT, YOUR GAME, YOUR CONTRACT BETWEEN DEVELOPER AND CONSUMER THAT THE CONSUMER WILL ENJOY YOUR PRODUCT - but instead the drat thing's been crawling out of the console and taking warm shits in my gaping mouth. Swear to god, you should have just added a little door to the console through which a hand pops out and flips me off, because I am insulted that your QA or testers or whatever brainless shitstove three genes short of a monkey FAGNUT signs your games through thought that a person with more than a single loving digit IQ could enjoy Story Mode Chapter 7. INSULTED.

WORK WITH ME HERE: The goal's simple enough! Come in first! Hey, that's fine, it's just like playing the grand loving prix; not a problem! Only deal is your cross-eyed team of tongue-slapping wunderkind decided to give the game every single loving advantage possible TO THE GAME rather than me.

How in the gently caress does Black Shadow - whose car is the heaviest and lamest piece of poo poo next to the Crazy Bear - suddenly become SO loving GOOD that he can stay in first without using a drop of boost? Huh!? Why!? You never see this shithead anywhere near the top loving 20 in a normal race. BUT HO HO HO THIS TIME HE'S MEGA-COCK, THE FASTEST enjoyable human being IN THE WORLD. 1.21 GIGAWATTS MARTY, LET'S GO BACK TO THE loving FUTURE.

But it's not just Black Shadow with the magical powers, it's the entire loving lineup of racers! THEY'RE ALL FASTER THAN YOU. AND DON'T REQUIRE ANY BOOST.

But but but I of course, am still driving some piece of poo poo hamster-powered jalopy who guzzles it's entire energy bar in no less than four loving boosts! Add to this the entire course just got shitted on by some retarded space tiki volacano god and you've got a course full of hazards that'll drain at least 1/4 of your energy bar JUST BECAUSE IT CAN. WHOOPIE.

HURRR, you say. THAT'S JUST THE CHALLENGE. IT'S NOT SUPPOSED TO BE EASY. Well gently caress that noise, you lopsided frankenfaced fuckfurter.

Tell me, please, why does the GAME have to win? Huh? What happens when the game wins and I lose? Is there some huge loving kegger waiting for it when it gets done? Is there money involved? Or perhaps the motives are more sinister. Maybe the game's family is being held hostage by another game and that game has it's cock in F-Zero's wife's mouth and he's holding a cell phone up to her and F-Zero can hear her pained moans and cries for help and the rear end in a top hat game then says, "You beat that cock-sucking human, or I'll blow her brains out." I COULD UNDERSTAND THAT. I CAN BE SYMPATHETIC.

It's not any fun if I can't win, you faggots. I want to move on. I want to unlock whatever piece of poo poo clown car you have hidden away from me so I can start racing and get pissed off with that too. When your game prevents me from fully enjoying the product I have bought you have failed in your loving mission to deliver a game. You lose! You break the contract! You contract the gay and loving DIE DIE DIE.

e: beaten like a dead horse.

Best racing game ever made. True story.

Game kicking your ass? Get better.

This is exactly why I love this game.

Edit: What the hell at that rage post, more reasons this game is great. It shows people for what they truly are when pushed to their limits :lol

This and F-Zero X are easily the two best racing games ever made. The gameplay is perfect and very deep. Almost too deep and complex if you really want to learn all those tricks. I played this game's time trial mode competitive for about two years and still play sometimes.

I imagine these days Nintendo might make another F-Zero that's around the same difficulty, but then add some sort of Super Guide type system that tempts you with assistance after a certain amount of failure.

I just always think it's funny how people dig into the story mode to find that it's impossibly difficult, and stop playing the game. The Grand Prix is so amazing, but so many people I know simply overlooked it because they were trying too hard to beat the ridiculously challenging story mode. The story mode should have been a side mode, something off to the side, while the grand prix should have been more prominently featured.

The Best Thing in this Game there is more than 40 ending for all character .

Also the gameplay very very advanced & the story WOW.

I love this game so much and i want it for 3ds or Wii U as soon as possible.

I kinda doubt it...

I think the reason F-zero skipped the Wii gen was because of Nintendo's new philosophy for appealing to all gamers, is that the difficulty of some games were peeled back so everybody can play them

What's insane to me about F-Zero GX is that they buried a ridiculous, fully-featured 40+ song soundtrack in the CHARACTER BIOS SECTION OF THE GAME. Seriously. Every character has a complete, and often, completely awesome song that only plays while viewing their little one-page rotate-their-model-around static screen.

Best racer ever made, by the way. 100%'ed, and along with full-chaining the first three levels of Ikaruga, among my finest gaming achievements.

I remember wanting this game so bad after playing it at a friends house.

But like everyone said, this game is basically F-Zero X but without the Death Race and the track generator, which is a shame since some of the tracks that the X Cup came up with were pretty crazy... I remember realizing that the tracks were random when i first started the cup and saw a track in the shape of a hand, then telling everyone that i unlocked a cool track just to see a diferent set of tracks, leaving me with a twilight zone feeling.

Unless you have the source code, you can't just "copy/paste" anything from it.

By far the best racing game I've ever played. There is no comparison. When you got good at this game, you felt like a goddamn racing god.

Oh, I forgot about the Machine creator as well. I loved messing around with all the different parts, but I wish there was a test track to use them on immediately instead of going to practice mode or something.

Also I hated unlocking the parts in Story mode but eh.

That's not entirely true. You hear a sample during each character's ending movie too.

I don't see how either was more "prominently featured" than the other, Story is just the most talked about feature since it's one of things that makes the game so interesting and unique.

I dunno, I guess depending on what kind of person you are, your eyes would either first start at the top-left, or focus in on Story in the center. But still it's just 9 chapters, many of which aren't really a race, compared to the GP's total of 20 tracks. I spend plenty of time on GP to gather up tickets, parts, unlocking all the profiles, maybe even beating it three times with some characters to see each of their interview responses. You can't really hone your skills too much without GP, and then you can put them to the ultimate test in Story, so they go hand in hand for me.

There's also all the original music in the cutscenes for story mode. After doing a search, turns out these tracks were never released.

I think i'm going to try 100% this.

Loved this game so, so much. I played F-Zero from the Super Famifom launch in 1990. I played the hell out of F-Zero, F-Zero X and F-Zero Maximum Velocity. Loved them.

But GX was just next level. The graphics were so good that it beat anything in the arcades at that time (2003). Soundtrack, difficulty, character and charm, atmosphere. All amazing.

Love it so much that I wanna really and actually buy one of these:

This thread is making me want to boot this up again, but shit that game was hard.

Allow me to recite a rant that encapsulates my feelings on the game from my good friend, Anonymous:

Haha oh man, what a read. I know that feeling so fucking hard, especially during times when story mode starts becoming cheap as shit.

And how do you unlock the AX tracks anyways?

Chapter 5 + 7 VH put me through a week of agony, pain, suffering, and desparation. Was pure hell to get those completed.

Also got try out F-zero AX at the time with the full rotating cockpit. Was a blast to play.

Definitely the best racing game ever made. The story mode was infuriating and I never quite finished it but everything else was just perfect. I hope one day Nintendo fight the right team to make a follow-up.

You'd might as well go all the way.

It moves and rattles, I want to experience that intensity in my life.

They could just port it and add online, although i wonder how many players would this work. i doubht 30 players online would be feasible...

The soundtrack in GX was a gigantic disappointment to me. Not because it was bad (quite the opposite), but because the soundtrack of X was just so gdlk. The tame techno tunes of GX just can't compare to stuff like this.

I never played X and loved GX and that track would get the game to a whole new level.
Is every song in Xs Soundtrack this good? The I'll consider buying it on the VC.

Oh man this game is so incredible, easily my most played GameCube game next to Super Smash Bros. and it still rocks today. It hasn't aged one bit. I doubt that Nintendo could ever create an F-Zero game as good as this one, let alone try it. I'm sure Monster Games or someone else is put on the job but this magic combination of Nintendo polish, along with Sega arcade goodness will never resurface.

:(

I have some great memories playing four player in my first year of uni, until crazy-o-clock in the morning. The sense of speed was insane. My friends and I clocked so many hours on GX and Burnout 2. I remember going back to Burnout 2 after ages playing GX, and found Burnout 2 feel so slow that I found it easier!

It was an amazing game. Fun, fast, beautiful, it had everything.

I still remember the day I completed all the cups on Master. Was so fucking proud of myself.

Absolutely the best racing game ever. I'm so sad there was no proper sequel ever released. I even bought Climax from Japan because I adore GX and X so much. So much. Sadly there really is no game even trying to beat GX, Wipeout plays like a sluggish slow students game and what other games in that subgenre are there, anyway? Amusement Vision was such an awsome team, pared with Nintendo's quality control it's no suprise one of the best games ever came out of this.

Could never beat that race where you have to catch up with the racer that is about to blow up / or has a bomb on board.

So hard :(

Never boost and crash into a wall, not fun :P (well yes its fun! :D)

Best racing game ever... even if i could still kill for the Fat Shark...

Beating Chapter 4 on very hard? It can be brutal if you don't know the tricks, but it's definitely not one of the hardest. You just have to drive really aggressively, you'll often have to kill just about all the other cars in order to get them to stop hassling you and to fill up your boost meter. And know that it's basically impossible to catch up to Chain until the very last stretch of track.

this has been sitting on my shelf with maybe 1 other Gamecube game, I just need to get around to buying a GC controller so can actually play it on Wii since I've no GC :(
