LTTP: inFamous: Second Son (I.....cant...go...on)

How exactly is the hype of the beast lost? I still find it incredible you even fight the beast.
I 100% expected the Bertrand fight to be the end. When he went full ugly ass monster mode I was like ok final boss guess the beast is Infamous 3, but nope.
tagged on the off chance someone hasn't played it. Still just as good of a story imo 4 years later and one of the best for not dragging the plot out even though they really could've.
The beast felt like a really terrible fight, honestly none of the boss fights compared to the one's from the first game. IIRC we barely fought any bosses that were of equal size to us in 2. This was a huge flaw imo. Fighting Kessler or Sasha(tar lady from infamous 1) felt like challenges whereas fighting the big bug and the beast felt extremely lame and easy. I wanted the beast to be a huge challenge, something that took focus to beat. Instead it just went by and the beast went down like a punk.

Much larger team yes.

Super late reply but from what I found I:SS started development in 2010 whereas WD started development in 2009

first infamous will always be the best infamous.
In terms of story and bosses I totally agree. But everything else I have to give to Infamous 2

First Light was more fun than the main game.

I liked Delsin (on the good path) because he was a foil to his brother Reggie. Reggie/Delsin functioned as two sides of the same coin, and watching them interact was my favorite part of the game's plot. He was a much better lead than the super generic Cole, anyway.

The evil path was super forced and didn't fit him at all, however. Cole, at the least, seemed to be able to swing either way naturally.

The Infamous series is not going to age well. It makes me think of Arrow on The CW. Competent, but basically derivative.
Agree. It's a mediocre, shell of a game. I guess a 10 year old might like it but it's so unimaginative and so boring I really don't know how any adult can play this without considering it a waste of time. Harsh, but my honest opinion.

Yup, this is the impression I got from the game. The main character looks like an awful generic hipster and the gameplay looked dull as heck. I found the Sly Cooper series also lacking in the fun gameplay department so I think it's a studio problem, Sucker Punch just aren't very good.
Delsin isn't generic. I don't like him as a character, because the story doesn't give any good reason to, but he's not generic. That's probably the best thing I have to say about him, he isn't like the vast majority of AAA action game protagonists. Troy Baker's performance is solid, as well.

Honest question, have you actually played the game? Your opinion is certainly something. How could an adult possibly enjoy a game where you play as a guy with awesome and ridiculous super powers? It surely boggles the mind...

Infamous is one of the few modern series in which I've played and beaten all the main entries. I really enjoy the franchise, and agree with a lot of the assessments of the fans in this thread. SS was pretty good. Definitely a solid follow up but you can tell it's a launch title. There just needs to be ... more. They have a really nice base on which to build a really good follow-up game. I hope they get the chance to do it.

Combining the interesting traversal to creatively approach combat scenarios added it's own layer of tactical fun as well. Then there's the over the top finishers, the unique properties and gameplay mechanics of each of the different powers
All of those elements were awful and at the center for my complaints with the game.

Traversal was seemingly done with powers on one end then sloppily tacked on environmental interaction on the other. The open world rarely flowed beyond two or three points. It would have been phenomenal if they had properly curated the environment with paths that you had to learn to keep your momentum going. The only instances where the environment was properly crafted was when they wanted you to know this was an important zone. With the system currently in place Destiny Titan Skating is more fun and fluid than a character that can launch himself and fly through the air! Preposterous. Similarly the 'over the top' finisher system is built on precision shooting. Precision shooting in an open world game with super powers. Who thought that was a good idea? The powers had too much transposition between them and weren't nearly creative enough to keep my attention. I would have been happier with a smaller power set that felt more interesting. They looked phenomenal, but were generally pretty boring.

I will thank Second Son for making me so gunshy about pre-ordering this gen. Saved a lot of money avoiding disappointing games.
I could easily finish off my Platinum, but if I want some fun super action on PS4 I'd rather play the poor port of Saints Row 4.

I do not believe that you played through inFamous 1 and 2.

Those high expectations OP... I agree there's not much to this game. But oh well it was a fun week for me. Screw those filler missions though.

I loved this game. Total blast. Was it the best game ever? No. But the powers were sweet, graphics gorgeous, and combat satisfying. Holy shit, there's a bunch of whiners in this thread. Some of the comments like questioning how an adult could like this game and saying that Sucker Punch isn't very good because that person doesnt like their games...***shakes head*** Wow.

Love the game. Fast, fluid, tight gameplay, with fun powers and a fun world to explore with a nice ambience. Still one of my favs of the gen so far.

So incredibly hyped for the next sucker punch production which sounds like it may be a new IP.

Yup, this is the impression I got from the game. The main character looks like an awful generic hipster and the gameplay looked dull as heck. I found the Sly Cooper series also lacking in the fun gameplay department so I think it's a studio problem, Sucker Punch just aren't very good.

So anything you don't enjoy is because the people who created it aren't very good at what they do?

I didn't realize the reason creativity exists In the world is to make something Spliced finds fun, kind of reduces the meaning of personal expression.

You haven't even explained why the design is bad , except that you don't like the faces ..
What are you even trying to argue here ?

This, so much.

All I read is incoherent complaining without any real justification other than they don't look like Japanese designed characters

hmmmm I think I found the problem

I went in expecting to hate Delsin but he was actually really good, the gameplay is awesome as well

The game was lacking in certain areas (overall amount of content, side character development) but your concerns don't manifest themselves in the full game.

You are so biased OP. You should know what to expect from a game before you buy it. And if that is not the case, you can't compare to different ways of making games because you like one more over the other.

"I hate InFamous SS, because it doesn't feel like a game that I like" = Confirmation Bias.

Enjoyed the game so much to the point I started another play through as soon as I beat it the first time. Also,I got the platinum as well. It's kinda funny to me that games which people tend to hate are the games I have so much fun playing and I also get the platinum trophy for these games ( I:SS, Driveclub and The order 1886). I think with me, instead of playing a game and wanting it to be something else, I play them for what they are and what they offer and most of the time I always enjoy myself with these games. On a side note, I tried everything but I fucking hate Watchdogs that I couldn't even beat it(Took it back to Gamestop).

This, so much.

What makes it funnier is that the faces are some of the best that I've seen in video games. Being that they were scanned and such, they look like the actual people, not just programmed in or drawn, if that makes sense.

-Boss fights are absolutely horrible and overstay their welcome
-character development is non existent (do a single mission and turn these guys good or bad). Then say goodbye to them till the ending
-side activities are absolutely horrible
-game is incredibly short and is lacking in content
-powers are all pretty much the same.
-enemy ai is incredibly dumb and fighting the generic soldiers just isn't fun
-the city is horribly realized and feels lifeless

The game is pretty mediocre and not worth the $60 I paid for it. So much wasted potential.

First game I ever got a platinum for. Sorry to hear that you didn't like it. If it makes you feel any better I have never been able to find Devil May Cry or JRPGs interesting in the least.

Agree. It's a mediocre, shell of a game. I guess a 10 year old might like it but it's so unimaginative and so boring I really don't know how any adult can play this without considering it a waste of time. Harsh, but my honest opinion.

Liar, Liar pants on fire.

I don't see how anyone gets those Neon powers and doesn't think at least THAT is cool. Shit is so rad just running up walls. Only inFamous game that I've enjoyed.

This game felt like a chore to me the moment I went to another area to find out I had to destroy the same cameras, the same enemies, the same of everything.

Ubisoft games got shit on so much for being boring and feeling like a chore but I always felt Second Son took the crown for one of the most boring games I have ever played.

Pretty though! But that wears off in about an hour.

It was a mediocre game with plenty to like and plenty that was dull.

Traversal was fun, visuals fantastic, and the power designs / ideas were awesome (seriously, you didn't like the neon powers?!?) but mission design was bland and combat was typically quite dull. Deslin was fine, his brother was surprisingly cool, but yeah, Fetch was a top 10 all-time terrible character.

I recently borrowed it from a friend and this pretty much sums up my opinion.Though I felt the visuals could have been better. Muddy/flat skin/eye textures were pretty distracting especially with all the close-ups you get in those cutscenes. I also found the lack of shadows and reflections on certain surfaces a bit jarring.Still looked good for a near launch title.(I think I spent more time in photomode than I did playing the actual game.) A lot of potential here but I'm not sure SuckerPunch will ever fully realize it.

Loved it. Not as good as the awesome 2, but still really good. Can't wait for their next game. They've already got an amazing engine from SS, so whatever's next should be a bit meatier.

I don't see how anyone gets those Neon powers and doesn't think at least THAT is cool. Shit is so rad just running up walls. Only inFamous game that I've enjoyed.

Most boring power. I want to FLY, not run. :-)

first infamous will always be the best infamous.
Second best, Festival of Blood is the king.

Ice traversal.
The controls of 2 pissed me off, I mean for fucks sake, you already have a jump button, why isn't the Ice Jump there?

Gotta disagree. Infamous 2 was not only a better game, it is quite possibly the GOAT of super hero games, getting down to the essence of what it means to be a hero.
The only things 2 got over 1 is graphics and a slightly better character design, everything else is totally inferior.

Most boring power. I want to FLY, not run. :-)
Neon is the GOAT, looks cool too.
For flying, check Festival of Blood :)

More insulting than harsh. Pretty immature too.

Oh look, we've reached the 'any adult who enjoyed this must have the mentality of a 10 year old' opinion.

I cant believe this game has an 8.0 in metacritic

(I've played all the way till you find this origami girl and
the game told me I had some online connection problem.)

Note: the reasons why I cant stand this game are very subjective,
first of all I cant stand the main character
everything about him makes me want to punch the tv
I cringe at whatever he does and says, I don't even know the character's name.

Every line, every facial expression, what he wears, his animations his lame powers
(smoke?, neon, really!?)

and I cant stand his crack head girlfriend
Oh my, those faces, those horrible horrible faces.

Growing up playing mostly capcom/squarenix/Konami games
I tend to have a general idea of the aesthetics of characters that I like

Vegil,Dante,Leon,Nero,Snake,Chris,Squall,Cloud,Sephiroth.
Jill,Meryl,Tifa,Terra,Marle,Claire ect.

worst I cant even skip cut scenes right?

Oh, and the game play is just so bbbbbbbbbbooooooooooring,
absorb smoke, throw missiles, rinse and repeat, forget about the meele attacks
they are wonky and boring as hell.

Didn't any of the guys played a devil may cry game?

Oh gosh, and the story it's so lame, I cant stand the other characters,
and I didn't care for the grandma , (btw is the family and characters descendants of native Americans? )

I do feel that I played the game long enough to judge it and make a post,
being first ps4 title the graphics are good, but the character ruined it for me.

TLDR:

Did play it for a couple of hours.
about the music: I cant even remember it
Story: forgettable or I'm sure it's just silly x-men mutant power stuff.
Characters: I cant stand them ( all of them!)
Game play: honestly, none, nothing is fun, shooting cameras/drones?
spraying things on walls , should have been cool, but it's very linear, even dream cast jet set radio had some challenge to how you painted on the wall.
Graphics:Good, but the character designs and aesthetics ruined it for me.
Got the game for free bundle with kill zone so I'm just glad I didn't pay 60$ for this game.

Conclusion:

Unless the game gets so much better after you get both neon and smoke powers,I cant recommend this game to anyone.
I've never played any of the infamous games, so maybe this game is for you if you liked those. This game is not a good action game nor is it a good open world game.

Good Lord. I can understand you don't like the game but this post it's really awful and completely irrational. You should find a better way to criticize this game, not just let flow your angry.

Agree. It's a mediocre, shell of a game. I guess a 10 year old might like it but it's so unimaginative and so boring I really don't know how any adult can play this without considering it a waste of time. Harsh, but my honest opinion.

I cannot fathom a world where another person might not share my opinion on a thing! Perish the thought!

I'm an adult and I liked the game quite a bit. It isn't perfect by any stretch and I wish some things were different but I enjoyed both it d and First Light. Shocking.

I enjoyed Infamous SS. It certainly wasn't as solid overall as previous Infamous games but it was good for what it was, IMO.

Growing up playing mostly capcom/squarenix/Konami games
I tend to have a general idea of the aesthetics of characters that I like

Vegil,Dante,Leon,Nero,Snake,Chris,Squall,Cloud,Sephiroth.

So would you rate this game a Devil May Cry 2/10?

Your expectations for this game are weird. That OP was a headache to read.

I went in expecting to hate Delsin but he was actually really good, the gameplay is awesome as well

The game was lacking in certain areas (overall amount of content, side character development) but your concerns don't manifest themselves in the full game.
I'm completely with you on this. The core gameplay was fantastic, and the animation and graphics still haven't been matched in my opinion. The overall lack of content and side character development were the main downsides, although the world itself also didn't feel as alive as it should have (something that has been a constant in the Infamous games TBH).

I still rate it as one of the absolute best games I've played on current gen consoles.

So you don't like chocolate ice cream. You bought a huge bowl of chocolate ice cream and are now using the internet to tell us how you're hating it and have since the first bite?

Thanks OP.

I found it to be incredibly dissapointing:
- Uninteresting story
- Terrible Side content (why is it even open world?)
- Lacking power variety (2 had less elements but way better power variety. Second Son mostly feels like you are getting little more than a reskin of the same 4 powers over and over again)
- Lacking enemy variety

This needed less open world and more of everything else. Graphics and core gamplay were great though (I still think sucker punch could make an awesome Avatar game)

But come on OP. It seems incredibly silly to buy this game and then be dissapointed because it's not a japanese hack and slash with JRPG character design.

It's not perfect by any means OP but it doesn't sound like you liked the Infamous franchise in the first place so I'm wondering why you even bought it?

They all play similarly except SS has more powers for Delsin compared to Cole.

Anyway, I got the Platinum (first on PS4) and had fun on both my playthroughs.

Agree. It's a mediocre, shell of a game. I guess a 10 year old might like it but it's so unimaginative and so boring I really don't know how any adult can play this without considering it a waste of time. Harsh, but my honest opinion.

Oh my. Definitely the worst Gaf post I've seen all week.

You can say you don't like a game without resorting to insulting the people who enjoy it.

Learn to articulate your criticisms better.

I personally really enjoyed it, I found the gameplay to be a lot of fun and while the story wasn't at all great I found it to be at least serviceable. First Light is better in the story department, however.
