I think I know enough Japanese to understand Youkai Watch, but the whole "Buy a 2nd 3DS" thing is really offputting to me

I'm planning to buy a 3DS LL from the Akihabara Mandarake on Saturday, as I hear they're going for about 14,000 yen for a standard model. Would it be worth paying the 18,000~ odd for a brand new LL, giving me a better choice of model and a free game?
Not entirely sure how much 3DS games typically cost over there to know how big the price difference really is. I was planning on getting a copy of Pokemon X anyway.

LL/XL is a much nicer console. It just feels way better in the hand, the big screens are so much nicer, and the battery lasts longer.
Do you have a 3DS from another region? If so you might as well get Pokemon from somewhere else, since all regions have all languages but the Japanese one is ~5000 yen and the US one for instance is $40.

I'm definitely considering either the Orange Spice model, the Youkai Watch model or the Dragon Quest model (LL one btw). I can't make up my mind though, any suggestions?
Have to disagree here. There's not that many people who import 3DSs. Plus if someone ever figures a good regionfree hack that works on newer firmware, it just means I get a cool mint 3DS LL that could play US games and my US Zelda one for JP games. Worth it in the meantime to play these imports. Loving Taiko 3DS.Yeah. Buying a 2nd 3DS validates Nintendo's shitty region lock stance.
I got this bad boy because 1) I desperately loved the design (despite not being a big Pokemon fan) and 2) I wanted to be able to play all of the retail and digital 3DS games that'll never leave Japan.
Part of me does wish I'd sprung for a more "typical" model, though, as I actually use this one less than I otherwise would due to my fears of scratching/damaging it :|
Welcome to awesomeness. Absolutely love my Orange 3DS LL.

Youkai Watch and Dragon Quest VII
I'm curious about Youkai, and I said I can't read Japanese right now (so Dragon Quest VII is not an option). Anything else you'd recommend?
Can a JP 3DS LL play NA DS carts?

Had this for a few years now. I've gotten too used to my plain white XL though and I've been eyeing an import LL unit. I quite like the white Monster Hunter and Tomodachi Life ones that've been posted.
People in Japan take REALLY good care of their game stuff from what I've seen.Welp, I just bit the bullet on an OG Ice White 3DS using fromjapan (the seller says it's in terrible condition and sold it for 8000 yen (with the box and all accessories and inserts included), but pictures and other listings of his say that the slightest scratch is enough for a D rank by his standards, lol). Would have gone for an LL but they're just too expensive for what I wanted to pay for a second 3DS. I don't really mind the smaller screen but eh. By the time it ships out to me I'll have spent less than $110 I'm guessing, so I'm pretty happy.
Should be nice having early Smash access and a far superior eShop. Probably gonna use it to help in learning Japanese as well.
Grabbing a 3DS LL was the best decision and purchase I did last year. Let's ignore the fact that my backlog has been piling up because I've spent most of my 3DS LL time with Monster Hunter 4.
Also make sure to have a look at recochoku (レコチョク if you want to buy individual Japanese songs but don't feel like importing whole CD singles or albums (you can still buy whole singles/albums through the app). I have probably bought around 30+ songs from it.
I still don't get why N isn't bringing more colors or LEs to the west. All things considered, North America is still a huge market. Are they afraid it might not do good? What are they waiting for?
That white 3DS LL... God, that would make me buy a 3rd 3DS.
Just look at this thing.

damn I didnt know the taiko game was on the eshop. I would have just downloaded it on my 3DS instead of wait a month for the retail copy to arrive... I asked my wife. She said it says there should be a ticket in the box for the deal. If you didn't get one you can't get the free gane. How do I get the free game? I got a JP 3DSLL, but I can't read Japanese.
I'd also recommend Beyond the Labyrinth but it's not on eShop.

I guess Band Bros. P won't be coming here so I may look at importing it next...but is there a translation guide anywhere?
