LTTP: Persona 4 Golden

I just lost against the final boss with one hit remaining because it killed my MC at full health/guarding. So frustrating, but I guess that's what I get for trying to get through it underleveled. I don't want to go through that long fight again though.

I'm getting flashbacks to P3's end boss. Boss is almost dead. Boss uses charm on Yukari, Yakari heals boss to 100%. Boss is almost dead... ad infinitum. On the other hand it gave me a good incentive to defeat the Ripper so I could unlock the basement floor, to level up Abbdon as fast as I could.

I'm still pretty early on have to rescue/save the first person I think. I'm finding it difficult because I'm low on HP and theres NO healing items anywhere or shops inside dungeons. I don't want to leave the dungeon because then it forwards time to evening/next day. What can I do? I can' t survive anymore fights because I've ran out of items and have low HP. I was enjoying the game until now.

If you have Yosuke in your party, he has a healing spell called Dia he can use in and out of battle.

Personas like Pixie which you can pick up in the first real dungeon also have Dia.

The Skill menu can be used to cast healing spells on your part outside of battle.

A question about the Golden additional content: Do I have to do anything aside from the True Ending to unlock the new epilogue?

I still didn't start my Golden playthrough, but I definitely will this year and I can't wait for it, but I don't wanna miss anything new. I wouldn't need a Vita to play through vanilla P4 again, after all.

Yeah, you have to max out the social link with Aeon (possibly intimate relationship as well?). You also have to do an extra dungeon that takes place before the true ending.

So excited to start this. Just picked up a Vita and this game, and after reading all the love on the forum I can't wait. Gonna finish up Fire Emblem first though.

Love this game, definitely the best thing I could have purchased for my new Vita. It's kept me glued to the Vita more than I've used my PS4! I'm currently about 45 hours in, just finished
Naoto
's dungeon and I'm sitting at level 54. I've never had to grind once in the game so far, in fact I've felt somewhat overleveled a lot of the time, seems going back to do all of the optional bosses has helped.

Now that I've got "Megidola" it's made a lot of the annoying no-weakness fights a piece of cake (EAT IT WEALTH HANDS).

Sigh, i've always want to play this game. I have a vita sitting here (my uncle let me borrow it was suppose to return it yesterday but didn't and now he's gone away for a longish time). Although the system is tied to this account I am thinking of getting P4 and just playing it on his account...

I may be wrong but if you get a new memory card you can use a different PSN ID with that one.

Probably not worth the additional cost since the Vita is not yours, though.

Yeah plus I have to go through the whole restoring to factory settings and bla bla

Yep, mind charge + the Megido spells are your defacto golden hand killers. And guess what? Naoto gets BOTH. :D

For the most part, the only dungeon you'll ever truly feel a desire to grind in is Yukiko's. Like most games(in terms of SMT(yes I know Persona isn't one technically)), the difficulty is very front loaded. You have very few social links, the ones you do have are low, money is tight so you can't go too crazy with the compendium, you lack the ability to restore you SP inside the TV just yet, etc. If you always clear out the old dungeon again to get to the new optional boss fight(and you always should since there's always a character specific uber weapon in the room with it), and then clear out the regular dungeon, you'll be overleveled almost always. This gets worse if you have a knack at killing gold hands. In
the killer's
dungeon I'm lv80 now and the shadows are lv66.

For anyone confused about how the Persona system works, just make sure that your persona isn't too low in level in comparison to the MC, since unlike your party members, the stats of your currently equipped persona are your actual stats. If you have low END for example, you will find yourself getting hit much harder. The key to using the most of what the game has to offer is to realize that you can gain upwards of 6 levels the second you fuse a new persona if your social link is maxed with that Arcana. You can't make a persona that's higher level than you(level 55 MC can't make a lv56 Persona), but if the end result is higher, it's all good(level 55 MC can make a lv55 Persona that levels up to 60 the second it's made thanks to social links). This is good to get some abilities earlier than normal.

Just keep that in mind and keep a well rounded group of personas with you, and you won't have much trouble. :)

I love this game. Never gets old. Been playing it on n off since buying it in the Summer. What's amazing is I can leave it for a few weeks, come back to it and I'm hooked all over again. Which is exactly what happened yesterday. Plus the variety is great. Sometimes I'm grinding away for hours, other times it's the social stuff and narrative for hours etc.

Currently on the Mitsuo boss fight. Glad that they shake up the dungeon routine a little bit so it doesn't get stale.

My tip to anyone who doesn't like the combat portion and is still pretty early on: restart on Very Easy. Dungeons become quick sub-1 hour affairs where the only thing you need to look out for is the sound of a reflected physical attack. Just hit a shadow, press triangle, and wait a couple seconds. Fell asleep during a boss fight and somehow didn't auto attack to victory? You can restart from the very turn you died on.

It's mindless and lets you focus on what I believe are Persona 4's strength: everything outside the TV.

I've got a list of Vita games to catch up on, then I'm going on a New Game+ trophy hunt I think. Persona 5 needs to have a quick translation to English dammit, along with no stupid region lock so I can play the game in Europe with a US copy.

So outside of battle, is there actually alot of walking around or anything? Everything i've seen outside of battles just seems to be talking between characters.

Not really no. You walk around the same places over and over. It's not like typical JRPGs where you go from one town to the next.

You walk around town to find the people you want to talk to, but yeah, outside of battles it's mostly dialogue.

I'm five hours in, it's awesome, although a bit slow paced. The social psn functions though, smh (text bubbles everywhere, great idea)

Bought this recently for $28. This has to be one of my favourite JRPGs of all time.
It clicks and is often funny!

Just got the platinum trophy a few minutes ago. My final playtime was 121h 17m, and my final playtime for the first playthrough was 91h 4m, in case anyone else who is going to go for the platinum is curious.

The second playthrough goes by pretty quickly since you're speeding through all the cutscenes.

The past 3 nights i have said to myself "finally, tonight i beat the game" and each time i wasnt even close - the game just keeps going and going.

Im up to the True Ending boss now and keep getting my ass kicked... Will try again tomorrow.

The one where it can use control on your party members? That one fucked me over rotten. Spammed magic barriers and physical barrier for Yu and even then the 3 party members gangbanged me into oblivion.

Only reason I beat it is because I got a lucky critical with Chie's god hand and did enough damage to kill it before it started the 3-way control.

Okay, so I'm sitting here staring at Kanji's skills trying to figure out what to ditch for Masukunda, any suggestions? Here's what I currently have:

Mazio
Zionga
Rakukaja
Kill Rush
Regenerate 1
Dizzy Boost
Elec Boost
Fatal End

Is Regenerate 1 important to you? Always found those skills rather useless.

Thanks, I dumped Rakukaja...

Also, you don't need to be carrying a Hermit Persona ever to pump up your Hermit interactions correct? It's solely based on finishing quests?

Correct.

Although after doing the last quest you'll need to visit one more time to rank up to max.

Do people really take Dizzy Boost and Man's Way? Seems like a waste, since there are others who are better for regular battles.

I think I had the ff:
Power Charge
Primal Force
Matarukaja
Masukunda
Regenerate 3
Evade Wind
Maziodyne
Elec Amp

I really regret not getting Evade ____ on everyone. In P4 party members eventually lost their weakness, but they kept them in P4G.

Correct.

I know I'll never max that S-link because of that damn Sea Guardian.
That stupid stinking fish keeps breaking the stupid stinking line every time I try to land the damn thing.

But I'm totally not bitter or anything.

Can I mail you my vita for a week and have you get me to. New game plus with everything jacked up?

Haha, I totally ignored fishing until like... December/January in game... I was up to that quest and I freaked out not knowing if I'd have enough time to do it all and catch enough Guardians to complete the other side-quests for costumes (You need one to get a jewel for the Animal Paw or whatever I think). Luckily I managed it, had loads of River and Sea Guardians afterwards, they're really easy to get if you've read the Expert Fishing book for that Triangle button pull. Never had one get away on me, although they were tiring, felt like I was wrestling with my analog stick.

I just started playing the other day. Getting a little bit overwhelmed by the amount of gameplay info/options! The whole deal with fog and spending time outside too. It's really fun so far.

Same here... just started about a week ago. Been playing off an on, and at this point, it's feeling very similar to P3. It seems a bit more upbeat (might be the music more than anything), and I like the different look of the dungeons. I think it's still one of the most unique things to be able to go in and out of dungeons as you please, "living" outside of the dungeons with school, friends, etc., but feeling pressured due to the weather to get things done. Great game so far!

switch all characters so that you control them
Yeah I did that immediately. Same as every other RPG, it seems silly to me to let the game play any part of itself when I can play it.. no matter how good or bad it is at doing that.

edit: Is there any reason not to sell inferior gear after I buy something better?

Mudoon on Yukiko?

I currently have:

Diarama
Fire Break
Amrita
Maragion
Media
Agilao
Recarm
Divine Grace

Also, is there any place where someone has written up a good list of skill orders for the characters? ie. what to get rid of upon obtaining each new skill culminating in a good final skillset?

Edit: Oh! Also, any party suggestions? So far Kanji is an absolute definite, and I would like to use Naoto but I'm not sure how good of a fit that is depending on my fourth character. Would MC, Kanji, Naoto, Yukiko be a good party? I've currently been using MC, Kanji, Yosuke, Yukiko...

Is there a list somewhere of which S. Links you should prioritize finishing first because they disappear sooner? I only ask because I remember missing out on Rank 10 of a certain S. Link on P3P because I didn't realize it had an earlier deadline.

I just beat the game with that party and it works really well.

The only slinks that has a deadline in femc playthrough is The Moon and Fortune. You might of miss out on one of those. The other slinks that get stuck in Taurus can be lost if you didnt rescue as well.

Mudoon is fine on Yukiko, since a some of her late spells overlap with each other (eg Salvation is Amrita+Mediarahan) so you have a lot of room. I'd ditch Fire Break.

Naoto is the best party member for killing hands because she gets Mind Charge and Megidolaon.

I'd dump Fire Break, but Recarm is similarly useless and Divine Grace will eventually get kicked as well.

Any party works, but Naoto and Yukiko are total powerhouses now so you should be set to go.
