LTTP: The Last Story

How did you like that game?

Looking back, do you think it was as good as Final Fantasy?

Or maybe its direct sibling, Xenoblade?

Did you find the romance between Calista and Zael believable?

Will Nintendo and Sakaguchi revisit in the future, or is it dead for good?

I actually found a copy of this game a few weeks ago. So I'm currently replaying it.

1. I liked the game a lot, especially from a lets play. I even ranked it in my top 10 RPGs in the recent survey.

2. It felt like a Final Fantasy Greatest Hits album. The Party is very reminiscent of FFXVs bros (despite that game not being out yet),The scottish party member felt like Balthier from FFXII, The star spotting scene felt straight out of FFX with Tidus and Yuna, the Princess escape felt like FFIX, ect.

Direct sibling... Oceanhorn:Monster of the Uncharted Seas or Bravely Defult

These games are love letters to the games that they are inspired by and do a nice job of synthesizing what made them great, while throwing in enough new tricks to keep things interesting.

3. I am fully able to suspend my belief when it comes to these kind of romance stories and half the time i was just thinking of Tidus and Yuna anyway.

4. I hope its not dead for good. To me Xenoblade always felt like the JRPG version of Mass Effect, while "The Last Story" was a Nintendo exclusive Final Fantasy title. I would love a "The Last Story 2" that was a completely new scenario like happens in Final Fantasy games. Especially if they would keep an Active Turn Based battle system (please steal Valkyria Chronicles system) since Final Fantasy games are going more action orientated i think there is a place for it.

This is one game I must have started and stopped a bunch of times. Not sure why I've never finished it, because the game is awesome and I really like the combat system. Hmmm...maybe I'll get back into it sometime soon.

Got it on release and still haven't played it. Tried to last month when I realized my new TV only has HDMI support so I can't use my Wii on it and if I play it on my Wii U I have to use the Wiimote.

I had mixed feelings when I played it for the first time a few months ago. I think I got about halfway through the story
when the island starts physically moving
.

Don't regret playing it, though. It does a lot of interesting things and it certainly has its own character in how the developers implemented various systems. I liked how they focused on having small, but detailed locations over a large, sprawling world, and everything that did make it into the game felt like a top-effort. For instance, the side-quests are entire chapters that often take place in brand new locations to tell new scenarios. There was one in a haunted mansion that was excellent - complete with a rather unique boss fight.

Where the game let me down was in its balancing. The combat sounds great on paper, and makes for some interesting level designs and setups, but it's far too easy to just exploit one particular move and ignore the others, and mow down all the enemies with ease. Only in boss fights do you really feel like you have to make use of other battle systems (I remember there being a particularly good fight with a giant spider that eats other party members),

Can't you use the pro-controller for this game? I don't think it has any motion at all.

Still trying to find a copy. US copies are cheap, I wish WiiU was region free.

Wii Mode on WiiU is just as easily hackable as the Wii itself.
It's very easy to make Wii Mode region free.

To answer ze questions:

- I did not like the game at all.
- It's nowhere near as good as even my least favorite FF
- I went straight from Xenoblade into this, which may explain why I was so hugely disappointed
- The romance felt incredibly forced and unnatural
- I think the IP is dead, and good riddance

Sorry to sound like a negative nancy here, but I really did not like a single thing about this game.
The color palette is ugly, the combat is monotonous (it has potential though), the music is practically non-existent, the characters are obnoxious (with a few exceptions), it was just hugely disappointing to me across the board.

I still think Lost Odyssey is Mistwalker's best work, although I have my problems with that game too.

The Wii U Pro controller doesn't work on Wii games, and I always used the Gamecube controller as a Classic Controller on the Wii, but it doesn't work on the Wii U. I'm considering just emulating it. Then I can just use my DS4 or Xbone controller. Or finally try out my Switch Pro controller that I still don't have a Switch to use on lol.

Liked it a lot. Its definately not as open as xenoblade but i really loved the gameplay in battles. I would rank it above FFXV but below FFXIII which are the bottom FF numbered games as far as I am concerned

I would love to see a sequel on switch

It's been a long time since I've played it so I don't remember most details (that's what you get playing too many games), but I remember really liking it. It wasn't overly long, had a cool battle system and honestly felt like a breath of fresh air. I wasn't expecting it to be as fun as it was. So definitely recommended. I guess one "advantage" of not remembering much is I can replay games and experience them all over again!
