Seriously though. This is perfect for pranks. You should have the work list exportable to json for easier pranking.

No more "lol" and "LOL"?

Edit: the lol line simply won't get saved. :(

Edit2: IT WORKS YES

Regexes work as well!! :D :D

Browsed through the github repo. Why so much code for such a simple extension? Is it a byproduct of something else you were working on?

Is there a way to make the replacement conditional based on additional text within the body of the message? For instance, while I would normally not mind seeing the words "Retina Display" or "retina," I find it bothersome when either term is used to discuss the screen of the new iPad. In those cases I'd like to replace "retina" with "somewhat high resolution," if possible.

I have no experience with coding, so I don't know if this is doable or not as a Chrome extension.

It'd be much more complex to try to infer the context of a phrase, I'm afraid.

I did an initial POC in 45 minutes of just a single script, but I plan on using the repository in trainings to teach others CoffeeScript, Backbone, and test-driven-design, so I took the time to rewrite it carefully (just as I would if it were a serious client application).

I am going to install this on my wife's computer and replace common nouns with "cunt."

She's going to be in for quite the surprise when she sees what a bunch of foul-mouthed heathens she is friends with on Facebook. ;)

I primarily use Safari, and i'd love if this could be ported over without too much difficulty. The more I browse the internet with this extension in mind (and on chrome) the more I find it actually useful.

Awesome! What sort of uses were you thinking of?

(Also, a Safari port wouldn't be tremendously difficult. I'll add it to the list)

quick update: somebody opened up an issue about facebook messages, and that is now fixed in a new rolled out version (0.0.4). the plugin will now search & replace your words whenever new elements are inserted into the DOM (say, because of AJAX or javascript)

The only thing that annoys me is when people use "loose" instead of "lose". Though it wouldn't really work with this since sometimes people may actually mean loose, especially when discussing important matters like pornography.

I'm just trying to change my brother's name, so when he logs into Facebook it's different, but it's not working. :(

Worked perfectly fine for me with my sister. She spent quite a bit of time trying to "change it back" on Facebook and couldn't understand why it wasn't working. Have you tried turning it on and off again? It being the browser.

My primary use for this will be installing this on a co-worker's machine to fuck with his mind.

I think I'm going to do this to my co worker who talks american. Might put english english replacements in there, will the spell checker still work? Imagine if autocorrect was in a web browser. Could create a vortex.

This will be fun:

Now to install it in as many chromes as I can.
:lol :lol This had me in tears.

Sounds good! And replacing lol with :lol for one, so all lulz become laughing smileys (via that other extension). Had a bunch more uses such as name changing and making certain things CAPS, etc.
