Mafia 3 PC performance thread

This is one of the ugliest games that I've ever played. There are some serious technical issues with the lighting in this game. Also about the framerate, is it just me getting used to high fps or is 30fps unplayable in this game? Feels extremely choppy.

So much for ghe patch being released by the weekend.
Wait, I thought tomorrow was Saturday?

SHIT THE WEEKEND IS OVER? I HAVE A HUGE MEETING ON MONDAY WHICH IS NOW TOMORROW BECAUSE THE WEEKEND IS OVER.

Dang.

I really dig the weight of bullets in this. My biggest complaint in games with guns is how you shoot someone with a .45 and they act like they got hit by a stick. I want to feel/see the weight and force, I think they nailed it.

Its ridiculous we are even having to wait for a patch that should be the bare minimum in pc ports.

Just booted this up and even with a 60fps update and possibly removing some CA and some post effects, the game just wont look good. I swear all the videos I watch about this game looked 100% better than what I'm seeing. It's not just one thing, its like the entire game is lacking in everything - I sure hope the story is good.

They said the update would go live THIS weekend, not BY the weekend.

They didn't even say that... They said it would be released this weekend only if everything all checked out ok. There's a chance it won't be released this weekend but they said they'd keep us updated

I notice that a cracked copy of the game has already leaked. Slightly annoying, that pirates are playing the game, before those of us who paid and are waiting for the patch.

Anyone else getting a weird audio glitch where there is an angle you can face while in cover, the NPCs voice over pretty much fully cuts out? (it's still there, but very, very quiet).

What?

Wouldn't the pirates also be playing the same shitty unpatched version? It's not like that one would magically run at 60fps with great IQ.

Yeah, seems to be a weird thing to get hung up on.

Hence the word 'slightly' in there. Hardly 'hung up'. Besides, I'm currently enjoying replaying the Modern Warfare remastered campaign while I wait. I do find it odd though that they spent millions on the game but didn't plump for Denuvo.

They use the same DRM as GTAV, called antrax or something like that.

Does the app not work?

Borderless Gaming does the trick, yeah. I'll add it to the OP.

Edit: Alt-tabbing is a problem, though. The game doesn't crash, but it eventually switches back to bordered window despite the presence of BG.

Do PS4 and Xbox One have the same problem(s) with lighting and weather or is it just a PC 'exclusive' feature?

edit:
Just noticed that CPU load can go as high as 80% while driving at 'fast' speeds through the city (6700k @ 4.5ghz). This will be interesting once the 60 fps patch hits...

So gamepad support is broken on PC?

The only issue I have had (360 pad) is that if I nudge the table and it makes the mouse active, the movement is stilted when the pad is made active again. I have to press the start button to go into the map, come back out, and all is well again.

The only reason they are fixing it is they don't want the mess of having to deal with refunds en mass.
Yep, 88 pages strong thread over there at the Steam community hub with lots of people telling they'll refund if this isn't getting solved immediately.

I'll just wait. I waited long enough for Mafia 3 so I can handly another couple of weeks. Still have a backlog.

We're talking Max Payne 3 levels of good hit reactions, ragdolls and animations.

Yet NOONE IS POSTING GIFS. Seriously, despite the simplistic enemy AI, the gunplay is legit amazing. Infinitely better than GTA and take's WatchDog's crown for best TPS combat in an open-world game (the one thing that game did right).

GAF I am disappoint.

i3570k @ 4,2Ghz, GTX 970, 8 GB RAM.

I have to play in 720p and on medium settings to keep locked 30 fps. Tried 720p on high but the framerate tanked during the
Mardi Gras escape from the police

Also possible to play in 1080p on low, but the game loses a lot of its charm on low due to the lack of bloom etc.

The story is fantastic, but the game runs like utter shit. It's a real shame. Hoping the patch fixes this horrendous performance.

Same setup as me apart from my 3570k is at 4.3GHz, I kinda hope it's your PC and not the game because that's awful.

This sounds... bad. Something is wrong here i guess.

Edit: I thought you have i5. It looks like game is very CPU demanding?

Tinfoil hat time.

What if they intentionally locked it at 30 because they know the likelihood of most folks hitting 60 is slim and they're stalling to get their shit sorted?

Edit: >_>

i7-6700k, 970 & 16GB RAM here and it maintains 30 fine on the optimal preset setting.

i5 6600k at stock, nearly locked at 1440p on max besides AA on low.

solid 30 fps on 1080p and 1440p everything on high + custom settings in nvidia control panel to force some stuff

cpu barely go over 20-30% and gpu barely 50% from what ive noticed on 1080p didnt check the usage on 1440p but ran just as well.
looks like 60+ fps should be easy.

only 1 one crash so far after 3 hours of play.
also they need to slow down the weather system or fix something about the cloud/weather movement, it looks ugly on the ground and creates lighting bugs sometimes as if time is sped up way to much.
i would like to see a higher draw distance its way too short for pc i can clearly see everything pop-in in the distance.
hoping the fps patch comes soon, the combat feels realy good even with a mouse and keyboard dispite the 30fps (atleast on my pc it does), although i wish the stock keyboard mapping was a bit better.

i7 2600k@4Ghz
GTX1070
16 gigs ram
win10

The fade in of cars is super annoying. Crash kicked me out of the game.

No. Controller works perfectly.

Here are some quick shots with the framerate unlocked. Everything on Medium. Doesn't seem like it's optimised for anything above 30fps right now. Hopefully the official patch fixes that.

Completely broken on my end. Wouldn't show the binds (saw this bug reported a few other places) in the options menu, won't let me use any buttons to leave the starting room. Had to switch to mouse and keyboard to make it work.

This game was cracked by deleting a SINGLE line in one of the files rofl. Shoulda just stuck with steam DRM. Also you're thinking Arxan.

Steam's claim to fame as far as copy protection is concerned is that it prevents pre-release piracy, which it does by packaging pre-load and retail disc data into heavily-encrypted archives -- there has yet to and likely will never be a case of a pre-loaded/retail Steam game being cracked. (There's no protecting against people with a pre-release access key cracking the game, though -- see Dragon's Dogma.) As post-release DRM, however, it's practically useless, which is precisely why Denuvo has become as common as it is.

I am running the same as you but with 16GB RAM. I haven't bothered to use the overclock on my 970 as the game isn't struggling at all on the highest settings at 1080p. GPU usage has maxed out at 50% at most and I haven't dropped any frames.

Some people have reported high GPU usage on the Steam forums but I haven't had anything like that so far.

On another note:

The dithering effect on everything is really noticeable and off putting. It makes the game look so rough in places.

I understand all that, I meant that they didn't even have to bother implementing other DRM when it's bypassed by deleting a line of text in a file. Should have only used Steam

Fucking shit. First Forza now this. Shit like this makes me want to quit playing games. Fucking predatory market full of broken pieces of shit. This industry sucks.

Video game journalists suck. They don't have the guts to confront developers and publishers for these problems. They're too scared of not getting review copies or ad revenue. It's a fucking mess.

I have no real problems with the game, just a general problem that I have.

IMHO, this is a good thing, and should serve as a lesson to the devs to simply stop fucking the paying customer that pays their fucking bills. Same shitty version or not, the paying customer should have a copy that is worth the price of admission day one. So tired of this shit and devs treating their customers like useless pieces of garbage.

It's kinda amazing how childish these publishers can be. Or they just want maximize revenues while not caring too much about quality of their product so too honest reviews will harm their bottom line.

"Well your review(s) don't line up with out marketing campaign so we don't want you playing with us at sandbox so we are taking all toys away!"

The built in 30fps lock results in stuttering and bad frame pacing (frametime not stable 33.33ms). For some unfathomable reason devs cannot correctly lock to 30fps for shit (not that they ever should) - this fact was mentioned by digital foundry at some point. The only recent game that lock to 30fps properly is Forza Horizon 3.

But there is a way to eliminate stuttering and have stable frametime of 33.33ms. Two things need to be done:
1) Setting 30fps lock via Riva Tuner Statistics Server

Source: http://www.pcgamer.com/durantes-witcher-3-analysis-the-alchemy-of-smoothness/

2) Setting vsync to "1/2 refresh rate" in nvidia control panel or nvidia inspector.
B4PMlI3.jpg

These two things combine result in proper 30fps with stable frametimes, proper framepacing and no stutter (although I did not test it extensively, it seems better than the build in 30fps lock, definitely not worse).

This worked for me, I tried first with the Nvida control panel with the adaptive half refresh rate but got the tearing, the nvidia inspector did the trick.
Game feels smooth now, and with this reshade (Colour Correction / Blur Removal) it also looks a lot better.
Still hope we get a patch soon, but its playable for me now and the game is good so far

I have the same problem and similar specs (i5 4460, no overclock). Maybe it's RAM that is bottlenecking?

Are you joking ? I can hold 30 fps pretty much stable with a 7950 oc to 1150, same for the mardi grass escape from the police.

Tried monitoring everthing. It's definitely a CPU bottleneck.

Went to a stressfull area (which brings fps down to 23) and GPU usage is around 70% while CPU usage is 98% and around 6gb ram is being used.

I can't overclock my i5 4460 with my mobo, so I guess I can only wait and see if they optmize with patches. :(

Really hope they fix the damn stuttering. Rock solid 30fps, but still it stutters like mad. No matter what I do trying to prevent it.
