Mafia 3 PC performance thread

I even have tearing with G-Sync. It is distracting as fuck. The game is fun but it really takes me out of the game. I can't even remember the last game that has problem with G-Sync. Goddamn it.

Soooo performance got WAY worse for me since the last patch. With low-middle settings I could play pretty smoothly with 60fps before (GeForce 970) but now the framerate just collapses when I'm driving around. Anything else experienced the same?

^ I recommend you no reshades, just lower AA and/or use downsampling.

This is weird, did you unlock framerate and disable ingame vsync? I have no tearing at all. Besides, make sure you select "use the maximum refresh rate available" (or something like that) in the NVCP, should be the last option in the global settings.

Yeah it's strange indeed. I did all that obviously, I have been using G-Sync for 2 years and the only one other game that did not work is Quantum Break, but it was because G-Sync was not supported in UWP at that time.

Going by Google search it seems like there are some that got the same problem.

Forcing V-Sync to on in driver together with G-Sync fixes that though.

I tried this one which is what prompted me to come here and ask. While it certainly made things clearer, it also fucked up a lot of other stuff making it look generally worse (imo).

I think I'm gonna go with vanilla.

I also stopped using that reshade and now running vanilla. Game's look can be pretty charming in the right place at the right time.

Any way to get a consistent 60fps in this? On a 970.

looking to see if there are any settings known to be huge performance hogs

So reflection quality and volumetric lightning are huge performance dampeners, AA on High as well. The rest according to DF don't seem to have as much impact. The problem is even with these settings on Low, driving in heavily congested areas still messes with the framerate, drops to mid 40s at times.

Decided to lock it to 30fps on my 1060 for a consistent experience..what a fucking shame.

Anyway any ways to reduce input lag? Have half refresh rate and locked 30fps in RTSS but the lag is still there.

Appreciate the tip! Game feels a lot better now tinkering those settings down.

So when are they gonna fix this game? Or do we have to wait 6 months like AC Unity and Batman Arkham Knight?

They are silent. Last thing they said that they will share Update info soon. That was last week. They probably wait until update is ready. They need to fix a lot of things.

Hell yeah, I played 2 hours the weekend after it was released. With the '60fps-patch'. Graphics were shit, FPS still sucked and it crashed 2 times in one hour....
Haven't touched it since. Luckily I pre-ordered Battlefield 1 :D

Yeah, that one went straight into the backlog for me. Will play it in a couple of months if they'll do something good with that engine of theirs.

They are working hard. Season pass is coming, and content looks pretty strong.

A re-post from the other thread

Random quotes from the Steam forums:

Smoother, much, much smoother. Less Flickering, solid and stable Framerates in the upper 55 Frame per Second Range,...

You will probably see with your own eyes that a lot has changed with todays Update.

Looks fine, they fixed the disco sun. Night day night day night day.

That's really a nice patch. I got around 100 fps with GTX 1070. Well done! Graphics looks amazing now. A whole new game!

runs now wonderful on my pc (i7 6700k, GTX 1070, 16gb ram) glad i waited :)

Really? Pics?

Pics of?? Mirrors bug?? It might be biggest meme from the game, strange that you missed it.

My impressions of the patch so far. About 1 hour of playtime.

980ti, 4670k @ 4.2Ghz, 16GB DDR3 2400Mhz, game installed on SSD.

Performance:

  • Frametime is more consistent. I got rid of my fps counter because i didn't want to be fixated on it too much but it definitely felt way more fluid now.
  • Framerate, however, still fluctuates quite a bit when driving through crowded places.

Visual:
  • Reflection seems better, going fast by boat the reflection is much more correct and less flickering.
  • Mirror reflection is still fucked. Image is distorted as before. However I can see that Lincoln's reflection happens simultaneously now, not delayed like before.
  • Pop-in still can be seen quite frequently when driving fast but not that annoying.
  • Skybox is pretty now and not pixelated anymore and it seems like the weather bug is also fixed.
  • The lighting bug where the screen seems like it's smeared in chrome spray paint, most often encountered when transitioning from outdoor to indoor and when it's raining, is improved a lot. But still there is problem as seen in pic below, look at how Lincoln is glowing, instead of golden now it's more of a dark hue.

Other:
  • UI resolution is now rendered independently from resolution. I actually dislike this because the UI at 1440p before the patch was less intrusive for me.
  • Settings seem to stick now. Both the launcher and in-game.
  • Gsync still broken. Need to force V-Sync to on in NVCP together with GSync to work.

The lighting is still crappy and does weird shit for no reason -
I mean fucking hell...
Even though I'm at 50hz the game only runs at 60 or 30 fps unless I go windowed. But as there is no borderless windowed option that's not an option.
So the game is still a bit on the shitty side.

Actually it does perform a little better for me on a i5-2500k/1070/16gb RAM/SSD, stays closer to 60fps than before but still get occasional drops, definitely much more playable than before.

Clock speed on your 2500k? I have one and I'm very worried about performance if I were to buy this.

4.2Ghz, it's definitely better, if you're okay with playing at 30fps it will be a completely locked experience but if you want 60fps, expect some drops here and there, especially when driving fast.

Patch worth reinstalling the game? Didn't really made it far into the game after i decided to not bother until there was enough stuff fixed.

Game runs a little better on my PC after this patch, but still not getting a solid 60 on any settings.
i5 6600k, 390x and 16 GB ram shouldn't struggle this much.
Still, at least they're patching the game I suppose.

Is it me or did they do something with the 21:9 aspect ratio support? The main menu is now in 16:9, and the objectives what not in game are also displayed as I was using an 16:9 monitor, causing the objectives menu to be basically in the middle of my screen...

Since the latest patch I am now getting quite frequent freezes whether I am on foot or in car and at different areas of the map. I have unlocked the framerate to get away from the horrible 30fps lock I was running under so I don't know if that is anything to do with it. I cannot remember freezes like this when I initially tried running at an unlocked framerate weeks ago.
