Mafia 3 PC performance thread

So the game keeps constantly crashing, but I cannot get a refund since I have played 4 hours.

This is so ridiculous, not only that, but now my PC is shutting down randomly since these crashes have started...

After the patch if I set it to 60 FPS i get steady-ish 30 fps in non-driving sections but in most driving sections it drops to about 20, feels really bad. Before when the cap was 30 I'd get mid 20's regardless.

Here are my specs, I meet the minimum requirements and I am running it with the optimal settings and not the quality ones. should I just turn every single thing down to low?

I suspect you are getting CPU bound which results in FPS drops. Game is very CPU depended.

Can confirm that reshade was the cause of my moment to moment crashes.

Now I've seem to be hit with the hint popup crashing.

*sigh*

Have you been playing any CPU intensive games lately? You might have something wrong on your cpu that hasn't shown up until something came along and pushed it hard. What are your temps like? Have you checked out your fan?

This is a random guess but I think they might have used a lot of gpu compute on the consoles. And for PC they fall back to CPU only for those systems, since there is no unified RAM and more configurations to consider. Algorithms intended for GPU compute are very taxing to run on a CPU. This would explain how the game is CPU bound even though the consoles have much weaker CPUs.

It is me or the textures are really low quality?

yes, they're 520x520 iirc

someone confirmed it earlier

On all platforms?

Gee, how sure are we that this game wasn't in development for PS360?

Mafia III [OT] - Next-gen 512x512 Mafia

I really want to play this but I think I'll wait until at least one more month or so until developers have finished patching the game (if they intend to do so)

Have folks had many crashes to desktop at all ? It's happened to me about 7 - 8 times so far over the last day or so. It's infuriating since I'm loving the game itself so much apart from this.

I just wish the 30fps lock actually kept it at a stable 30. If I can stay around 59 but it drops to 54 in traffic then why the guck can't it be a smooth 30? Shame. Really looking forward to it and enjoying what I play but I'm going to wait out a bunch of patches first. :(

Are you using reshade? I've seen people getting a lot of crashes with some of those. Mine isn't crashing at all and I played it for most of today.

Did any of you PC guys notice the Looking Glass code pop up during the downtown part of the game?

Hanger 13 is located in the same city that 2K Marin (studio founded on IG talent, Bioshock 2, Minerva's Den, BioShock Infinite), so I'm guessing there's likely some old blood working there.

Brought a smile to my face to see it randomly pop up.

I don't even know what to do anymore, I just can't play this game!
Nevermind what I pick in the launcher (low/med/high), it's always different than the game menu and I need to change it again, it's really weird and annoying because it takes time for the game to change it's graphics.
But my main problem is that no matter what quality I put it on, it runs ok at first and really dips into 1 FPS territory later (no hyperbole. When I'm driving it's like the game just "stucks" for a few seconds). I have 770GTX, and for example The Witcher 3 with everything maxed out runs better for me than Mafia 3 on low. Especially while driving.

What's your CPU and how much ram do you have?

Is there currently any way to play this game on PC with stable 60fps on medium-low settings or sth, or is it broken no matter what?

Yes. However performance doesn't seem to have an pattern to it. I've not had a single crash in 4 hours of game time. Playing at 1080p, everything High/On, except AA to Low and Reflections to Medium.

Not getting any frame drops. 6700k/980ti(OC)/16GB/Windows 10

I'm not on any beta drivers or anything. Latest Nvidia driver from September. I know it's not helpful, but some of us are not having issues.

Edit - playing off a Samsung SSD.

reflections seem to be the most taxing quality setting. Setting that to low and everything else on high gets me 50+ fps on a titan xp at 4k. So id imagine 60 is acheivable at lower resolutions with probably a 1060 at 1080p. 1070-1080 at 1440p

Can't get 60 while driving in the city with a 6600k, GTX 1080 and 16Gb RAM with everything set to low at 1440p, so it really depends on the CPU.

E: I am running off an HDD though, as I'm out of space on my SSD. Any HDD/SSD comparisons in terms of asset streaming and related hitching?

same here, had a pretty smooth experience, no crashes (4790k/970(OC)/16GB/Win10

Those who have been getting a lot of crashes and are using the https://sfx.thelazy.net/games/preset/6205/ reshade should download the new update (4.1) as it was reported this reshader could have been causing crashes.

We had a load of crashes yesterday when I'd only had one before using this reshade so hopefully the update addresses this as the game looks so much better using it.

So if the textures are 512x512 and the game still runs like it does - I would HATE to see how the game would run with better texture resolution. They spent 'years' building the 'tech' - is that for Mafia IV, because it certainly isn't in this game.

Textures normally do not have a big impact on performance, except in memory bound cases.

Wow The Saboteur, what a special game that was. Loved it.

These inconsistent textures and lighting glitches, are these on the console version too? Im especially curious about the textures, some look great then some look very low resolution. Does anyone know if that's the same with PS4 & XBO?

I wonder why textures are so last gen, even on a PC. They must have higher quality textures that were created at some point in the art pipeline. Why not use them at least for the PC version?

The engine programmers at H13 are probably getting pretty stressed out right about now. Only so much can be fixed without the engine fixed itself.
Most problems seems to be coming from a rather strange implementation of lighting function, I wonder if there's something just broken in how it accumulates everything between frames.

The game is using ~3GB of VRAM on max settings in 2560x1600, going to 6GB won't have any noticeable performance effect on cards which have 6+ on board so they could just double the texture resolution for the latest round of GPUs without even changing their streaming tech probably.

I have 100% GPU usage in the game with the 60 FPS update. My CPU is a 6700K @ 4.0 Ghz and it hovers around 80% CPU utilization at max. It mostly idles around 50%

Using a 980 Ti at 1440p by the way. Everything maxed except for anti aliasing which is on Low.

I'm definitely not seeing most problems people are having. I'll try to benchmark my framerate in detail but since I have Gsync, if it's not 60 FPS during city areas as well, it's mostly near 60.
