Mafia 3 PC performance thread

i5 and 4GB (I also have 4GB on the card if that matters)
But I don't know if it's even relevant, because as I mentioned I run The Witcher 3 on everything maxed out better than Mafia 3 on the lowest settings (but all settings preform the same).
I'm thinking of reinstalling the game. Maybe that'll help somehow because it's a really weird issue.

4GB of Ram could be the problem here and explain why you experience sudden 1 fps like stutters (Game uses around 6.7gb for me). Also if graphical setting do not influence your performance than you're most probably CPU bound. My 6700k (for example) gets hammered like crazy, CPU load is sometimes over 85% per thread while playing this game, but to make things worse it is also incredibly GPU demanding. Performance wise this game is a very special gem.

Short clip of my performance, if you want to take a look at CPU load.

whats the current status of the port? I know the game has issues tech wise (and gameplay wise), but just feels like a game I kinda want to support out of obligation.

3570k 980ti 16gbram. I'm not expecting it to run perfect at 1440p but hopefully its decent enough?

My experience so far hasn't really been bad.

I'm running a 4690k and a 970. I have everything maxed except AA, FPS at the 30 lock, and ReShade on.

FPS has been very consistent at 30 and the only actual issues I've had were;

A) There have been two or three cutscenes where the video would stop and cut forward while the audio kept going as normal

B) Occasionally there will be a weird distorted square that I'm guessing is a texture that didn't load right. If I spin the camera or put something between me and where that texture is it usually fixes itself.

mafia 3 looks like crap on pc and runs like crap on pc, GTA V looked so much better and ran so much smoother, its sad and disappointing that after waiting 6 years for something like that. it looks so bad, mafia 2 looked better

30 fps, yeah sure. 60? you'll have a lot of drops to 50-45fps. I'm barely able to hold 60 (some drops to 57) on my 6700+1070 at 1080p.

The introduction has some very rough spots and weird weather, lighting bugs (?). But after that the game actually can look okay with some highlights here and there (as always). Performance wise, yeah it's extremely demanding.

Hmm. I immediately set everything to low and turned it up to 60fps before the game even launched and it went smoothly for the 8 or so hours I played it.

I want to turn up the settings but it's already maxing out my CPU just running it the way it is. Such a horrible optimized game. Disappointing because I'm really enjoying it.

i5 4460 @ 3.2
8gigs
R9 280

It actually looks pretty good and real smooth with everything turn down as much as it could go hahahaha but then again I've never really cared about games "looking pretty" as long as they're fun.

Still weird that I had no problem with other games.
Well I gotta upgrade my RAM to 8 anyway so we'll see how it runs after that...thanks

This is my favorite thing from this game so far:

The mirrors in the game are absolutely hilarious. They're so idiotic I actually really enjoy them.

I just don't understand why you'd implement them like this. It's so unnecessary. Just a static shot of the room would be better.

You know what, as dumb as it sounds, I think I'd really like a retrospective of (good and bad) game mirrors and the various methods devs have used for them. Would make a decent DF Retro if Dark1x doesn't have a game locked in one week.

So basically there is no difference between LOW-MED-HIGH on PC for Reflections - Geometry - Volumetric - Shadow?

What the h*ll's going on here? How can there be no f**king difference yet performance tanks?

Same problem here, my I5 3570 hitting the 80degrees pretty often in Mafia III. Its the single game where my CPU is getting so hard reckd ( 90-100% CPU Usage is Standard in this game ... ), + Its not a boxed cooler, i bought a new one a week ago.
Already tried with some fan options but nothing really helped here.

Same thing here with the same processor. This doesn't happen when I lock it to 30 but the fans start going INSANE after I switch it to 60. I had temps around 70degrees C and around 90% CPU usage.

Sucks that the reshades crash my games so much. I've even had to restart my pc a couple of times because it was completely stuck. :(

Mafia 3 – PC vs. PS4 vs. Xbox One Graphics Comparison

Textures look identical, they didn't even try to improve them for the PC version. Shadows are almost the same. Only real plus for the PC version are higher resolutions, if your PC can handle that.

Also what's wrong with the lighting effects missing @4:25??

Game looks like an ugly blurry mess (on all plattforms, Xbox One being the worst, looking like 720p) and has terrible performance on top of constant crashes and bugs on PC. This is just bad.

Despite all the negative feedbacks I bought the game... It doesn't run bad at all, I thought it was going to run much worse. Playing maxed out at 2k with unlimited frame rate (but I have gsync enabled so there is no tearing), god if it pushes the system to the limit, never heard my CPU fan making so much noise. There are some slowdowns when there is a lot of vegetation but the gsync saves the situation.

My rig: 6700k@4.5, 16GB RAM, 980Ti at 1.5GHz (using the previous WHQL drivers, not the latest). I installed the game on a SSD, so it loads pretty fast and I did not notice any pop in or weird stuff going on. The only bug is that related to the lighting and the weather, sometimes it changes so fast with shadows going back and forth with no reason. Must be the southern weather I guess.

Not sure if this was mentioned but for anyone having issues of constantly crashing to desktop I uninstalled the VC distributables I had installed that Mafia 3 uses (2015 I think it was) and then rebooted and installed the ones in the _CommonRedist folder in the Mafia 3 files. Didn't have a single crash last night in around 4 - 5 hours of play.

Can't take credit for that as I read it somewhere else, but don't have the link to give the credit to.

The first time I booted this game on launch night I couldn't see myself in the mirror. It was a static shot of the room. No matter how long I waited, I never appeared lol

I had to turn the 30fps lock back on. The game kept crashing on me all the time when capped at 60fps..

Anyone else getting these odd square graphical glitches from time to time which appear for a brief moment.

Also had his happen to me.

Yeah the squares pop up once in a while for me.

Are you overclocking your GPU?

There is definitely popin of cars on the street if road stretches ahead of you, akin to the one in Watch_dogs:

I reinstalled Watch_Dogs a while ago and I have to say: It didn't age well. It looks kind of outdated, imo.

No, I'm running a GTX 1070 at stock speeds. I'm using the lastest drivers for Mafia 3.

Great gameplay, technical mess.

Yeah the lighting is really wonky. It gets all weird looking sometimes.

Had this happen to me today. It looks like there's a huge explosion going on but it's just the lighting going crazy.

Pretty sure the weird glitches like the invisible cubes are just weird glitches. I've had them too. If it was overheating artifacting it wouldn't be so similar across players.

Edit: NVM you're talking about crashes.

Ya had those and well and my stuff might as well be supercooled lol. its not that.

To desktop.

Yes, though only LumaSharpen.

Around 70 - 75 give or take.

Could be LumaSharpen...
Somebody mentioned that it could be causing game crashes a couple of pages ago. Uninstall it (dlls etc. in the mafia 3 folder) and try if it still crashes at 60 fps.
