Mafia 3 PC performance thread

I'm using a Reshade with a bit of vibrance, tonemap, and SMAA, and both advanced and luma sharpen.

The one thing I can't get right is the clouds - sometimes they look like there are scan lines in the skybox, even with the AA on low. Turning off sharpening alleviates it but then everything looks blurry - anyone doing something for this? I'd post a picture but I'm on mobile at the moment.

Could be LumaSharpen...
Somebody mentioned that it could be causing game crashes a couple of pages ago. Uninstall it (dlls etc. in the mafia 3 folder) and try if it still crashes at 60 fps.

Thanks for the tip, gonna give it a try.

The scan lines are honestly visible no matter what. The skyboxes are just terrible in this game.

If you're playing with a wireless controller, be careful: the game will hang and sometimes hard lock if the controller is turned off/runs out of battery.

Also this might not be pc-exclusive, but does anyone else have problems with the weed-boat missions? Sometimes the icon will disappear between play sessions, and the last time it reappeared and I went to the location the boat and enemies didn't spawn.

Anyone using reshade (I'm using Nyclix's) - I've found that I immediately crash if I change the graphic settings in-game - in particular, if I change the reflection settings (I change things to check differences and fps change), the game crashes soon after. If I don't play around with the settings, I don't have any crashes.

Had the same issue, you have to capture more territory/rackets.

If I were to rate the port, it's a 5/10, as for the game, it started off as a 9, a little deeper in and now it's a 7/10.

Thank fucking god.

The last two times I've played the game have ended in crashes, and I've probably had around 50 crashes total in my 30 hours of the game. Hopefully this fixes it up, because otherwise I'm probably just going to call it good and YT the rest of the story.

Any of you kind gentlemen want to show off some post patch screenshots?

Would love to see if they cleared up the blur problem the game had.

Great news, glad to read they're taking care of the game also with new free features coming in the future. Waiting for the patch to finish downloading.

I don't see much of an improvement tbh, but maybe that's just me.

1080p, max settings, aa medium

Well having a reshade running certainly does help out a lot. Hadn't had a single crash since I forgot that Fraps interfered with it.

On digital's foundry video they get 60+ fps while driving, i have an I5 6600K + Gtx 1080 and got drops to low in the mid 40s with the same settings, anybody know why i have such bad fps ? Has my system a problem ?

Look at your CPU load (per thread) while in the low 40s. With a 1080 all I can imagine is that your CPU is holding you back... DF is using an i7 in their video and I know that my 6700k can reach 80%+ on all threads while playing...
I said it multiple times now, Mafia 3 seems to be over demanding on all fronts. An 6600k and a 1080 should be able to run all current games without mayor drops.

I just found this reshade preset, will try it out - I'm not sure if it's still relevant after the latest patch which supposedly sharpened the graphics.

Mediafire is down so I cannot download the file from the description: "ReShade+2.0.3+with+Framework+1.1.7z" - i tried googling for it but no luck. Anyone knows where I can download it?

I hate to sound like a idiot, but how do I know this is safe to download and use if it has an .exe?

The preset should have no exe. It's just a predone profile.
Reshade on the other side. Well as always there is no way to be sure 100%. There never is. But reshade.me should be safe...

Well something isn't right then. Running the game maxed out (minus AA, it's set to low) at 2560x1080 on a 980ti.

The lowest i had before patch was 51fps while driving, now its almost 60fps all the times. Drops to 55's in some instances.

i7 3770 @ 4.6ghz. Dunno why peeps with high end pc's are having these issues, like in Forza Horizon 3.

You are talking about fps and I'm talking about cpu load.
I can hold 60 fps most of the time at 1080p +10% oversampling. I can also play horizon3 on mostly ultra a settings and 4xmsaa on my setup. Still cpu load is up there, just check yours while the game drops to 55. I bet it's running around 70% per thread.

Oh yeah, i did a wrong quote lol. Was referring to the guy with 40fps and a 1080. Anyway i will check it, yes.

I can't believe that the game crashes so much when you have Reshade enabled to remove the blur. It's pretty infuriating.

I stopped using Fraps while using reshade and the Game had not crashed since for me. Any other overlays you're using?

I think the patch improved something perfomance-wise - my GPU boost clock is now much higher, which means the temps are lower (so usage is too), and I stopped hearing my CPU fan.

Tried that reshade but even if it fits with certain light conditions, it messes up with others (like any other reshade) and it produces weird glitches, like characters and objects becoming yellow/golden. Better keeping everything like it was meant to be.

That glitch is present in the vanilla game too. It's not because of that reshade.

Really? I never had that before using that reshade preset... It happened only in interiors by the way. The problem about these reshades is that they use fixed post processing effects, while vanilla games have many according to the TOD and the location you find yourself in that moment, so yeah, it may be good on certain weather/lighting conditions but at the same time it alters the artistic view of others.

Yeah, I am not arguing against that. I just meant to point out that that specific bug is not related to the reshade. I encountered that at least twice now in my vanilla game.

I haven't had many crashes with the Reshade using ToneMap, a bit of Vibrance, SMAA, Curves and Luma+Adaptive sharpening. In game at 1080p, I've got Volumetric lighting and Reflection quality on Low, AA on Medium and everything else High.

Spent 50ish hours with it (i7 3770K, 16GB Ram, Titan X first gen) and it crashed three times total. Before the patch, the GPU was running really hot and the fans were going wild but since the patch, things have been quieter.

That being said, the quality of this port is inexcusable. 60fps the majority of my experience with fluctuation to the mid 40s in heavy areas of Downtown, Southdowns and Frisco Fields. I hope they continue to patch to optimize it because things are getting better, slowly. The game deserved much more on the technical side of things, it's a great game. And shooting with Kb/m and then switching to driving with an XBO controller was sublime. Some of the best TPS combat and driving mechanics in the open world genre, hands down.

I'm getting tearing with every setting I toggle in this game. Vsync on in game? Tearing. Vsync on through the NVidia control panel? Tearing. What's a possible solution to this?
