Mafia 3 PC performance thread

Unfortunate to hear that the game still don't run very well. I guess I'll still keep the 30 fps lock on.

I'm playing at 50hz/50 fps and is as perfect as 50 fps can be. Doesn't goes under 50 driving or shooting. Obviously settings are not maxed, but this game is not night and day between max and medium.

Ive got an overclocked 390x and 3770k. Is it advisable to aim for 1080p/60 fps or 1440p/(whatever frame rate here). Is the visual bump from 1080p to 1440p worth it for the performance drop?

YES! $22

This product can only be activated in the following regions: Europe (inc UK), Middle East, Africa

<^- Is in the US....oh.....nm :*(

For what it's worth, it's just an activation-level restriction, so you can use a VPN to activate the key and then play the game with your normal IP. Valve has thus far only cared about VPN usage when it's to aid in cross-region purchasing on the store or the activation of region-locked gifts specifically.

Any way to remove the blur? I messed with the AA settings but it still looks pretty bad.

Game doesn't render at a subnative resolution does it?

You people with 970s. What setting are you playing on?

I tried 60fps @ medium presets with long wierd stutters while driving and drops to about 45fps. Then tried 30fps @ high presets but even that felt stuttery with drops slightly below 30 while asset streaming.

I guess i just have to pick my god damn poison?

Is this game forgotten or what??
Does anyone have any kind of info are they working on and planning to release more patches for the PC version?
I can't believe that ppl played and finished this game in this state because it works so, so bad for me. Why aren't they talking about it or giving any updates about the PC versions?

No season pass content has been released yet, so i'm sure there will be some kind of update coming. I have little faith that it'lll ever be fixed though.

I had to give up on it as the constant stutter (even at 30fps) gives me a headache about about 15 minutes. Never found a way to smooth it out.

Installing 1.8GB patch on Steam rn. Let's hope it's not some DLC crap.

Edit: Nope. Still 20fps while driving on both Medium and High. Plus stuttering. Performance is the same.

What's your specs? Settings?

It doesn't run well but nowhere near that bad.

I wrote the settings. There are only few options in the graphics menu. First is everything on High, middle is everything on Medium, and last screenshot is everything on Low.

My specs are:

R9 280x
i5-4460
8GB
SSD

Yeah, what I meant to ask is specifically the v-sync setting. It looks like you got double buffer v-sync on so that it locks the frame to 30 whenever it's below 60fps and to 20 whenever it's below 30fps. Do you have v-sync enable in game? In driver setting?

Also what's your GPU and CPU utilisation in game when it's dropped to 20?

It works the same, with or without v-sync. There is no difference. FPS is NOT locked.
It's just around 20-25 most of the time. And i just realized that it drops to 15-16 in some areas while driving. Also it stutters... a lot.

This is after 3-4 minutes of driving on High settings:

Hmm, the graphs seem fine. Looks like your CPU is holding you back.

The 280x does about 25-28 fps at launch when not CPU bound and the game definitely runs better now than at launch so I guess you can either upgrade your CPU or hope that they spend time optimising it further. Highly doubt it will improve much on that front though, considering they are working on new contents.

Is there a fix for frame pacing issues at 60fps? I can get 60fps with a GTX 970 with a mix of low-high settings, but the game seems to become jerky sometimes, I think it's related to frame pacing...

I like the look of this game but holy shit driving through the city is just ruining my framerate. GPU (980ti) doesn't seem to be too busy but CPU (3570k) is in the 90s all the time.

Haven't messed with all the graphics options because it's one of those annoying cases where you can't chage settings ingame but is there a specific setting that's super demanding?

Edit: It's nowhere near as bad as some of the posts above me indicate, it seemed to go to like 45ish fps during the day while driving. The drive after the initial Haitian mission seemed to go a little lower framerate wise.

Framerate cap aside, there are no settings that have a notable impact on CPU usage. I'd imagine the game's appetite for CPU resources is at least partly why it was originally capped to 30fps.

Yeah I played around with the settings a bit and boy CPU usage doesn't give a shit lol.

Wonder if that'll eventually be "brute-forceable". I'd like to see how the game performs on an OC'd Ryzen for example.

Does the game benefit from i7s over i5s right now?

Somewhat. In GameGPU's benchmarks, the i7s (2600K, 4770K, 6700) performed around 30% and 20% faster than their i5 counterparts with regard to the minimum and average framerates, respectively, though the 6700 pulled ahead of the 5960X for the top spot.

Guess I'll try a 30fps cap for now and go down the annoying route of figuring out the best combination of driver, ingame and RTSS settings that works best for this game to not make it a stuttering mess. My initial try didn't seem too promising frametiming wise though.

Pre-DLC patch released a couple of hours ago seems to have switched game's SSAO solution to NV's HBAO+. At least it says "Ambient Occlusion (HBAO)" in the options now and there's the DLL in the game folder (wasn't there prior to patch).

Can't say that performance or image quality changed much but then again I just did a quick drive during the rain and night so may have easily missed any changes.

So did the performance on this ever really improve since launch (other than the removal of the 30fps cap)

Having just finished the game yesterday I honestly don't understand what's wrong with its performance. Image quality, sure, it's pretty bad and there are lots of bugs. But as for performance - I've been playing at 45-60 through the whole game and I'd say that it's running pretty good performance wise.

It will be. Couldn't get a locked 60 with a 6600k and a 1080 (at 1440p, admittedly, but resolution being more GPU-dependent I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same story at 1080p).

I need to try again now that I have a 6700k.
