Recreational weed is legal in four states, and medical marijuana is legal in another twenty, including the one she's in. For all we know, she has a card which makes it legal.

And if she doesn't, if she just took a toke at a concert, well, I absolutely can just turn my jead and ignore that.

Kinda crazy it even needs to be rationalized. She's a teen. At a concert. Festival no less. It'd be weird to NOT try to duck out and take a toke in the bathroom or something.

At least she isn't vaping.
 
If I see anything about this on my fb feed, I'm just going to unfriend. Especially with know they've underage drank. I know who these people are.

This is the biggest non-issue there could be. The only argument that could be made would be that Malia Obama should serve as a role model. - to which i'd say that displaying the responsible use of recreational drugs that are slowly being legalized throughout the US, could actually - in some way - be considered being a role model :P
 
She'll be fine. People will be outraged, and people will be outraged over the outrage, but it won't affect her or her long-term prospects at all.

Meanwhile, thousands of less fortunate young men and women will have their lives ruined because they were arrested for possession under the laws that her father is upholding. There will be no one advocating for them. No one to say that it's no big deal and they were just kids experimenting. They won't get any second chances and they'll end up in jail for years, while this will be just an amusing footnote on a Wikipedia page for young Malia.

I hope she doesn't waste the opportunity she now has that many others wish they had.

I wonder how the climate will be in November when the weed prop passes in California in November. Lots of people who are in jail because of possession {(large amounts, but still). Having a presidentail person talk about weed would be great, but she might be better off ghost writing a children's book first to test the waters.

Are the laws for smoking some pott really that harsh in the US? That what you are talking about sounds more like punishments for drug trading.

Pretty dumb of her to do it in public but I can't say I care all that much if an 18 year old kid smokes pot. It's something a lot of 18 year old kids do.
 
Not a good look secret service let her do that.

No harm no foul though. She's too rich for it to ever be a problem for her.

It's not the secret service's job to babysit the first family, only to protect them.

Damn that would be a good plot for a tv show. Freaks and Geeks but with a presidential family.
I'm more concerned by the fact she could get away from secret service's protection than she smoked. What if a deranged asshole would have gotten to her? That's a bit reckless for someone as important as her.
Given than nothing serious happened, and I hope the SS learned their lesson, I don't think this should be as big an issue as it should be.

Hey Daddys government arrests tons of people for weed. Many people are even serving life sentences for repeat drug offenses. I bet all of them are poor.

The government considers weed a schedule1 drug.

Smoking weed is no big deal. The problem is the hypocrisy and our two tiered justice system.

So you are responsible for your dad's job and responsibilities?

I just don't see how a person, whose only relation to the government is that her father is in it, is being a hypocrite.

Nobody answered me earlier, but people really have to spend time in the prison because they take drugs and are otherwise not involved in trafficing, etc?

I don't blame her at all. I am criticizing the hypocrisy of our government.
