My governor has pardoned more people than the president has commuted. That's good that Obama has addressed our overcrowded prison system, and used his executive power to reduce sentences, but it is undeniable that he has supported the schedule 1 status of marijuana for more than 7 years.
It is the DEA who determines the legal scheduling of each drug, whose head is assigned by the president himself. The president has been asked several times about rescheduling marijuana now that states are legalizing it, and in every given example he has shot down the idea of reducing marijuana from its schedule 1 status. We're not even talking about decriminalization abroad, we're talking about changing the federal government's scheduling of marijuana (no it does not take a wizard to do that, the DEA can reschedule a drug without a congressional vote)
Here's my problem with your analogy, if we refuse to hold the people in charge of these laws responsible, then we'll never make any improvements. It is our duty as voters to call out the flaws of each and every elected official, even the ones we like.
"I don't find druggies attractive. I don't think Obama's daughter is an attractive young woman. Not like my daughter. I find my daughter an attractive young woman."
