It wasn't the best choice, mainly because of where it was done, but a misbehaving or rebellious teenaged child is a normal thing in an American family. It will be handled as a family (which sounds serious, but it really isn't) and that will be the end of it. Some people will try and make political hay out of it, but aside from the usual suspects I believe most people will approve of this being handled as a family matter.

That's not how "breaking the law" works. Otherwise speed trap cops would need a paddy wagon. We have these levels of law breaking with most offenses not being a prison sentence. A picture of someone smoking a joint is not evidence to convict for prison time. Sorry to burst your bubble.

She broke the law like someone doing 90 on a 75MPH highway broke the law. It's decriminalized in Illinois, so it's a ticket. If you're seen by a police officer. Otherwise, meh. Also, we don't know if she has a medical card, which would legally permit her to smoke in Illinois, as well.
Anyway, even if the above WASN'T true, this is a big fat meh. Teenagers smoke weed. So do adults! And it's not like she was ripping dabs and acting like a zombie. She took a couple puffs of a tiny joint at a concert. This is a non-story.
Finally, the folks who are saying it's a double-standard are a bit misguided. Malia Obama, last I checked, is not involved in public policy, and as far as we know, Barack didn't roll her a to-go joint before she left for Chicago (though damn, if he did, I would pay a thousand dollars to see Barack Obama roll a joint), so this has nothing to do with him.

It's a bit of a different beast now. The touring version stopped in '97, and had a revival in 2003, but since 2005, it's been in Grant Park here in Chicago. It's easily the largest music festival in the city, and one of the largest in the country. This past year was particularly nuts because they made it a 4-day festival rather than the usual 3.
