I completely agree with you here. Kishimoto should have spent time fleshing out the other villages during Part 1. The only info we got on any of them prior to Part 2 was from Zabuza/Kisame about the Mist. Prior to the Kage Summit Arc, Lightning was the only village we had seen anything from at all. He even had a golden opportunity to show these countries during the Chuunin Exam and instead made them all look like bums whose ninja couldn't even pass the first part.

We heard abit about Cloud trying to kidnap Hinata and Sand stuff but since the Sand are allies now they dont count.

But yea not much about the other villages.

My Dissapointment is that the mindfucks i was hoping with these revivals aren't really happening :( . We still have more to go though.

You know, I was discussing the exact same thing with my sister - that Akatsuki was kind of killed off too fast. What would have been awesome if just like how Pain was the false leader of Akatsuki, Madara's Akatsuki group wasn't the "REAL" Akatsuki. This makes even more sense considering that hardly any of the Akatsuki members knew of who Madara was or what his goals were. The 'real/ Akatsuki would be the ones that know of Madara's actual plans, a group of 10 or 15 new, badass characters that could be leaders of platoons in the war. This would also flesh out why Madara is so confident in the pieces that has. The way it is now, it's almost like Akatsuki was an afterthought. For example, no one really is excited by Kakuzu's ability because it's like "been there, done that"

And yeah, I agree with you about the One Piece point and Impel Down. New characters, and they didn't even fight, but we know we'll be seeing them in the New World down the line.

About this, I feel the same way. I loved how Naruto came onto the scene, it was like exactly what I would have wanted in his reappearance. But after he got pinned down by Pains chakra rods, it went downhill from there. The fact that Naruto forgave Pain was truly annoying, but worst of all it took the weight off of Jiraiya's death completely.

This is one thing I'm iffy about - the comparison between how Sasuke feels for the one who died in his life and how Naruto feels. You know that with everything that Sasuke does post-Itachi's death, it is involving Itachi or for Itachi. Whereas with Naruto, you feel like everything he does...is for Sasuke. Not Jiraiya. Has Naruto even mentioned the Pervy Sage since the end of the Pain fight? What the hell is up with that?

Last but not least, the fact that Pain was on his high horse about "THE PAIN OF THE WORLD CAN NEVER END" and then 5 minutes later "Oh, I understand what you're saying, student of Jiraiya" and then resurrects the entire village (this was lame as hell too) made absolutely know sense.

I think that 'real Akutski' idea is a good one. Oh well, sigh.

As for Naruto's motivations and such, I can only think that Sasuke is Mr. Revenge/Avenge so Naruto has to reflect the opposite. He has to be understanding and compassionate to be a good leader and either bring Sasuke back to the light, or show Sasuke he chose the wrong path before he dies. Pain had an ideal based off of his experiences in life and felt it was more true than any one elses perception of the world. He openly challenged Naruto philosophically during the fight and by the time Naruto finished his discussion with Nagato, Nagato felt defeated and was therefore willing to concede to Naruto's philosophy. Or, I could be giving Kishi entirely too much credit.

The Cloud stuff was so inconsequential that I didn't bother listing it but yeah I did forget about Sand(but they're a lame and horrible village anyway).

In any case, I'm not arguing about the quality of the battles, I'm arguing that these chapters ARE developing the plot as a whole and ARE necessary to illustrate a proper large scale war. You guys can be disappointed all you want in who's fighting, but it would be ten times more retarded if it was just the top class ninja wiping out thousands of warriors. You'll get to see the fights you want in time.
And I believe focusing on this war, the way Kishi has, is not the way to go about it. We are able to understand the scale and severity of this war without seeing a bunch of a random battles. But really that's just the tip of the iceburg in terms of what has been lacking recently, too much for me to want to go into.

Things are boring. No, I don't want Naruto/Sasuke just mowing down hundreds of faceless ninjas either. I just want this whole war or whatever to get over and done with. I think we got the point several chapters ago.

Toriko
A shame it's a short chapter (but good though and not whole lot of bromance), a little perplexed by the ending blurb
"very end of Komatsu's life" didn't he already have a near death experience in the beginning with the puffer whale fish or am I just interpreting this wrong?

Now that we're slightly on the subject I was wondering.

Are there any good Guro mangas that are worth reading?

...I guess Tokyo Red Hood? It's pretty gory (but in my opinion than not so much as Gantz or Waitaz stuff) and sex scenes involving
a loli
. If you stick with it, the story does really pick up 3/4 when you learn about Red Hood's past. From what I have read thus far, Waitaz stuff...is ridiculous torture rape porn and Shintaro Kago is kind of surreal, weird, dark humor stuff I guess. I think it was Memory of Others that reminded me of a Chris Ware comic (little snippets of past or occurring events juxtaposed with what else happening, extreme close-ups and pan-outs). One of his tamer comics, "Fetus Collection" you can read on mangafox.com

Wow, after scrolling through those exhaustive expositons on Naruto...perhaps its beneficial that I read it only once a month and in 4+ chapter chunks. I thought Naruto was back and the manga was even better than ever (and people hated the Pain arc?

KHR 328!
Thus far my third favorite sequence of panels this arc! Tsuna's smile!!!!
tumblr_lhii01Jpwx1qbxqfpo1_500.png

And then serious Tsuna, three epic Tsuna panels in one chapter, phenomenal!

I am so glad that the Yamamoto Daemon fight turned out in an unexpected manner and that the arc continues for a little while longer. I think the last chapter had me concerned that Yamamoto defeating or being defeated by Daemon would be a terrible way to end the fateful encounter, and that she would need to end it in an unexpected way....which she delievered and even ensured, through the powerful looking grotesque Enma that I may get my Tsuna x Enma fight after all!

Im so glad I picked up reading this phenomenal series naught but 4 months ago, love it.

I honestly have no idea what the fuck is going on in Claymore.

I don't think most of the readers know either.

Naruto

As for the pain fight the ending was kinda out there (pain's ideals suddenly change due to "talk no jutsu", revival jutsu)

I don't really mind the stuff that's going on in Naruto right now. I think the premise is a bit botched in the sense that there wasn't any build-up of the secondary characters, particularly the Konoha teams but I think Kishi's been handling it pretty well off this blunder. It's nice seeing other villages and it's nice seeing the other characters.

Thinking about it, if Kishi came up with some other progression, it'd probably come out as hammy or contrived. I just wish he would've talked more about the world setting in part 1 like someone said. That would've been really cool to hear about all these crazy ninja (past and current ones) and then get to see them in part 2.

The Evangelion manga starts back in April. Maybe Sadamoto will finally finish it.
Or maybe we'll get a trailer for the third (new) movie, and this is just a temporary tie-in...
(they also created a Twitter account for the movies a few days ago, so...)

Nowadays the abilities given to characters...are more plot devices...the reason that we get to point A to point B with really no detail. That fight with the Gold and Silver brothers and darui was a good example of that. The items were hokey. I mean, look at the last chapter:

"even though we didn't mention it until now, lets get one of the mystic rikudou items to the battlefield at the speed of light! with a special requirement that happens to fit perfectly with Ino's mind switch"
I'd really like to know how they captured the Hachibi again and again with that thing, too, now that we've seen how it works. *cough*

The whole element thing in Naruto, really, is just it's own form of generic beam spam, ala dbz, bleach's cero, etc.
It was supposed to be Kishimoto's answer to Hunter x Hunter's Nen, just like Akatsuki was to the Gen'ei Ryodan. Kishimoto's Togashi-envy isn't working wonders for him, unfortunately...

Even the dark monster thing kind of looks like Gutts! The author must be a fan.
Mori and Miura became friends back in high school, actually.

I guess it was too much to just hope GE would end now that the plot is resolved.

Katekyo Hitman Reborn:
Unexpected turn of events, but a good chapter. Seems like things are transitioning now, and there are more questions than answers in regards to Byakuran's appearance. Hibari just sleeping through that dramatic encounter was great.

New Prince of Tennis:
Good to have some downtime after so many epic matches in a row. The pillow fight stuff was amazing and hilarious. Looking forward to the starters finally showing up.

Tomehane!

This is surprisingly good. It's pretty funny, the character's are very charming and it turns out calligraphy is a pretty interesting topic to base a manga around.
Have you read Barakamon? It was mentioned in OT2 a while ago and it's supposed to be fantastic and heartwarmingly hilarious.

Yup and I like it a lot. It doesn't have the in depth calligraphy discussions that Tomehane does though. It's more like Yotsubato, but that certainly isn't a bad thing.

Miyori no Mori

Excellent stuff. So much of it reminds me of Igarashi Daisuke's work, especially the artwork. I hope Kotonoha translates the sequels.

Kono S wo Mi yo Volume 1

Do all of Taku Kitazaki's manga have weird quirks like the magic birthmark on the main character's ass? They kind of make the manga hard to take seriously. I can't really complain too much though, his manga are great either way.

Someone translated it? Nice.

Most his recent manga have quirks like this. Cupid no Itazura 1 had a guy that would lose all of his virility (and thus no sex for the rest of his life) after 7 rainbow balls were ejaculated after orgasming. Cupid no Itazura 2 had a girl with a disease that caused her aging to reverse and the only way to stop it was with fluid exchange usually by kissing. His latest manga is this one with a mark on his ass that kick's women's sex drive into high gear. All of them a really good manga and use their quirks to look at relationships and etc. He's a really good author in that regard because no matter how silly it is most of the time, he usually gets his point across.

Since I've started reading Piece, I've really fallen in love with Hinako Ashihara' style of storytelling. I've gone and bought other stuff of hers that I could find, and just yesterday got and read The Hour Glass (story about a 12 year old girl that has to move back to the country with her mother after her parents divorce and having to adapat to that new life, until
her mother commits suicide
). It was pretty damn good, with good development of the characters, relationships that move on at a good pace, a good sense of drama without going overboard and likable characters.
The choice of moving the story on a year after year basis really helped with getting the reader feeling like time was moving and the characters were changing.

Probably the thing I liked the most has been that of the 10 volumes of the manga, 8 were for the main story, and 2 for extra stories, which helped build even more the lives of these people without making the main story feel too stretched.
Wish more shojo manga were like this.

Toriko

Haha wow.

"damn! that pyramid's huge.. damn!! it's not a pyramid, but a tower under the sand!
damn!!!! it's not just a tower but a huge castle?!"
no way anyone expected this. That the pyramid that was built up for so long is not even a fucking pyramid, but just the tip of something far bigger.

Toriko really knows how to be awesome in building its setting. This is what, the 10th time now that I've completely been floored by a setting in the manga.

Sket Dance

I started coughing from all the laughter. The trip is so good.

And where the fuck is Roman in all of this? Especially due to all the Bossun fangirlism going on.

Spoiler pics got uploaded and holy fuck at Nakai. Jesusssssssss
I don't even remember how Nakai got to be a bad guy.

He was a sympathetic character for like 95% of his panels and then he just randomly one day was being a prick to Aoki for no good reason. And apparently he's now the fattest fuck in the universe, and probably an even gianter dipshit.

:lol :lol :lol

I thought Ohba and Obata overdid it with his patheticness so to make it okay they're making him a badguy I suppose.

Even though for the sake of his dignity he shouldn't, I'd like to see him try to take shots at Aoki so that Hiramaru can punch him in the face.

As many things as Kishi does horrible, thank god you guys aren't writing it because you would have Naruto and Sasuke fight and then in one line reveal that the alliance defeated Midora's army as an afterthought.

A much better option than building up characters in one line as an afterthought and potentially dragging out this arc.

There's been absolutely no investment to any of the characters prior to this arc for me to care, it's a damn sad state of affairs when I want to see Sasuske and Naruto to come onto the scene so we can near this arcs conclusion already.

Take the Sasuske retrieval arc in part 1, Neji, Shikamaru, Kiba, Chouji, and then to be backed up by Rock Lee, Gaara, Temari and Kankuro (puppet dude?). All these characters had enough investment in them prior to the arc to make it an awesome ride throughout with the Naruto vs Sasuske climax at the end to put icing on the cake. That investment in characters just hasn't been there at all since part 2, to the point where I'd care less about them now if they did a reboot of that arc at this point. Heck with all of Naruto trying to ride Sasuske's dick all the time I'm actually dreading the Naruto vs Sasuske fight. :(

Squall ASF said:
Have you guys ever seen a movie with large battle sequences? It doesn't focus on the main character every second, it shows no names shooting eachother, stabbing eachother, etc. This is to flesh out the war and impress on the audience the severity of the situation. You can't focus on a few people and get that same impression.

Which is why One Piece's rendition of a war flows so much better, everybody was fighting someone, no-one stayed on the same opponent for too long and it actually felt like defensive lines were being breached etc.

Naruto crosses Sasuke's path...

Sasuke: ...Move
Naruto: Sasuke!
Sasuke: ...
Naruto: Sasuke! I've been looking for you!
Sasuke: ...You're in my way, I heard that Itachi got resurrected with his soul intact. That's all I'm worried about right now. I'll deal with you later.
Naruto: Sasuke!
Sasuke: ...
Naruto: Please, don't you want to end all of this fighting?! Come back home to us!
Sasuke: *kills self to join Itachi*
Naruto: *kills self to join Sasuke*

Genshiken

Just caught up with this. And, even with an almost entirely new cast, it's still as good as ever!I went in cautious because of its hiatus, but, luckily, that was for naught. The chemistry is alive and well.

BTW, if someone could help me out with a recommendation, I'd much appreciate it. I'm looking for something along the lines of "Onani Master Kurosawa." Not in shtick of course, but drama, romance, and progression/conclusion. I've read Nodame, Beck, and D-ASH.

Air Gear
We could have done without that flashback and maybe make an attempt to forward this nonsensical plot

Well, decided to read some of Reborn, and so far it just seems to be a comedy, with reading upto 21. I am just going to assume it develops more depth as it goes, but the characters right now have a really odd relationship with each other, especially the "Enemy" characters.

Prepare for massive disappointment in Reborn. The beginning is cool, but then it turns into a complete clusterfuck. I haven't read it in months. At least the art is nice.

On the contrary, I thought Reborn got better as it went on. Sure, it did get cluster-fucky, but I loved it. For reference, I watched the anime then read the manga.

And yeah, it starts off as a Gag Manga for sure. But you'll know when it becomes Shonen Battle.

I think it stays like that until the 60's then it takes a HUGE different direction. I loved the early chapters, the character interactions were so awesome! And so much dying will Tsuna and 5927! It was to die for!

Sometimes I do miss all the comedy, but it does creep up ever now and then at least.

Also, that All Manga Reader for chrome makes reading the stuff so much easier, since it puts all the images on one page.

As you can are aware I'm re-reading Jojo, favorite, off the wall, etc. etc

Anywho it's funny as I read Steel Ball Run part 7 and you can see that transition of when Araki's art style changed again. The most noticeable is how he redesigned Funny Valentine. When you take a look at him from his appearance to latest you'd initially think two individuals drew them. It reminds me of DBZ and how it became more angular and defined later on. Another example would be Kubo Tite's work on Bleach as well. As of now just waiting on the latest raw chapter.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

More dog death :( Not feeling part 3 as much as I thought I would, seems like the camp was toned down a lot. Stands are cool though. Musical references seem to be toned down a bit aswell, that or I'm just not getting them, at least there isn't anything as blatant as a character called ACDC or Wham.

Try Solanin or Living Game.

I have absolutely no clue where Nakai is going. I sincerely hope his moment of being a real person was only to antagonize Nanamine further, and not make him seem any less of a fucknut than he really is. But I'm kind of worried that he didn't just go "oh well, his manga's good anyway, doesn't matter how- OH MY GOD THE PIZZA'S HERE" like I expected.

I still hate the fact he's here.

Not just a clusterfuck but it took 300some odd chapters for something to actually happen story progression wise with this succesion stuff and Tsuna is still fucking whinging.

So it sounds like it was supposed to just be a gag manage but for ratings it turned into a battle manga if the writer is having such problems actually advancing the plot.

Then again, how much plot development has Conan had over 15 years?

What?! You didnt like the Varia arc nor the Future arc? I thought all of them have been pretty fantastic! (cluster, what, its the simplest series to understand)

This arc in Kyou Kara Ore Wa!! finally seems to be wrapping up. I'm glad. Don't like Takasaki too much, though at least he's finally coming around, kinda.
