Ok... I read that anne thing really wish I read the post in full. Yeah....

I guess nobody mentioned what it was about or the fact that it is horrific and depressing. Whoops. I can't imagine that being a fun surprise.

Ran to Haiiro no Sekai

So much product placement. :lol This manga is about a girl who is part of a family of magicians. She has power to turn into an adult when she puts on her magic Nike™ shoes. The most recent chapter started with a teacher making some very distinct checkmarks on a test and ended with a guy buying Band-Aids™. It's pretty good though, the art is fantastic.

Beelzebub: What's better than dual wielding pistols?

Quad wielding pistols!

God's Child

Wow, this is reaching new levels of fucked up. This time our noble protagonist
assembles a harem of little boys and has a giant orgy with them.

Then it basically becomes a cult after he kills that boy and let them eats pieces of his ass
:o

Wait what.

Is this the thing by the Count Cain and Angel Sanctuary author or something else?

No, that's God Child. This is God's Child.
Oooh looks interesting.

I don't know how Beelzebub manages to be a typical shounen manga in a generally normal real world setting complete with villain rosters that get updated every arc.

Tomehane!

So good. I am impressed with how they manage to incorporate so many sports manga type events into their calligraphy activities.

The abstract art works well for God's Child. The new chapter was pretty cool. Skinship is perfectly chaste, amirite?

Medaka Box:

I guess Kumagawa's "hundred gaunlets" referred to him having one hundred Minus powers.

Seems like a copy of relief girl. I hope the abilities are interesting at least.

Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai

Just finished what's available... I was making fun of it before, but this manga is actually quite incredible. The art does its job admirably. Lead guy is likable as hell. Meat's cute, and actually coming together nicely. Bizarro mikuru adds to the humor more than I ever thought he would. And, with the little flashback, you're able to relate to the black-haired chick almost over-night. Hell, I actually hit the last page of the most recent chapter and went "FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!" Feels good.

EDIT: It's a light-novel adaptation... no fucking wonder; Toradora. Bakemono. Haruhi. Their strings always seem to hold a bit tighter than the rest. I'm more than tempted to read what's translated of them. So tempted.

Crime Edge

Dresden, I should have heeded your warning. This shit reeks. The art is absolutely horrid. And the plot, so far, isn't putting out all that much more. Dropped.

All I know is that, for new abilities, they've pretty much resorted to grabbing two names at random out of the dictionary and making something up to go along with the result.
And it's working great.

Heh, I think I liked it more than you did. The art didn't bother me--it's got a nice style of its own. In the end it wasn't anything special, but for me, decent enough to be worth reading every month or so, to see if it goes anywhere.

Negima!
The useless nun mage girls turn up and, fuck it I'm out call me when its over.

Sket Dance 136-7
Not as funny as the last few chapters. Will be interesting to see if any of this leads anywhere as far as Saaya or Himeko or the status quo.

Yea it definately went with the drama this time. Should be interesting with this possible answer and the eventual switch to their original bodies.

Interesting I didn't know it was a light novel adaptation. Toradora is awesome, even though I've already watched the anime it's a good read. Haven't read Bakemono but the anime was also a pleasure.

Will be interesting indeed.

I'm guessing things will go back to status quo except we will get one or two chapters of Saaya and Bossun going on disaster dates.

I don't even know why they're still prolonging the uncertainty about Bossun-Himeko. We already reached the conclusion before that that can't go anywhere romance-y.
Though if anything, it seems like Himeko is the only one that is messed up by the fact they're different genders. Bossun is just fine.

Where is Roman in all this anyway

Some mildly interesting reading for anyone curious about the growing Mangafox and Mangastream controversy. It looks like what has been known among scanlators for a long time (that Mangafox is corporate and making absurd amounts of money illegally) is now becoming public knowledge. The author of that post is well respected in the community, chiefly for developing the online reader that a lot of groups use (including us). He is now working on linking those readers so that they can cross-talk, which would theoretically create a network of interconnected readers independently run by the groups themselves.

Three mid-sized groups so far have asked for their scans to be taken down from Mangafox completely.

In case any of you are curious, I'm not inclined to take sides at the moment, mainly because I'm not convinced that anything meaningful can be done.

I don't think anything is going to happen to Mangafox either (I'm surprised they didn't go down around the time Onemanga did). I remember all the nonsense/net drama that went on with that Tazmo guy and in the end I don't think anything meaningful happened to him. The most I can see these groups doing is making it harder for Mangafox to steal their work.

Roman in any form other than a quick cameo would "eclipse" the entire School Trip Rhapsody. It's better to leave her out of this story.

her "presence" is way too big imo and would lessen the drama trying to be built here.

God Child: What. The. Fuck.

Before Dawn and the End of the World
Untitled: I fucking loled when i realized this was a "oneshot" all by itself. You'd think it'd be easier to mimic Hemingway using pictures instead of words.

Before Dawn: Sometimes I wonder if Asano actually writes out an outline or a script for his stories or every panel is just made up on he spot. Art is gorgeous as always, like the Makoto Shinkai of manga.

Afalfa: I like it when he writes stories about kids, their personalities are always radiant. I wish he'd stop cutting off stories just when the characters get really interesting.

Sunday, 6:30PM: More stream of consciousness stuff. Except this one kind of loosely ties into Afalfa. The ending is sweet, unlike most of his other stories.

A Day in the Melancholy Life of A-ko the Daydreamer: Haha got you. You thought he'd write someone who was genuinely happy once in a while? Asano must be constantly depressed.

How to Spend a Day Off: I don't even know anymore. It's like he only has one story and just retells it with different characters and I don't care, it's enjoyable anyway.

17: I like this one, it doesn't mire too much in "OH GOD NIHILISM" and had a laid back conclusion.

What a Wonderful World: The first bit reminded me of 5cm per second, what with the letter and the train and the mono no aware. If Makoto Shinkai and Inio Asano ever met, the world would implode from infinite sadness. The twist was surprising though, and I'm glad no one got raped or sold their body or died or gave in to the apathetic despair plaguing Japan's 20-30 youth.

Tokyo (on girls): All his main girls have that exact frumpy yet cute rounded face with medium length silky black hair. Goddam man, there are other kinds of girls!
I'm a big fan of this type too, I must admit.
.

Tokyo (on Asano): Inio Asano writes a story about a lonely mangaka (who looks like Asano with a beard) who writes overly sentimental stories that are popular among youth. I'd say "mind blown" but that wouldn't be very honest. I'm already used to self referencing in manga and anime, I expect more!

Still probably the best of the bunch.

The End of the World:
utena3.png

Wait, wrong one.

I was happy Ozawa got a story... then it stopped in the middle of nowhere. Blueball total.

Snakeman and the Great Space-Time war: lol.

I guess it's fair to go against Mangafox if they're making money off scans but I think the same should be for any site making money off of these. I don't follow any of the drama though so maybe they are the only big one making money.

He should have thrown in a zombie apocalypse, that's been proven to work wonderfully.

Alright, who were those people who wouldn't shut up about Steel Ball Run?

I've done something. You'll find out what in due time. Never let it be said that I don't listen to you guys.

You say zombie apocalypse and all I can think of are bouncing titties. Thanks HotD, thanks a lot.

(Asano and HotD would be 100% flashbacks about people with their loved ones right before they zombify)

Halycon said:
lol wtf.

Everything better with zombies.

The best thing about reading that one was that I had no idea the zombies were coming. The first volume is a bitterly realistic story about a guy trying to become a mangaka and I thought the whole thing would be like that, but then I hit volume 2 and there are zombies everywhere. Best bait and switch ever.

Anyone read a manga called Yankee-kun to Megane-chan? Is it any good? I kinda looked at some pictures of it and it looked pretty nice.

It's by an ex-assistant on Fairy Tale.

So it's like a copy of a copy of Oda's art style. You can clearly see the influences, and it can be pretty rough with the faces.

That said it is entertaining for a few chapters, until you realize every single chapter is going to be the exact same thing and the characters never get anywhere.

Read Beelzebub for the superior manga about delinquents in high school.

I'm already reading Beelzebub so I got that part set.

The art is mostly what got me to notice it. I think I will just read few chapters and see if the story holds up. It had 21 volume releases so I thought the story was something decent but I guess not.

Its not as bad as Halycon is pushing but the story is moving slow (it reaches a point where one of the main points of the story is completely derailed for another one.)

Emanon: Bittersweet romance is bittersweet. Not much else to say. A nice "what if" story.

Halycon said:
Reading Emanon now. Makes me wish Endo wrote another fantasy/sci-fi story. Reminds me I have to catch up with Meguru but Eden was just so much better :x

Wait Endo didn't write Emanon did he? Or did it just remind you of his work?

Yeah, Emanon just reminded me very strongly of Endo.

I wonder when Seinen developed its paneling conventions. If you look at Saikano, Asano's stuff, Endo and manga like Emanon you can clearly tell they all build their pages similarly. Definitely not afraid to just have entire pages without a bit dialogue, or using a panel solely for holding text. I guess it's the logical conclusion of the prevalent themes in seinen, but it's still interesting to note the difference in structure.
