But my question was always, why did Sakura do that? I mean, granted she's not the brightest bulb in the Naruto universe, but what was that supposed to accomplish other than just serve as Kishimoto trolling shippers?

Let's not forget, the current arc hasn't been any less fucking dumb. First, Tobi has a factory filled with sharingans and Danzo has like 12. Despite the fact that Orochimaru, who was the height of competence for evil ninjas for the entire series, couldn't get a single fucking one. Then Kabuto magically resurrects every fucking villain, almost all of whom have closed storylines and whose abilities to use kekkei genkei while dead warps reality within the universe. Then Naruto has yet another fucking flashback with his parents, who apparently all live in his head (my guess is that the Sage of the Six is in there too), in which it is revealed that he actually just has a magic family just like Sasuke and all his abilities just come from being naturally better than everyone else, which somewhat destroys the premise of the entire series up to that point.

Granted, Sasuke isn't any less shitty. But we're going to find out that he's been enthralled since the Five Kage arc, for sure.

I think it was a desperation attempt so he could forget about The Sauce by using his feelings for her and discarding her own for The Sauce.

Many characters that we were looking forward to seeing were underutilized, your protagonist became a complete bitch (understatement), your story went total clusterfucky, you killed your best villain and replaced him with a moron, you've somehow made your heroine character even worse, you dissed the shit out of the protagonist's love interest, you've done a subpar job revealing histories, and now buildup is not doing so well.

I think people are a bit too harsh on that part. Yes, Naruto is a gigantic pussy for doing it, but it's for semi believable reasons. Pretty much everyone had given up on sasuke and were planning to kill him, even Sakura. He refuses to let anything not go his way, that's part of his character, and this is him doubting that he can save sasuke. Also, though the situations are a bit different, I'm suprised that no one calls Sasuke out on doing the same thing when madara told him of the Uchiha massacre. Granted, he had just been in a battle and woke up, but still...

Hmm..I don't think a dear friend leaving the village is comparable to your family getting massacred and being told your brother was forced to do the bidding, including seeing your parents murdered right in front of you.
