It never would have been as satisfying without the long tense build up

That's why Ippo works better in volumes than in chapters

Absolutely. Ippo is paced in such a way that reading it chapter to chapter is frustrating as hell.

I miss the days when I had just started the manga and I had 850 chapters to catch up to. I used to power through it 100 chapters at a time.

Bakuman
As soon as a started the chapt I knew that Crow would be the manga he wanted to end. Really not sure about it. I buy Eiji wanting to end it - I just don't really see why the others would want to stop him. It'd make more sense for them to respect his vision and be awed by it.

Right, how much more badass would it have been if Fukuda/S&S were just like "Cool, man. Have fun with your next serialization"...and walked out. Then they continued on with their lives.

These new manga/light novel sales made me wonder, how come the light novel scene is very weak here? I mean it's pretty much nonexistent and even for popular series like Durarara, they are still lagging behind and are unorganized.
Light novels are much tougher on the translator and you need either a proofreader willing to work just as hard or a translator with really strong English skill. Furthermore since it's not a serialized format, people don't keep coming back week after week.

Proto-Merry:

I still like Advent Cirno - it's just a nice, cute doujin with action. And it still has better art than his actual series, Yumekui Merry. :p

Soul Eater 57

Amazing chapter. Very good sword play.

Why is Maka the main character of this series? Black Star is way more interesting and badass... every chapter he is in, I delight.

What exactly are you asking for? Those anime all exist.

Fist of the North Star
Akira
Project Ako
Dominion Tank Police

Also this isn't the anime thread. This is for just manga.

Sorry!

I know they all exist, do they still make anime like that or is at all like the new stuff which is a lot less 'blokey' ....... sorry I am not sure how to phrase it lol.

Also current animation pales in comparison to those older titles.

I'd try asking in the anime thread.

Have you seen Spriggan?

I think he's asking if they still make badass anime instead of all the moe shit we deal with these days. The answer being no.

There's still some stuff, but it's pretty much the same situation as with live-action movies: in the 80s you had Commando/Terminator/Robocop/Predator etc.. while nowadays there's barely any decent action movies.

On the plus side there's a lot of that older style anime out there and most likely you still haven't seen a bunch of it.

Yeah, sadly, the only recent badass anime I can think of is the Hellsing OVA series and Basilisk.

EDIT: crap double-post

They still make oldschool style manly shows every once in a while. Mazinkaizer SKL is very recent and incredibly manly. Shin Mazinkaizer is also recent and way better.

Wrong thread for the discussion though. In the world of manga there is still plenty of that manly 80's stuff because a good portion of them are still ongoing (Berserk, Golgo 13, FOTNS spinoffs, Jojo).

Sun-Ken Rock

All caught up. This has been like an RTS or Suikoden style RPG in the sense Ken keeps gaining territory. Now that he has a casino, where does he go from here?

Ippo

Oh boy low point coming. I think mentality he's disappointed in himself. He never really got angry like that and did what he did before. Look at him after he realized what he did. Were probably going to see issues of him going on and on about being weak in that sense. So yeah it'll be boring on his end. Upside? Takamura action and Itagaki ownage will be our rewards! Woli fight was still way to drawn out in my opinion.

Sounds like some Kumi/Imura bonding w/ Ippo for the next issues! Think anyone of them will make their move on Ippo?

But still, can't wait to see Miyata's reaction to this match!

The fuck? Was that bird imitating the death screams of someone? Whose hair/glasses/teeth were those?
I believe the bird is using its mimicry to lure away potential prey.

Which means at some point it encountered another group of students, discovered that screaming like a girl attracts shounen retards and that shounen retards are tasty!

Ippo

So finally heard the fight is over so I just skimmed through it all...I know this is wishful thinking but what I'm hoping is the reason Ippo is so depressed at the end is not because of his anger but because he has realized he is too good for Japan and must take on the world. He doesn't want to cripple and kill people like he did this dude.

*cue Ippo emoing for the next 2 volumes as he prepares to beat more fodder* :(

Ah, I wasn't sure.

What's the consensus on Zetman? I came across it randomly and thought the first few chapters were good and moved fast so I was thinking about reading it. I've read that it loses some of its originality later on but is it worth checking out?

I was confused by that too. I hope for a change of pace the group deals with the birds quickly and can stay in the area. I would guess the traps will come into play to make this possible. The group just can't catch a break.

No idea what the consensus on Zetman is, but I think it is great (I'm on volume 14 though, gonna get 15 next month). I only had a bit of an annoyance with it when the focus shifted on Koga, since I find Jin to be more interesting, but the story and action was still good (and the focus shifted back on Jin soon enough). Plus it has some really great designs.

Not to mention a lot of the light novels people would insist on, i.e. Bakemonogatari, are hopeless to translate since they rely heavily on Japanese wordplay.

I always assumed that translating light novels is easier because it requires less people since it's pretty much just a translator who is capable enough and maybe someone to proofread. But you do bring up a good point about it being a long and tedious task.

I just wish the current translators will organize better. I really hate going through shitty Livejournal blogs just to read about Durarara

GE 83

I felt confused from the first panel, but that was normal, I had forgotten to read chapter 82 (which wasn't all that good).
Initially I thought the girl in chapter 83 was the tennis club girl, but reading chapter 82 I found out she's a new girl. A new girl that doesn't lose any time to mess with Utsumi.
She might be a little strange, but the development in chapter 83 is just unbelievable.

That's the thing about ippo I gave up on the romance side of it. The only romance we see is for boxing . Seriously though he can pursue a relationship with 3 women. Nothing will happen. Wow just realized that must be killing some lifetime fans. Anyway miyata will probably have a few close ups of him looking and stuff as usual. I really want him and itagaki to go at it.

Can someone tell me what chapter of Soul Eater had Crone fighting some Russian Death Scythe? I believe that's around where I left off and if I can figure out where that is, I'll pick this series back up.

Fairy Tail

I like seeing Gildartz own but Blue Note is a disappointment, didn't even put up a fight. Going to call BS on Ultears words, bitch is lying. Poor Gray getting manipulated.

Chapter 82? Crone goes to Moscow in the middle of the chapter

Thanks, will keep reading and see how it gets. Still wondering what was up with the beginning of the first chapter. Does the entire manga take place in a flash back? :lol

On a side note any idea how scanlation for the series is? Up to date or behind? It would suck to read through and then wait months for a release.

Lets lagoon ch1-9
I haven't seen much LOST but this kind a reminds me of it.
Interesting story about a guy who's stranded on an Island.

GE ch83

Another pathetic attempt to stretch this manga

By recycling an old girl into a new random girl and throwing her into the mix just to waste more pages.

I don't even know why I read this thing anymore. I ask myself this after every chapter, every one. I need a doctor.

Just drop it.

Sometimes I think you guys are masochist when it comes to these types of manga. Not like I'm the one to talk, I'm a masochist when it comes to Sasuke arcs in Naruto.

I would, but it's not like a chapter of manga eats up a significant amount of time. To keep reading a series that I've started becomes almost impulsive at a point, "just one more chip-esque"

Thanks, I was a chapter or so past that but it was a good refresher and now I'm all caught up I think, assuming 87 is the latest chapter.

Soul Eater

Pretty interesting that the Shinigami might be the source of madness. Not fully sure how Kidd came to that conclusion because the translations I read leading up to this were lousy and a bit confusing as a result. I'm assuming just because he was witholding information from Kidd, that's what aroused his suspicion. End of the chapter was cool, Crone is freaking nuts! Can Medusa really be dead? I'd say no way, but that would defeat the point of Crone making that sacrifice to complete the Black Blood. I guess just her being able to give up all her attachments gets that done though, so Medusa could technically still be around.

Did you read from Red Hawk or the other group?

It was some mangastream.to Was different than the usual MS, was black screen instead of white. Didn't go to the homepage, googled Soul Eater chapter 82 and link was on the first page.

Kuragehime volume 5

The story is moving in a direction I'm liking, although for some aspects it's very silly.
I mean, Inari starting to fall for Shu is quite lol worthy.
The Amars are still very socially inept, but it looks like they are getting better at dealing with the outside world (thanks to the promise of meat), and especially Tsukimi, while still fleeing from reality, at the end of the volume she gets forced to face the truth when Kuranosuke tells her she's a cute girl (and then leaves because he still can't accept he's fallen for her).

Dunno, but it probably wasn't MRI's. I wouldn't trust some shady .to site with proper translations!

*shrug* saw the mangastream name and went for it. If your site isn't blocked from here (work) you win! and when the translation is that shitty, I lose haha Oh well, caught up on it so I can read new chapters wherever now. I want to say Redhawk doesn't have some of the older chapters so it wasn't a viable option. Sucks that the main MS doesn't carry it anymore, so convenient to have one site have nearly all the manga you read. Only current series I read that they don't carry is Soul Eater and HSDK. I want to start a new series though so that will change. Have to wait until I pass this stupid IT certification exam before I allow myself to get caught up in a new marathon.

KHR 340

Could finally read it. I think Spade has the most unfair ability Ive ever seen in any series. Six clones, essentially 72 ring powers, six times stronger, and damage reduced to 1/6th effectiveness? Nufufufu indeed. Enma better make it out as well, this is the second time hes been in the most perilous of situations this arc. Im ready for a new arc. heh.
