Bakuman

Got a good laugh out of me.

I mean how obvious can you get about the Death Note callback. That's exactly what they did with L.

Armed with this knowledge I can't NOT expect them to think of one of the protagonists managing to kill the other and continuing from there. It's a really good scene, but then.. well, you know. It's suicide.

And yeah, fuck that with Eiji just switching enemies like nothing and then have the readers eat it up. But then again, Zombie Gun was never interesting so I guess it doesn't really matter anymore.

Bakuman

I don't understand. Tons of series prosper even when the antagonist is established from the start and stays the same. Killing him off in just the 5th chapter sounds super dumb.

Strongest Man Kurosawa

Yep... that sure was an ending.

This is probably Fukumoto's most depressing work (though Seizon is comparable). While my life probably won't be as shitty as Kurosawa's, I can definitely relate. Whether it be in terms of inaction, luck with women, or any other daily life troubles, this manga really makes you empathize with the main character even if you can't relate at all.

This isn't some idealistic work where good things happen for the convenience of the plot. I mean some do, but it's rare. If this was any other manga, the whole plot would have changed once Kurosawa learns about it has strength and it would turn into him succesfully purusing a boxing career or something. But nope, for the most part, situations play out exactly how you would expect in reality; poorly. If something can go wrong, it WILL and if anything good comes out of it, it will be a short lived victory.

I need something happy to read now :(

Really if he makes her sexier I'd be disappointed because she had that plain jane thing going on and that's been ok in my book (& to be honest highly refreshing).

That look has been gone long before the timeskip. In Marineford she looked the same as all the other women.

Goddamn it Negima has sucked assholes recently

Wait, weren't you the one saying it should go back to the style in the earlier chapters? Now that's it been there you don't like it?

I never noticed if you read Hayate or not, but if not, well.

Fairy Tail 261

I thought it was a fun chapter. All that was needed were the usual antics with Gray. Though at least we finally saw Gajeel and Lily. Im vastly intrigued by Mashima's musings. This next arc is going to be mindblowing and explosive if he is truly going to try to have most characters weve encountered thus far show up in the great games and such.

One Piece

I know I'm late in the discussion but I think Jimbe will join simply because he's probably already been to the New World and knows his way around there. The Straw Hats are always oblivious as to what's ahead just gaining a little info about what's coming up next (which serves the purpose of letting us, the readers understand what's happening)

We can't have anyone who's already been to several islands in the New World joining which I would imagine a Schikibukai has done.

Bakuman 157:

They are really insulting the intelligence of Jump voters in this chapter. The fictional Jump readers only had 4 chapters to get used to the first Antagonist in Zombie Gun, and by simply introducing the "real antagonist" the votes increase that much and Reversi's drops to third? Unless the two protagonist in Reversi really sucked in chapter 4 and Giri introduced new bikes again it's just too big of a shift to be taken seriously.

As far as the Death Note comparisons, I think Reversi's situation with it's lead characters is worse than Death Note. With Reversi, the two characters are "locked in" because of their demon powers and the way the plot was written. With Death Note, only Light had that problem. L and the other antagonists introduced in the series before and after L's death were much easier to replace.

Fairy Tail

I'm sorry but that final panel had me laughing there for probably a minute. Phew.

Hopefully nothing happens in the camp. I really want them to get to the games just as it is right now. I just like game/olympic stuff in general. Plus, no matter how silly the final game will end, the bad taste will be contained in that final game, which is pretty neat.

Eh, the "real antagonist's" entrance was probably just REALLY flashy and that's why it got so many votes.

This island is going to turn out to be some sort of 'Jurassic Park' created for Real Miina by her crazy "I'm rich as fuck, so I can" Grandfather, in her loving memory.

Possibly, but the islands been in the making long preceding her birth if what Yarai said about the computer is to be believed.

I've decided to re-read every chapter since Togashi came back from hiatus a few months ago and they really are top quality.

I can only imagine what HxH would be like if Togashi didn't take so many breaks. IMO it's always been the best Shonen going. I prefer it over One Piece and it's definitely much better than the other 2.

It's such a shame it's been on hiatus so frequently.

What if the current "real" Miina is a clone... :O

My crazy idea goes a liitle something like this:-

Crazy old Grandad, in his early years is besotted with grandchild, who has a wild imagination and passion for extinct animals. She keeps 'em all drawn up in her little notebook.
Grandchild/heir passes away.
Grandad sulks, possibly because he's lost an heir.
Sulking Grandad with shitloads of money builds an artificial island/graveyard for granddaughter.
Sulking Grandad with shitloads of money orders company to delve into cloning research.
Grandad clones Granddaughter. Might explain why current Miina has amnesia...
Grandad then decides to clone animal drawings and dumps them on island/graveyard "for his little girl".
Cloned animals go 'Jurassic Park' on everyone's arse.
Crazy old Grandad uses his influence to make sure no one knows of island.

^ So how the plane accident account into all that?

Rival organization set out to expose the island by placing the girl directly in harms way. Duh.

Really though, it's probably going to be along the lines that it's related to her family in some manner. Whether or not that whole deal means anything significant beyond "Yup, we made this shit" is another matter entirely.

The pilot's in on it. He's part of a rival organisation that knows the island exists. The plane was probably "brought down" as attempt as some dubious kidnapping plot. It didn't crash.

Yeah. :lol

So apparently Kumagawa's getting his own manga. Kumagawa Box meme redeemed? :lol
He'll carry on the torch when Medaka gives it up. I can't wait. :D

Bakuman

I'm going to defend the approach here, and remind everyone of the recent Bleach fuck up. The series was primed to take a new arc with different powers and such, and it was so dull that I'm pretty sure the mangaka got cold feet and gave us the fanservice that we're getting now.

I mean seriously, Ichigo's skeleton suit and powers looked so... meh.

Also on Dragonball. Gohan was made to be the protagonist after the Cell Saga, but it was a massive letdown. Series went back with Goku as the protagonist after a few chapters.

It happens all the time folks, even on TV series. Still you guys are right, done well, it's amazing, but most of the time it just falls flat.

I'm not even sure what was supposed to be happening.

We saw the page of the "real antagonist's" entrance. Now it was only one page and it's impossible to know how flashy the entire chapter was, but based off of that and the comments from Saiko and Shujin it wasn't impressive, at least not enough for that kind of voter change.

You're talking about "mistakes" that got corrected after the mangakas tried them out for a lengthy number of chapters/entire arcs and realized it wasn't working. In the case of Bakuman we are dealing with only 4 chapters for two brand new series. Think about that for a minute. A new villain character is introduced and he/she has only 3 chapters to prove they are interesting otherwise they are killed off in the 4th. Apply that to Bleach or Dragon ball and think about how those series would have ended up. Freeza and Cell wouldn't have made it past their intros.

That wasn't necessarily his entrance, we missed how he killed the brother after all. All we saw of that was the smoking corpse, but not how it got to be like that.

Still, I'm pretty sure it's just one of those "only Eiji would've done that" things. He just though whatever he had in mind for the antagonist wouldn't be enough to compete with Reversi, so he killed him off for someone he considers a better antagonist. It gives him both flashiness (well, we can only assume that though, but it's Eiji) and shock value, which likely helped with the votes a lot.

Fujimura-kun Mates

Yep, this is exactly how I pictured a harem series if every single person except the main character is batshit insane. Will keep reading.

there isn't any indication that jimbei has been to the new world. i don't think it was indicated that fisher tiger went there. pretty much all the shichibukai hang out on the grand line and take out up and coming pirates that become threats.

crap i messed up and posted instead of editing. anyways i forgot that jimbei hanged out with the whitebeard pirates so he has been to the new world. oda can solve this by having luffy take a different route and one that jimbei would not know.

I liked the Fullbring outfit. And the sword, while not as awesome as Ichigo's bankai form, looked miles better than the warclub.

I think Kubo wussed out a bit too early.

Nisekoi 4

It makes me physically ill to read this with how cliche the misunderstandings are.

Yeah, reading Bakuman and how it's supposedly so hard to get published in Jump and then..... reading this. I'm thinking it's not too difficult to impress the editors. Their literally isn't a single original idea in the whole comic, and it isn't particularly well executed either.

Darren Shan vol 1

Yeah, this is awesome. Expected coming from the guy that did Arago even if this is based on a novel. Kind of a depressing end to the first volume, but great nonetheless. This potentially has everything I would want out of a vampire battle shounen.

You might be right, but I'm giving Ohba and Obata the benefit of the doubt here seeing as they are in the japanese manga business. Maybe they know stuff that has happened that we don't.

I was waiting for this manga to end before reading but if its a tragic depressing reality based thing :(

Mostly I read manga to escape reality for a while and enjoy heroes and happy endings
I've read some sad stuff before but they are never as enjoyable when there is no victory at the end

Bakuman

Is making the main antagonist an evil twin brother really that AMAZUIONG WAOHW!!?! ?

I get the general idea of what Bakuman's trying to say, but sometimes I swear, their idea of what's considered "genius" is the most lowbrow expected thing ever.

Punpun new volume. Great Tohoku Quake gets a mention. The story is going somewhere I didn't expect. A great chapter in the middle about manga. A character makes a return and some favorites get a chapter to themselves.
