Came here to post this. I change my PWs regularly and use a different one on every service but I'm still worried.
Seen this "I was hacked, unban me" card to many times.
Why buy more PlayStation stuff?
This isn't a problem with the "digital future" as you call it as much as it is a problem with Sony's currently outdated policies. Before the industry goes digital, Sony, MS, and Nintendo need to fix their policies and stances on stuff like this.
Exactly.I think the PSN ID is the unique key, which is a terrible way to design a database
Can't watch the vid, but did he use game sharing to someone ?

Well you can also deactivate the console from your PSN account on a PC.

I formatted my PS3 and deactivated it, which is what I think you're supposed to do, but I wonder if he skipped a step or if game sharing is to blame, like Canis lupus mentioned?
I'm not saying this guy was innocent, I have no idea about him. But two factor authentication would instantly remove any "it wasn't me!!" issues because the person logging in would also have to have their phone/be logged into their authenticator.Seen this "I was hacked, unban me" card to many times.
I'm not. If someone REALLY wants your stuff they will get it. In these type of cases the "hacking" is either someone trying to BS their way out of a ban for something they did, carelessness or in PS3's case game sharing your info with others.
Sony really needs to make two-step authentication happen. I keep hearing about all those FIFA hacks and it makes me fear for my account(s) a little.
He then went through his entire bank statement, disputed ever single PSN purchase he ever made with his bank, created a new PSN account and rebought everything with the refunded money.
:lolBuddy of mine sold a PSP a couple of years ago over eBay but he forgot to wipe the memory card and deactivate the system from his account. Weeks later he notices charges on his credit card via PSN that he did not make so he called his bank and told them to reverse the charges. Instant flag and ban of his account and Sony essentially told him to take a hike because there was no way to unban it so he lost all his purchases tied to that particular PSN account.

Why re buy everything? I love the PS but if that happened to me I would just switch to Xbox. Fuck supporting a company after they threw you to the curb.

That's not really the issue here tho. People are (or should be) aware of that, and realise that with digital distribution, once the distribution service goes down... that's it.Digital distrubution, you don't own shit.
It's going to be ugly when psn/xbox live/steam go down eventually (and they will eventually)
The sooner they do the uglier it will be.
yeah, seems legit
it's like in every MMO ever, guy get's banned, opens a topic in the forums and flames about the company how he's totally innocent and didn't do anything
Sucks... points for Nintendo though? I had my original NNID account hacked and lost all my digital stuff on it, but one phone call and a week later of it being sent up the ladder and I got my account back and totally unbanned.
Could be, but just because some people lie doesn't automatically mean everyone is a liar.
What makes this noteworthy IMO is that this guy seems quite involved with the Playstation brand and was even on The Tester.
If you watch the video, you also see that he's not raving and swearing at Sony. The most inflammatory thing is the title of the video. He's not threatening to sue or bashing or flaming them. He just says it's not his fault.
yeah, you're right, not everyone is a bad person (and this is a good thing!),
but since I had/have a bit to do with communities, I know a lot of "complainers" and only the minority of banned people are innocent, but the majority of banned people will tell you how they are innocent, very nice and haven't done anything wrong.
and if it is an F2P game, they will also tell you how much money they've already spent.
and tbh I haven't watched the video, becausework

Well, with regard to Steam:
I'm sure it helps that there is no shortage of third-party content servers.

but isn't that the case even if you own the disc? if the system goes down you will just have the disc of games that can't be played.Digital distrubution, you don't own shit.

Does Sony not believe him? Why the fuck aren't they reversing the ban?
