Marathon |OT| A Shell of its Former Self.

I get PS and Xbox folks as my randoms all the time think I'm around lvl 130 now.

MM last night was a bit longer than normal (UK) despite the player base being around the same as the last few days so i think it was a little messed up or they changed something.
Thanks, I hadn't thought about that.
I'll give it another try tonight but if it doesn't improve I'll probably jump off and come back to try season two when it launches.

There it is:

Locked the fuck in for most of today (yesterday lol) to bang out the last few levels. This will be hard to top as my GOTY, see you in S2 Marathon 👌 Now gimme sleep 💤

Any one shot sniper in Marathon should act like the V85 Circuit Breaker shotgun. Hold to fire, but when your holding, everyone within a 100m radius should hear the cannon being locked. It should also be rare AF

I propose whenever Men_in_Boxes Men_in_Boxes is in your lobby a large arse shaped target appears above his head that the whole lobby can see and the first person to one shot him gets a jim'll fix it badge.

(Yes i finished work today and I'm drunk but its a solid idea).

What's the secret to leveling up faster? Feels like I've played a decent amount (150 hours maybe?) and I'm only level 76 or so. Want to make sure I get to 100 in season one.
What shrike said but also... Go to the "agent" tab in each faction and make sure to read those bullet point lists in the side column. Tells you everything about what actions, salvage & events go towards that factions XP gain.

Cant stress enough just how strong the XP progress gain is when you do a main contract. The contested ones can be a headache but as long as you dont peeky-blinder one contract on one map for 5 hours straight you'll start having a stronger XP flow. Always shake things up for yourself and you wont feel brick walled.

Rook runs help a lot in terms of credit retention but as a rook or runner, just making an effort to regularly exfil instead of wandering "cause loot might be around" will be a sixth sense that'll save you hours of time and XP.

30. I have achieved all 6. They need to start handing out that gold salvage the tight fucks, or we strike.

Roll call of shame time. Anyone beat this?

You're a monster. But I envy you. If I could I would've put in those hours as well.

What shell is your go-to? (myself I almost only played Recon, information is king!)

Medic, Thief and Rook. But I do not play optimally i just play for fun. Most of my play time is on Perimeter because shooting folk is fun and they usually have the best loot.

Honestly the game just fell at the right time loads of time off work and the Mrs being away. I love a grind and this game excels at that its just so good and ill not be convinced by the nay sayers otherwise. It has its faults for sure but if i commissioned a game this would be the one i would make no question.

Going to be tough to top this as my GOTY, gaf be damned. Not no lifed a game like this since D1. Boarderline unhealthy.

Links to what you are reading please.
He suggests making the game more difficult for high skill, aggressive teams.

I know I've read a number of other comments saying the same thing. Pretty sure someone making a similar video had the same idea.

It's definitely hitting the mainstream now...just a few weeks after I diagnosed it.

I've done most of the priority contracts, think I only have 1 faction left where I haven't finished them. Will just try and spam the regular contracts now.
Use your re-rolls as well. I usually re-roll the exfil ones if i dont get the objectives on the first try. No sense waiting for 144 when you can get a chance at a fresh 432.

You think a scrub is going to watch a 28 minute video detailing subtle sound queues and unintuitive peeks and rotations? He's just going to whinge about his pants being constantly wet because all he eats is shit.

Those long re-routes are such good advice. 90% of my double kills or wipes involve a wide/unexpected rotation. Posting up in a battleline is suicide. I wiped an entire team posted in the 2F of complex by running around the POI then double jumping off a railing through a narrow open window and cleaning house.

Nobody is watching a 26 minute 1v6 video. Everybody is just going to quit playing.

Such is life. I'll leave happy with the friends and memories made while Marathon existed. You'll return to your lonely search for purpose in the next live service game that you'll inevitable drop when it gets difficult because you're too stubborn/lazy to learn. A scrub is bound to a perpetual cycle of failure .

Rotating and repositioning is good advice for any game not just Marathon but it only gets you so far. Smart teams will not all look in the one direction, they will be spread out looking in full 360 degrees. Downed players can be revived so quick as well so you have to assume the entire team is back in play when you try and do that.

Rotation helps to get the downs in the first place. I also find it annoying that the ease of respawns forces everything to be done at a rapid pace. One teammate hesitating while the other flanks immediately turns an easy win into a trip back to the lobby.
