Marathon |OT| A Shell of its Former Self.

Truth/Lies 6/6 is completed!!!

After my earlier runs/fails I took a small break and ran a bit of Rook to clear my head. Then I dove back in. First match, very early I was fortunate to pop a helpful loot pinata that upgraded my blue shield to purple and gave me a bunch of extra gear. Continued on and hit all 3 of the panels, by this time someone had opened Pinwheel. Made my way up to Pinwheel and found that some helpful soul had hit the two buttons for the command wing so I was able to immediately go in. Went in, got to the room and the initial wave of enemies that spawned were giving me trouble. Kept trying to down the purple enemy and more blue shields would keep spawning in. Eventually I ran low on time and realized I wasn't gonna finish this so I headed for the vent and made my way out, and with a few seconds to spare I made it to final exfil.

Next round. I had my improved loadout thanks to the helpful pinata and got to work. Unfortunate spawn all the way up in Airfield, so I decided to hang back a bit to let folks move to wherever they were gonna go before I made my dash for Flight Control. Made it there without much fuss and no other players around so I did that panel easy enough. Made my way through the underground to the Processing panel without issue. Hit the exit panel and another player immediately rushed in. I Bullied them good, but their loot wasn't obtainable as bots were everywhere. Made my way to Dormatories and found another corpse along the way for some more health/shields. Got to the next panel - nothing. No mission marker on it, and I couldn't activate the panel. I ran back and forth around the area for a while trying to figure out if I was crazy and if the runs had blended together and if I might have already hit this one. After 30 seconds or so the mission marker finally appeared and I was able to hit the panel for 3/3!

10 mins left, I realized I didn't have time to make it to Orientation and find the boxes to get into Destroyed Wing, and I hadn't collected any green keys, nor had anyone opened Pinwheel yet. I decided to make my way back to the bag of the first runner I killed at Processing to see if they may have collected any. Fortunately the bots had all despawned and I got to their bag - 2 GREEN KEYS! Put 'em in right there and took out the first wave easy enough. Hacked the panel and hid in the tiny room next to it. One bot walks in, I clear them out. Next a shield bot walks in, I shoot... and shoot... and shoot... they don't die 🤔 . They walk out of the room and the hack completes, the barrier is down! I shoot the vent - nothing 🤔 . I make a run for the vent and am halted in place. Fuggin' rubber banding! A few seconds later I'm back in the tiny room and this time I'm able to shoot the vent and get in. Make my way up, hit up the panel in Drone wing without issue. On the way to Destroyed wing I hear turrets targetting someone else, but I don't have time to worry about them. Hit up the second button and make my way back. Run through all the bots in the core and open up Command wing. Now it's on!

Under 5 mins remain. The initial wave of bots in the final room don't spawn until I'm deep in the room, but I managed to clear 'em out quickly. I learned my lesson from the previous run and went straight to the panel before more blue shield motherfuckers can spawn - we're in the end game now. With what I had originally brought in on the previous run + the loot pinata, I had a couple of smoke grenades, a bubble shield and a chem grenade. Plus a TON of ammo for my bully and a LMG that I never bothered to touch. Also popped a signal jammer to help reduce aggro. My silenced Bully also likely helped to reduce the rush of bots to my position. Between the smoke and the bubble, I managed to FINALLY finish the mission 9 seconds before the final exfil triggered and killed me.

I FUCKING LOVE THIS GAME!

I did not know this lol.

Running with randoms man...lol. 2 lads yesterday in Dire Marsh, spawn and they both take off in different directions. You can guess what happens next. The eponymous "CLUNK" sound of death x2.

1 free Cryo kit a week!!!! wow thanks Bungie ill remember not to spend it all at once..........

Item Economy
One free Cryo Archive Sponsored Kit can now be claimed each week.

Fixed an issue preventing Rooks from spawning with the updated 6 Depleted Shield Charges and Depleted Patch Kits that sponsored kits now have.

Combat
Weapons
WSTR Combat Shotgun

Increased damage from 78 to 85.

Reduced critical multiplier from 1.15x to 1.05x.

Slightly reduced the rate at which damage falls off.

Added 75% damage bonus against AI targets.

MIPS Slug Converter Prestige mod

Fixed an issue that caused the slug to hit geometry when aiming around corners, vents, ladders, or nearby cover.

Increased critical multiplier from 1.15x to 1.9x.

Reduced projectile velocity and increased bullet drop.

Reduced aim assist cone radius by 48%.

User Interface and Experience

Fixed an issue causing the reinforced shield to use the incorrect base shield icon. The reinforce icon now correctly shows a "+" inside the shield.

Fixed an issue causing the Armory HUD to disappear when hovering over offered items.

Fixed an issue that was causing an empty space to show instead of a grid in the Overflow inventory screen.

Contracts

Outpost

Fixed an issue that could cause Runners to get stuck behind barriers in the Drone Wing while completing the Mida Truth/Lies 2/6 contract.

Zones
Cryo Archive

Added vent covers in Biostock and Preservation that prevent early access from the hub until security clearance 2 is unlocked. Security clearance 1 is needed to open the vents for those who infil on the Biostock or Preservation side.

Developer Note: Our previous update began the process of ensuring teams cannot bypass the security doors separating the wings from one another without appropriate clearance, this patch continues that effort. We'll continue to monitor and be on the lookout for more instances like this to ensure we keep spawns in a fair state.

Fixed an issue that prevented scan terminals from reliably revealing battery locations on the map.

General
Fixed an issue causing inconsistencies when using the push-to-talk toggle setting for crew voice chat on controllers.

Stability
Fixed an issue that could cause players to receive an error and be unable to join the game when starting their run.

Localization
Fixed an issue causing the C.A.R.R.I. commendation description to display incorrectly in some languages.

Ewww shotgun damage increase? Didn't we just fix that weapon? Embark levels of balancing right there.
They made it completely useless and essentially nerfed the Rook in the process, this is a slight (welcome) move back in the other direction in my opinion.

Good. Rooks are a cancer that need cleansing.

Does it still take 3 shots now or is it back to being OP like before? I haven't looked back at the patch notes from when it was nerfed but I really hope they haven't gone too far back the other way. It's not meant to solo players as a primary weapon, it's meant to be a finisher weapon.

Hey now less of the rook racism. I'm something of a Rook myself.

Is this something you made up to help you sleep at night lol? Shotguns - in ANY FPS - are made to kill very quickly at close range, whether it's 1 shot, 2 tap, whatever, that's the point of the weapon. While I agree there seemed to be an overreliance on the weapon the fact is they over-nerfed it to the point of making it feel useless, hopefully the latest balance patch makes it viable again but not OP, let's see what happens.

Sounds like a skill issue, you should be *excited* every time you see a Rook lol. Had a run with randoms on Outpost last night, came upon 3 Rooks in Pinwheel, killed them all, all 3 were carrying purple materials, good times 👌

Anyway, level 93 now, all factions except Sekiguchi at VIP status, will chip away for level 100 before the season ends while I now try to juggle Hades 2 (got the true ending yesterday), Pragmata (my physical copy finally arrived today), Saros (arrives Saturday) and Crimson Desert (a game I will play throughout the year in chunks), someone help me freeze time 😭

The range of shotguns made WSTR's place as a finisher/weapon of last resort pretty clear. Massive damage, tiny range, low mag, and a long reload vs the other shotguns with more traditional FPS shotgun ranges and larger mags. Pre-nerf WSTR's issue was it being a highly accessible weapon that could 1-shot white/green shields and 2-shot everybody else in a game with a lot of close quarters combat where smoke and invis are easily accessible. A WSTR could be modded to hold 3-4 shots meaning a single player could rush and wipe a team. A squad pushing with WSTR basically won unless the other team also had WSTR to counter them. Its stats made the other shotguns pointless since they are rarer and require mods to get their ROF up in order to get remotely near the TTK of the vanilla WSTR.

The Misriah is closer to how Bungie has always positioned shotguns; 1 round per second and 1-2 rounds to kill. Guns that reward good timing and movement with massive damage vs simply running up to players and deleting them. The updated stats for the WSTR seem to reinforce that design. A WSTR can still get you a free kill on any level of shields with the proper mods. The change means people only get max 1 kill before reload which makes it situational/a finisher vs an auto-include. The Misriah is the choice for players who want the ability to down multiple players in 1-2 shots at close range.

No, whether a weapon is of first or last resort is situational. A sniper rifle is a weapon of "last resort" in CQC while a shotgun is clearly the "primary" choice (personally I'd still prefer a Bully and haven't used shotguns all that much). A shotgun is a weapon of last resort at a distance while a sniper rifle would be ideal. I would agree rarity is an issue, they should probably swap Miz drop rate with WSTR, that alone would change the dynamic significantly. The point still stands, a double-barrelled shotty in any FPS will ALWAYS be the strongest shotty (or weapon in general) and meant to reap in CQC. If a team gets taken out by a solo player with a shotty then they absolutely deserved to die because they are trash, I don't care what mods they have on the gun lol.

Its still the strongest for a single target. Players just dont get to stealth, rush, and tap flick a squad anymore. There's no subjectivity about it. Who would bring a 2 shot gun with a long reload as their primary weapon in a team game? It worked when it was overpowered. Now its been pushed to a healthier place as a finisher/backup.

Removing this is a bad idea
At this point in the season I don't think it matters. I don't use the free kit list its pointless for me. Although i get the appeal, should be a permanent more fleshed out thing come season 2.

I'd like to see a free kit Cryo for the last couple of weeks.

Edit:

On a side note I calculate the chances they will "delay" season 2 are high. No way they launch Destiny 2's expansion and this right along side each other.

End of June is my bet, technically not a delay but no way its coming early June, so ignore the above lol.

I'd die for some clarity. I need to decide how hard I push from level 82.

For a regular MP shooter, sure. Not something like this where you can't respawn in 3 seconds flat. I mean you're supposed to have shields which did nothing (2 shot to purple, yea nah). It was overpowered and overused. Basically everyone had it in their loadout. The nerf was great, you could have shootouts with other guns. It removed the majority of wet fart engagements. Felt way more balanced. Did not see any issue with the changes. Bet it was the Rooks complaining.

Edit - LyricalShrike said it better than me above, agree with those comments.

Have killed my fair share of Rooks too. But ever since I was killed inside the final exfil twice in a row, with less than 5 seconds on the clock, in smoke, by a dirty Rook USING DOUBLE BARREL ARRRRGH they're KOS and teabag now. Run a sponsored loadout like a real runner. Pfft, Rooks. Lol.

If we cross paths I'll remember to drop my rook nuts in your face as your loot gets left behind at exfil.🫖

The more I think about it end of June is almost a dead cert if the D2 update is landing as expected. 23rd or 30th, The latter would my bet if its not delayed past that point.

That's a long ass time away in season terms. Game will have almost no players by that point so they better come out swinging big if I'm right.

Who would bring a 2 shot gun with a long reload as their primary weapon in a team game?

You seem to be obsessing over the word "primary" so let me help. You have two weapon slots, depending on the engagement/situation at hand one of those 2 guns will become your de facto "primary" weapon. Now if you're coming into the match with *only* a shotgun? Then you're retarded, that would apply to only coming in with a sniper rifle too, there's no subjectivity about it...lol.

By the way, the same argument could be used against most guns at their default with no attachments, who would bring a 23 round Bully into a team fight? After all, you will need to use most of the rounds in the clip to down a runner, will need to reload to rengage just as you would with the WSTR 🤷‍♂️

Nah man not engaging with your attempt at semantics anymore. My point is clear and I have no idea what point you're trying to make other than that you're mad the obviously OP gun was nerfed. A white bully was never 2-tapping purples either.

Pushing it later makes sense from a marketing perspective. Sooner makes sense for the health of the game since the pacing of this season has been a mess. I think the wipe shows what the playerbase actually is. Every seasonal game from PoE to Rust trends similarly downward as a wipe progresses. The game is probably OK if we see a good hunk of returners or an injection of sales.

I couldn't care less actually, like I said, barely use shotguns. You quoted me, not the other way around and I agreed on some points, run it back lol

If you're not regularly stockpiling that top row of grey salvage, you're seriously missing out. Will retain a better wallet value by not blowing 4,200 on a baseline of 2 shield charge stacks and 2 patch kit stacks per run.
I know i just wasn't aware that the base stuff counted as rods, wire, drive & salvage etc.

Absolutely ravaged by that Sekiguchi quest. Can't get the fucker done.

Had an amazing run on Outpost though. We killed 7 Rooks in Pinwheel! How many actually spawn in? Could hear them on comms making plans together. Then at exfil there were 2 more!

Got out with some good goop in the end.

I think it's twelve. I've killed nine or ten and I've heard people say 12 so it's plausible.

Way too many i think, especially more they are teaming up

Rook Army has added a second clock to Outpost. You need to finish the other teams/get in Pinwheel before Rooks spawn or else the map turns into a shitshow. Camping the drone wing lift can be fun since they tend to exit there after feeding. Its a good way of getting some easy pinwheel loot delivered if you didn't make it for the initial rush.

MM sucks today. I've tried multiple maps and queues without any popping after 5 mins. Something must be up since the playercount isn't unusual.

What's MM?

The PRC always bang on about 5,000 years of history while basic concepts like "PTT" and "Teamplay" elude them. I really don't understand how somebody could be so stupid as to 1. Take a free kit into Trios 2. Run away from the team (bonus points if its two chinese players who head in opposite directions. Do they not know solos exists? I kind of want to take a look at the Chinese localization to see if something is unclear. JP/KR players seem to be fine.

TheDarkPhantom TheDarkPhantom Pulling the locked container while we were fighting your teammates was an interesting play. Can you give us a recap? I thought for sure you guys knew we were there when I accidentally pre-fired a bot next to you.

Had no idea you were fighting teammates obviously, randoms, no mics and we started off engaged in bot battle so you firing at a bot wouldn't have made a difference either way lol. A better question would be why you were in Quarantine? We spawned next to it, what's your excuse 😂 At least you got your dick hard 👌

I wanted to loot Maintenance, Quarantine, and do the boss. Taking Quarantine early makes doing that easier when there is one fewer team on the map. Free kit mode doesn't have heals so its pretty safe to rush when you hear a lot of early shooting and claymores going off. I got to do all three!

You should always post somebody on the roof of quarantine for a few minutes to make sure people aren't rushing you from other POI. Esp in free-kit mode where teams are farming kills for contracts. Losing the roof turns it into a deathtrap because the TAD is usually outside and the exits are easily covered from the roof.

It is what it is, I don't play Sponsored like Seal Team 6, save that for Cryo or regular runs lol. Speaking of which, I thought you previously posted you weren't really into Sponsored, guess you've changed your mind 😆

Anyway, just had a great Sponsored run, took out the Fire Warden too 👌

Yeah yea I get it. You have an image to maintain. Hopefully you'll get a chance to run it back.

Sponsored is the only queue that is popping for me. I spent ages in every other queue before trying it. I still think it's awful precisely because it encourages situations like you experienced.

Tried to play last night on PS5 with crossplay on and console only but it took far to long to find matches.
I just hit level fiffy so console MM over level fifty must be screwed.
I turned crossplay to full and started getting into more matches but noticed that I'm pairing with PC players.
It seems most console players are jumping off the game when it hit level fifty and above.

I get PS and Xbox folks as my randoms all the time think I'm around lvl 130 now.

MM last night was a bit longer than normal (UK) despite the player base being around the same as the last few days so i think it was a little messed up or they changed something.
