Marathon |OT| A Shell of its Former Self.

Are people just able to take full gear into sponsored Dire Marsh? Just killed a guy (completely oblivious and crouch walking out in the open) who has a blue backpack and green weapons with tons of ammo?

edit: wait never mind im a retard, I went into the normal queue, not sponsored.

I tried soloing cryo without friends. Console players with open mics, green shields, and didn't bring ammo/consumables/grenades/real healing. First console player melted by walking into an ambush, I downed the team but traded, second console player ran away without telling anybody. Not a single call-out but I could hear his kids making noise and the persistent clack clack of his controller. The squad self rez, killed me, then easily killed my last teammate.

Who comes to cryo in greens?

People rush POI for weapons before fighting other players. It's pretty easy to get comped within a minute or two. Removing a team made it worse since it's significantly easier to hide. The rest was probably picked up across the match.

Oh yeah, Vault 3 clear:

Load in with randoms, no mics, guy has Vault 3 key. Play smart, we follow his lead since it's his key, never encounter another team by moving around the perimeter of the map (I've had multiple successful exfils this way), profit 👌

Very impressive. I think I've gotten out of Cryo maybe twice out of my 10 matches I've played there.

Kind of baffling Bungie haven't said anything yet about looking intop performance issues on that map on PC btw.

And another one, this time we killed everything that moved lol

I'm now at around 12 successful exfils, most of them with no mic randoms lol. I can't speak on PC but performance has been flawless on Pro throughout my 220 hours including on Cryo no matter how hectic things get.

I just looked the amount of hours I have on this compared to other games around that time and yeah... the track record I have with games is not so great lol.

The one at the top is Bloodhunt, a VTM battle royale game. Loved it but died on its arse also.

Whats up with random duo's queuing in with a template then expecting me to sit in a corner with them for 5 minutes then exfil?

Yeah, no we'll be fighting our way out I assure you. Ill be making as much noise as possible you inconsiderate fucks.

Queue as a duo and quit wasting peoples time or ask nicely and invite me on the key run.

What makes it uninteresting to you?
It's not entirely the map itself. I actually think the map looks great graphically and mechanically, and the PvE that you experience in there is a lot more fun than the 3 recruits and a grenadier you verse on the other maps. The issues are the matchmaking and the engagements being such close quarters exposes a lot of the balancing issues. Have also encountered squads working together so it's effectively 3v6 which is rarely going to work out for us. My squad are level 75-85 and we're constantly vsing yellow geared level 200's that throw 400 grenades, bubble shields and to a lesser extent now running double barrels and the boss weapon. The rushing of your spawn within a couple of minutes ain't fun either. It's partly our fault in that we weren't in Cryo day one memorising layouts and working it all out while everyone was new to it. It's also partly due to my region having such a low player count. The people that were in there day one and are fully geared up are sitting atop their castle and don't want anyone else getting up there. This is the game, but it's also not fun. I can't imagine how it is for new players coming in now, would be miserable.
Have you run it much? I have probably have about 15 unsuccesful runs in total so far
We did run it a bunch over a couple weekends a few weeks ago (15-20 runs?) and we only made it to an exfil twice, both times deleted by another team. I'd say probably half of those we were massacred before or just after leaving our spawn area. Hard to learn a map when you don't even get to see it all haha.

I loved Shatterline back when it first came out. The PvP was fun, and the PvE mode was cool as well. Shame they butchered it and then got greedy. RIP.

Do you feel the same way about Outpost since it works similarly to Cryo (Farm access, open vaults, exfil)?

Nah, Outpost is my favourite map. It can be sweaty at times but at least you can back off, rotate, exit pinwheel quickly if necessary, exfil as soon as you need. Can't really do much of that in Cryo. Cryo by it's very design is full of the most geared, sweaty players which is fine. But queue me up with similar level players, with similar level gear. Don't put me as a level 75 against level 200 full yellow teams. That's not how you retain your players. Some of the mechanics need tweaking as well to protect players in the early (first 5-10 minutes) of a match too. Honestly I think if Cryo was open 24/7 it wouldn't suffer as much from the Lords sitting atop their castle style of play that we're seeing now.

I don't think any game can ever balance around "sweaty" since "sweaty" usually reduces to "playing more seriously than/better than my group". Playing full purple/blues on Outpost/DM/Perimiter is "sweaty" to players who are barely scraping together a blue kit. I think upping the ante on Cryo to 8-10k and limiting equipment would help fix some of the issues . Too many players in greens are queing cryo looking for carries which discourages attempts for those properly equipping. A higher ante would better communicate what you're supposed to be bringing. I'd even be down with requiring blue shields on top of the ante. Grenades/bubbles/self also dominate meta. You can't fight a geared team without a good supply of them. Bungies changes to rarity with bubbles/self-res just punished the lower tier of players since the top players already farmed stacks. Being unable to purchase grenades in bulk also hurts the lower end of the game because the top players are stocked and can afford the purple barters. Cryo isn't the exception. Fighting those guys on other maps is always six quick grenades and three bubbles. Many of them aren't mechanically that good at the game. I can edge out many fights but its an uphill fight when you have to kill a team 2x to properly finish it between self-res and triage ult spam. Equipment should be used to affect fights not decide them.

Our region is just fucked until the playerbase builds up. I'm already running into the same players multiple times in a row. Theres an aussie rook is who an absolute menace that rallies the rook army and fights well. Level based MM would make more sense if the grind weren't so high. Only 3% of players have reached level 100 2/3 of the way through the season. We could probably get more natural MM if the curve were flattened so the majority of the pop was matchmaking at max level.

Look what we have here:

Got it from CARRI key template. I've never seen this door opened in all my 225 hours playing this game, must be one of the rarest keys. I haven't seen the Drone Wing door opened either, seen the other two though. The other day I spawned in as a Rook with 3 dead bodies 5 meters away from me and the key room in the basement of Processing open, was able to salvage some leftover goodies.

I'd love to see the inside. Its one of a few I haven't been in yet. Ping me if you want to bang it out.

One thing I have learned from the sponsored loadout mode on Dire Marsh is that the game is infinitely more balanced when everyone starts with the same gear. I'd like to see them do a trial with it on Cryo where everyone pays 5K and you all start with the same loadout. Obviously you can find better stuff once you're in there but that would take away a lot of the imbalance. I know the top players would not like it because it takes away a lot of their power but I reckon it would be worth testing. There is the obvious issue with bringing in keys, etc but they could allow that to be slotted in along with the sponsored kit or some other variation.

Every game is more balanced if both sides are equal. Extraction is about inequality. Do you take cheap gear and play safely to gradually build a stash or do you load up and go for larger hauls. Cryo's issue isnt inequality. It's the relative difference between what a comped trio brings vs what randoms and less geared players bring. Randoms aren't loading up on grenades, bubbles, and self res because the game taught them that bringing gear to auto fill results in getting free kits 90% of the time. Finding a way to cap the amount of power than can be brought in is a more reasonable solution. The amount you can currently bring is enough to trivialize the map once you've stockpiled which is bad for the game. the meta would be significantly healthier if it didn't revolve around who brought more grenades and bubbles.

I find sponsored queue just as imbalanced as cryo. The meta is even more constrained. Loot isn't scattered like a battle royale so some teams always get spawns that allow them to gear up. I usually rush medical cabinets and places where arms lockers spawn at the start. Triage is an auto include due to a lack of healing. Recon as well since rushing is default when everybody is in whites. Some free kits favor some shells over others due to natural synergies. It just feels less punishing to you because you're losing nothing.

The yellow turbo belt mod for the conquest is life changing. The mag goes to 126 and you're basically never reloading once the shooting starts. Its a bit wonky without a team due to the ramp up. It shines with a team where you can pre-fire a flank or lay down practically endless lasers of cover.

60K exfil, good Lord, makes my previous record of 28k seem quaint! I spawned in right near broken wing, perfect. Carefully make my way up and as I'm climbing I hear sprinting in the vicinity. Scope out from the top, no movement. At the 23:00 mark a key room alarm goes off, you couldn't make this up lol, I deduce it's the one at Processing. I wait a minute to allow for any runner in my vicinity to start hauling ass in that direction before opening the door. Only 4 containers, it's literally just a tiny room but oh, the treasures! I went in with purple shields/Bully/backpack plus implants/healing/chips etc, the rest is all from the haul 🥳

Just wanted to say, you're a legend for having that many hours on Battleborn. I liked it a lot, shame it came out too close to Overwatch.

Hah yeah me and a buddy really enjoyed the co-op missions they had.

The pvp multiplayer got kind of stale fast though as we were in a full stack and hardly ever lost... :messenger_grinning_sweat: (guess that's one of the main reasons it flopped as the multiplayer was rather shallow).

Un-fucking-believable

Cryo with randoms, no mics, I go on a fucking rampage with my M77, killing purple shields at a distance scoped, smoking mfs in CQC as they try to breach bubbles with the neutered WSTR. I down once and other Recon downs too, after a couple of minutes our last remaining squad mate revives us both, we regroup, wipe another squad. At this point I'm swimming in purple loot and picked up TWO vault keys. There is one squad left and we are on final exfil, I tell the boys prior to this we need to up our clearance, was reduced to 1 when I died and had my tags taken...

Cue final exfil which of course nobody knows where it will spawn. I open fire on this last remaining squad and give chase hoping they are heading towards their squad mate who found it. He did, they are. And then the above happens...

Now here comes the best part. I get a crew invite from one of the rival runners we just tangled with after the game:

Him: "bro, we could have exfild together!"

Me: "oh, you're the squad that just fucked us at the end?"

Him" "wait, what? You guys knocked us out at the last second!"

Me: "no bro, I got knocked out too, couldn't fucking believe it!"

Him: "damn, must have been the bots, ggs man *laughing* "

Me: *laughing* yeah man, ggs

Pure cinema, would do again 👌

Just got paired with a couple of obvious cheaters on Perimeter. Gold everything and just literally ran straight to every team and instantly deleted them, they didn't even bother looting anything. I mean weres the fun in that?

I reported them but doubt it'll do much good.

At the moment my ranking of maps is

1. Dire Marsh Sponsored (so much fun, make it out most of the time)

2. Cryo (make it out about half the time)

3. Output as a Rook (usually fun except occasionally Rooks will murder other Rooks and ruin everything)

...

4. All other map modes (usually die within 1-2min to a squad of purple/gold shielded snipers)

Agree. I find it one of the most balanced and enjoyable modes right now. Still not a huge fan of the map itself but everyone starting on equal footing is the biggest balance update to date. It's actually the quickest and easiest mode to get a match in my region right now too.

Im pretty sure its a really popular mode. They probably gonna tweak it later to be its own mode

Funny you say that I actually was in a dire marsh sponsored match earlier and got killed by a team that was pretty kitted out when they were finishing me one of them said "no dont worry they wont know shit"

Was kind of strange

Perimeter is the best PVP map.

I actually think Outpost has the best PvP now that the double barrel isn't so widespread after the nerf. You can actually have a decent shootout with assault rifles and various other weapons without worrying about being sniped or copping a shotgun shell to the face.

Perimeter isn't too bad if you stay away from south relay/station side of the map.

South relay/ Station/Columns down to overflow is the best part of the map. I just make a b-line for that area straight from spawn lol. 3 key rooms in very close proximity as well as a bonus, 4 if you count the one at the back of North.

Everyone is usually kitted to the teeth in my lobbies now especially straight after Cryo closes. Best loot in the game on Sunday nights, if you can survive.

I'd anyone on PS5 Pro finding the new PSSR2 update making a difference?
In the settings I'm seeing that it uses PSSR for AA only as it gives you three options.

Was excited to get in a couple games tonight until I actually played this goddamn game because of fucking people who queue into squads with no mic.

I had a great day yesterday and got some really great gear after doing key runs with the boys. I decide to just start off with a Perimeter run in full blue (Blue LMG/Volley/Shield/Core/Implants/Bag, and 4x Advanced Shield Charge/Health) just to get started and try to knock out an Arachne quest.

Neither of my fucking teammates are on mic, and both just run into Station. Sure whatever I'll make it work. We get into a team mate and everybody gets a kill. Other team had some good gear so cool. We push down to South Relay and then one of my teammates pushes into the tunnels. I immediately hear a team and he gets shot at while I call it out as the other team is tossing out grenades. I toss my own back and crack 1 or 2 shields but go down.

My genius teammates decide to use their Triage ult to Rez me right in front of the entire enemy team and then run back up the ladder outside.

I just talked shit to my own team and left the fucking match and gave up my 8K or so in gear and left them there.

Fuck em.
