Mario Kart 8 Info Thread

It's not like MK8 is forced to reinvent the wheel (no pun intended) just so it can be praised and have 10s everywhere. In fact, I'm glad they didn't try to do that because it could have ended in a disaster like Wii Music or something when at first it looks like something revolutionary but at the end is just a rushed gimmick (Even tough, Wii Music looked so bad from the very beginning thanks to that terrible E3 presentation). They play it safe for the most part on MK8 but the changes and additions such as the anti-gravity and the new gameplay mechanics while using it are damn good already to justify a brand new MK title IMO. Plus, all the new tracks wich look amazing, the graphics, the online mode, MKTV, the subtle gameplay changes, etc. Just like The Mighty Poo say: "Sequels are mostly evolutions rather than revolutions"

All I see in that link are screenshots of the stats. What I'm talking about is proof that there is a linear correlation between the stats and kart performance. To reiterate, is a Feather weight truly less than half as fast at top speed than a Super Heavy?

I'd assume they're just relative ratings, not actually proportional to performance differences.

I guess it depends on if you like bikes or not. Inward drifting is just so much more fun than anything in MK7.

I see. Yeah I hated bikes in MKWii, but I also haven't liked drifting, in general, in Mario Kart since Double Dash (I know I'm weird). Hasn't felt as good. Someone told me to use the bikes in MKWii if I missed drifting like Double Dash, but they weren't anywhere close to being similar to me, haha.

And I thought Wario looked ridiculous in it.

Where is the best place to preorder this (in the US)? Dell supposedly has a 25 dollar dell gift card, which I would use toward tropical freeze, but then who knows how good their shipping is.

Target has the keychain... might be worth it.

Should I see if toys r us is doing one of those launch day deals (usually some crazy discount on another game if you buy the game theyre advertising).

What are you guys doing?

#1 for Wii U games

#6 for all a games is what I see
This happens with every major WiiU game. Remember when 3D World was No. 1 at Amazon during the holiday season? Still wound up being the worst-selling 3D Mario to date.

People buy at Amazon, but hardly anyone buys it at retail and it doesn't end up selling well overall.

Just not enough WiiU owners out there. :-\

They better mention that you get a free game in the ads.

First review guys, GamePro - 90%
The advantage of still having printed gaming magazines :D

Too many blue shells :( :( :(

I haven't seen anything that clarified, but can you do the equivalent of the smash bros item switch? Or do you have to play by certain rules, like 'Shells only" or something? Can you do that in normal couch co op play, or only in tournaments?

That's REALLY early for a review.

I wonder how many more we'll get leading up to release.

Something tells me this game will land in the 80's on Metacritic just like MK7 and MKWii.

Not that scores particularly matter. I want the game to be well-received by the press but I remember being disappointed by Double Dash scores only to have it end up being my most played MK game.

With being able to get the Super Horn in 1st place, Spiny Shells shouldn't be all that big of an issue anymore. That, and still being able to dodge them with a Mushroom.

Thing is... you either wait for a blue shell to use the horn or expose yourself to red shells/use it against them.

True. I guess depending on your distance from the rest of the pack, you could end up using the Super Horn to destroy a Red Shell, or just take the hit and save the Super Horn for the Spiny.

Nintendo should have just included an option to toggle off specific items, or at least the blue shell.

No matter how much balancing they try to do, people will still be irritated by the blue shell's mere existence. You'd think the constant negative feedback would have been convincing enough.

A method to destroy it is good enough for me but I was never too anti-blue shell anyway.

Differing experiences aside, if the blue shell actually is MORE common now I'd definitely be a bit miffed, even with the super horn addition. I say this just because again, I feel there was enough feedback for Nintendo to note.

No item switch, just item rules like Shells Only, Mushrooms Only, No items, Frantic, Bananas Only, and Bob-Ombs Only.

Barely expanded upon at all (which Konno said they *did* expand on it and teased it like crazy...)
