Mario Kart 8 Info Thread

I kinda hoped instead of metal characters, we'd have just gotten a metal power-up. Not sure what it'd do exactly, but that way everyone would be metal!

I would love it if Dixie Kong & Cranky Kong became playable drivers in a future Mario Kart installment, along with any characters from the Paper Mario/Mario & Luigi series.

Reminder that we could have had Kamek in MK64 and later installments. :(

To think now would've been the perfect time to introduce them. As well as Kamek with New Super Mario Bros./Super Luigi U. There. Better. Be. Character DLC. I actually don't care for any other potential DLC. ...Well, maybe tracks, but we'll see down the road.

It counts to Nintendo, it counts......

nah if it did I would be playing right now since the digital code is at the eShop already they are just waiting for some stupid retail date that matters a whole lot more to them'

seriously I could be playing MK8 right now if my digital purchase mattered

This probably answered a lot of times. I remember reading from Eurogamer that MK8 is 1080p? Is that true or they made a mistake? Any explanation on this one?

Saw this on Tumblr today. Damn cool and nostalgic. Those "who are you" ads were the best! Hope some MK8 ad can last this long hanging in a mall.

Maybe, if it's that bad. T_T

Just give it to me straight.

It takes place on standard tracks instead of specific arenas, still has a forced timer, still based on points - but you're again eliminated after three hits.

On the plus side, it'll probably be better than MKWii's.

Smash seems to be more popular than MK8

Smash seems to be more popular than MK8

Online yes, but I don't think those numbers represent overall popularity for these reasons

-Smash direct has been out for longer
-Covered 3DS version too
-Hardcore online fanbase primary viewers
-Was arguably a better, more concise direct

-MK8 sells a lot to casuals outside the internet who don't watch wacky 40 min directs
-MK usually has long legs as views and sales increase over long periods
-MK8 direct came out of nowhere without notice

Man, the MK8 direct was aimed towards casuals. That's why the made jokes instead of talking about frame rates, inward drift, and battle mode.

Basically it's just because it was a surprise direct that hasn't been around for as long.

Is there any reason all footage of MK8 seems to only show Lap 1 or Lap 2? Do the tracks change in the last lap (or does anything else happen that Nintendo wants to keep secret)?

I don't think tracks change, it didn't in previous mk right?

I think it's a time constraint issued by Nintendo. I suppose they don't want companies like GameXplain showing too much of the game. The one exception I have seen is a full video of Mount Wario.

The press/reviewers have a time limit of content to share. Afaik, they only have 20 minutes. So, instead of recording three laps of a single course, they only record 1 lap and cover more courses.
At least that's what Andre said. Even our very NateDrake said he was reaching his time limit so yeah, that's why.

Oh shit. Well, if you still haven't gotten around to it, scrap the Iggy video if you want, Nate. I've seen a good amount of him anyways.

Ah, that explains it. Thank you, guys
