Mario Kart 8 Info Thread

I'm actually okay with Morton potentially being the most used character. He has no personality, but at least he's kinda cool looking, so it's better than if Lemmy or Lardy or whatever were in the top spot. Unless grip ends up being a huge stat

MK7 has worse track designs, character selection, game options, and drifting mechanics than Wii. What are you talking about?

Debeatable. 7 had some fun tracks. Heck 7 fixed mushroom gorge's bad mushroom layout in mario kart wii and Toned down the escalators and removed a car from coconut mall. Character selection and game options i'll give you that. 7's drifting mechanics actually made karts useable compare to how bad they were in the wii version...Tho I will say MKW is somewhat impossible for me to play now after playing 7 for too long lol.

That aside, just my opinion ofcourse. :p

I'm glad to see I'm not alone about that part. I really wanted to try to get back into it with MK8 coming soon but it just felt awful. I actually enjoyed replaying MKDS more.

Same here. I mostly play DS and 7 at the moment. Found it hard to get back into Wii. But if it's still anything like the demo build I played a while back, then the best warm-up for this game is 7 anyway.

I'm a bit worried because one of the things that I feel makes it hard to go back to MKWii is the increased racer count from 8 to 12. Combined with the item boxes being littered everywhere it just turns every race into an item spam-fest.

I haven't heard any complaints about that with MK8 so I'm guessing that the balance has been tweaked to better accommodate the extra racers.

MK Wii does have more content than MK7 but more isn't always better, especially in that case.

I'm not too worried lol. No thunder cloud, POW, Mega Mushroom, Tanooki Tail, knockback nerfs to Stars, Bullet bills, and blueshells will likely make online less of a giant cluster****. And ofcourse the Mega Horn being able to get rid of blue shells.

I was really pleased at how easily I picked up MK8 coming off of MK7. I even tried it first with the Wii Wheel controls. Was really surprised how well the competencies from MKWii and MK7 got mashed together. Very faithful to how you expect things to handle/feel from MK7, and it all worked just as well with motion.

Then I go back to MKWii and I have a hard time adjusting. I think the game controls fine, but there's definitely a jarring discontinuity from the other games.

Unless Nintendo releases a demo soon the first time that I play will be when it launches but it sounds from what you guys are saying it won't be like starting all over again like jumping from DS to Wii to 3DS.

I may still try some more MKWii before 8 comes out since I jumped online with it so fast there's still stuff that I never unlocked.

What characters do people want to see? List them and maybe a stage & I'll do it for ya.

Also, I don't know why Andre didn't show more of the MKTV options aside from the replay feature like watching Global replays and whatnot.

I'd love to see Lemmy on DS Cheep Cheep Beach riding the submarine (If you have it unlocked).

Pink gold peach if you please in bowser's castle.

This happens with every major WiiU game. Remember when 3D World was No. 1 at Amazon during the holiday season? Still wound up being the worst-selling 3D Mario to date.

People buy at Amazon, but hardly anyone buys it at retail and it doesn't end up selling well overall.

Just not enough WiiU owners out there. :-\

At the end of December 2013 the game already sold almsot 2 Mio copies on a userbase of under 6 Mio. Of course it's the worst selling 3D Mario to date.

It's completely impossible for it not to be ;-;

Game should have legs though, so if we see a miracle and the WiiU manages to catch the Gamecube in sales (as if...) I could see it outselling Sunshine.

Can the GamePad still display the map during local multiplayer if everyone is using a controller other than it?

i.e. both player 1 and 2 using a Pro Controller or Wii Remote

Would be useful to prop it up like Pikmin 3's map function.

Pink Gold Peach on any inside-drift bike (I think one is called Jet Bike?)

And if you have time remaining, a scroll-through of the digital manual to answer frequently asked questions would be great.

I wonder if the stats work like MK7 where .75 of a stat got rounded up to the nearest 1.

Bowser/Wario/Morton get 5 base speed/weight in this case.

Hehe I'm giggling at these recent news spreading about MK8 running at 1080/60. It's 2014 and people still don't know what they are talking about when it comes to resolutions. At least people got the FPS right but I'm half-expecting some baboon to write a news article saying how MK8 runs at 600FPS but only on new plasma TVs. LMAO

It keeps happening with damn near every big wii u game and I don't know why. Tropical Freeze and 3D World kept having conflicting reports up to launch.

Oh jeez, I don't want to ask for too much, so I'll stick with the two: Waluigi on the Yoshi Bike on Dolphin Shoals, and Iggy on any bike on Sherbet Land.
Thanks for doing this for us, dude. They're really fun to watch. :P

I do hope we won't see "everyone is Funky Kong"-like in online races this time.

Well thank goodness for MK7's stat distribution system returning. Though I think of the top 3 characters, we'll be seeing Bowser the most.

I'd like to see Mario and Morton in the Circuit Special in Sunshine Airport. Maybe get these 2 on the sport or mach bike?

Is there a list or at least a partial list of how to unlock characters and parts?

I know parts are unlocked every 50 coins but is it at the same increment for every part and if we can unlock them faster with 4 player Grand Prix?

I just wanna muscle through the unlocking process as it seems to be as painful as Mario Kart 7's

Was it ever confirmed for 1080p? I just this link

http://www.gamnesia.com/news/mario-...n-during-two-player-split-screen#.U2fN9_ldUjU

i don't know if it's reliable of course though, just thought I'd share

That place is literally General Gaming ZeldaInformer. Just FYI.

No, it was never confirmed. In fact, last year I heard from probably the most informed rep I've ever spoken to that the only first-party (Nintendo-developed) game confirmed for 1080p was Wind Waker. I doubt that'd have changed.

Sorry if this has been asked prior. Can I upload full races to YouTube, or is it required to be smaller clips with reply cameras?

I booted up MK Wii again tonight and had a few good races online. It wasn't long before I got into a 12 player race. The community is still going strong and the game is still a blast. There were a couple of cheaters. One guy, playing as DK in a big car, had an endless supply of bombs and he kept dropping them behind him. I still beat him on SNES Mario Circuit 3. In fact, if anything he helped me win since he was keeping the rest of the pack at bay while I kept ahead of him. Really good fun though, in general. Will probably play it again before MK 8 comes out.

Thinking about it, Dry Bowser atleast showed up in NSMB2 and 3D Land, but is Pink Gold Peach some obscure ass reference I've never seen or totally out of nowhere?

I think you are only allowed up to 60 seconds on YouTube/it can't be the full race. Had a quick look for a source and can't find one so I must be remembering from the GameXplain Q&A video.

Completely out of nowhere. Metal Wario or Silver Luigi would have been better as they've actually been in games.

Nope. Same as Toadette and baby daisy with mario kart DD/Wii being their first appearance.

Hope there are some dlc courses and cups.

Would love to see more than just 16 new tracks. 24 new would be awesome!

I like how there's strategy involved with the different routes and antigravity. But it still won't be nothing compared to the variety Sonic Transformed offered.
