2 laps, single & local multiplayer, 30 characters, 8 tracks (Mario Kart Stadium - Water Park - Mario Circuit - Sweet Sweet Canyon - Sunshine Airport - Toad Harbor - Electrodrome - Cloudtop Cruise).

Who knows, maybe it'll appear on the eShop someday!
more likely never

^It is not clear yet.

NateDrake, could you make a short video where you simply scroll through all the values of each setting in the Tournament mode? That would be awesome. Maybe also the Options menu of the game.

I have a short video showing off the options in Tournament mode and other track footage being formatted and everything now. Stay tuned.

oh man that would be hilarious.

damn it Nintendo

It wouldn't be hilarious. Everyone would be picking it online so that they could try to do the shortcut and beat everyone that failed at the shortcut or didn't know about it. There was a glitch shortcut on Maka Wuhu in Mario Kart 7 and it completely ruined the online because people would just pick it over and over for the easy wins until Nintendo patched it.

I wouldn't say it ruined it as eventually everyone knew how to do it.

It compromised it for sure.

Nothing makes me happier than playing Mario Kart 7 nowadays and there are still fuckers that think that's still in the game.

Pretty sure you can move the camera in MKTV. Many of the photo's that the press are uploading to Miiverse look like those on the website in terms of angles, though they could just be from the dynamic replay camera.

I think you can only pause/fast forward/rewind.

Thanks for answers. Ohhh I truly hope we can have some sort of camera control to take epic screenshots. Especially while using Donkey Kong and his face haha.

I'd say being forced to play a track a certain way to be competitive ruins it. I still wish Nintendo had patched the track so attempting the Maka Wuhu shortcut had you get placed in a small enclosed cage where you were stuck while everyone else finished the race...

It made the game less fun. You had to race Maka Wuhu all the time because so many people picked it, and if you didn't pull off the shortcut there was no way to win.

They could have just put a caged platform covering the bottomless pit where the shortcut is. Instead of respawning you'd just be stuck off track.

Killing the unlockable characters hope right away. :(

EDIT: Andre says it is 720p.

EDIT2: No automatic drifting? Isn't that already confirmed?

What he said is inexact. It's like in MK7, automatic and manual have been combined, thus if you turn sharply without starting a drift, the game will automatically drift for you. What's new in MK8 is that you can charge a mini-turbo this way.

I still have no idea why they thought it was necessary to retcon their status as Bowser's offspring. Like, what does that even accomplish? Why does Bowser Jr. have to be the only child?

Who knows, but given how Shigeru Miyamoto stated he likes to keep the Mario games light on narrative to focus on the gameplay, it's a wonder if they'll ever make another installment in the Paper Mario series. I loved how the earlier games had portrayed Bowser to be more of a well-rounded character (who was more of a dim-witted, incompetent buffoon) than a one-dimensional villain in the platforming games.

Pretty much how I choose to see it, as well, though Jr. has grown on me a bit in recent years. Even if the Koopalings are not his kids "by blood", it's clear that they still get preferential treatment from Bowser that others in his army don't get. Personalized Airships with their faces on it, being able to drive Bowser's Klown Kar and what little interaction that they have together with Bowser (and Junior) in the NSMB series endings since NSMBW would do a lot to suggest they still act the part of a "family unit".

In NSMBWii, I laughed when the Koopalings & Jr. had fruitlessly tried to lift Bowser up, only to have his castle fall on him in the end. Also, it was a nice touch that Larry had taken the longest to get to the castle, given he was the furthest away.

Besides, until they actually do anything to address why the "change" was necessary, just randomly dropping something that SMB3 established over 20 years ago doesn't make a lot of sense. It's not as if this series is home to wealth of a characterization and backstory development, as it is. Kamek's still the only (adoptive) "Father figure" we've known Bowser to have, and I sincerely doubt we'll ever get the issue addressed of who Junior's mother is...especially when "Stork deliveries" exist and is the only hand-wave necessary! :lol

I remember Archie Comics had tried to pitch a monthly Super Mario Bros. comic, as well as a Kirby & Metroid series. It would've been interesting to see how they could have handled adapting the games & spin-offs in some narrative of sorts.

Oh. Well.

There goes a handful of my hype for this game. I fail to see why Nintendo would think it's a good idea to halfass the roster so blatantly. I guarantee we'll see DLC and I guarantee it'll include a bunch of the obvious characters that this roster lacked.

So much for Nintendo being better than other companies about DLC. :/

Now now lets not be so quick to judge just yet.

Not that' I would be surprised if that does happen

Can't someone tell me how the controls work, specifically how you drift? The only Mario Kart game I had was for the DS, but I never got drifting down pat for some reason.

Jump and turn, and it'll actually drift for you, unlike the DS game and all the games made before the DS one.
