9/10 like Mario Kart 7 and Advance. DS and 64DD 8/10. Mario Kart Wii got 6/10. Double Dash 5/10
I disagree with most of those scores for the older Mario Karts. Hmm.
I still think MK8 will be a great game, but just sayin'...

It wasn't leaked. Some quotes:

I might or might not get a U pro by the end of the month, so if I don't, I'll be CC-ing, not even pro, into MK8 full speed ; )This is gonna sound crazy, but I think I may be leaning more towards using the CC pro over the Wii U pro controller. I have both, I just like the feeling of the CC pro for Mario Kart. Who with me?!
Kewl, thanks! So 5pm over here!![]()
I believe that's right. The time in Paris is 6 hours ahead from EST. 9 hours ahead from PST.
So I guess we should expect reviews midnight (west coast time)
LOL. Edge do love to exaggerate. Both were perfectly fine games. It wasn't leaked. Some quotes:

GP mode is playable with multiple players this time and unlocks everything as it normally would, from what we've been told.

If you got a Gamestop doing that preview thing, you can gnaw on it this weekend... and then wait another 2 weeks still.
Delightfully early embargo for us europeans. I haven't even finished my first cup of coffee at work when this hits - lovely.

Taking bets for negatives:
No use of GamePad besides off-TV play / map display / motion controls; could have implemented 2P local multiplayer on TV+GamePad screens separated, 5-player mode or other features
Shallow solo content; not even a Mission (MKDS) / Tournament (MKWii) mode to make up for it
Antigravity is just cosmetic / gameplay has not fundamentally changed (I CAN SENSE THIS ONE ALREADY)
Voice chat limited to lobbies; no free text chat input
Too much luck-based (other words for I suck at the game, but it must be its fault)
Character roster inflated by clones
Feels too slow
New items aren't new enough
No battle arenas / still a time limit for battles / only balloon battles / battle mode sucks
Framerate is stable 30fps with 3P/4P instead of 60fps which is totally unacceptable
Only 720p / no anti-aliasing / no antianiscoptroniwhateverfiltering
In isolation Double Dash is good, in comparison to other MK's, it really is pretty bad. As is the N64 one. Mainly because of the terrible handling in both games.
That Double Dash score makes me wanna weep
Is that real?!
Oh man, I couldn't disagree more about the handling. It felt good in MK64, got somewhat downgraded in DD, then drastically downgraded again in Wii. Everything but the sport bikes handled like fucking dumptrucks.
Forgot "it won't save the Wii U" :lolTaking bets for negatives:

Less than 12hrs until the embargo lift. Roughly 9hrs to go.
Same here. Edge is definitely one of the least consistent Reviewing outlets out there.
I really don't know what you would use the gamepad for with a game like this? Might have some interesting uses in battle mode but in the racing mode, I dunno. I'm not sure we can fault Nintendo
I don't understand this comment. The vehicles turn a hell of a lot better in 64 than Wii (again sport bikes notwithstanding).I guess if you enjoy driving on ice I could see MK64 being your favorite.

So I played Mario Kart 7 to refresh my memory...
Good:
+ The game is graphically outstanding. It is easy to miss while racing, but I looked more closely and the game has great detail.
+ Cart customization is neat. I cannot wait to see bike customizations!
+ Retro tracks are fun.
+ Coins are a neat callback.
Bad:
- Glider and propeller feels forced. Many tracks are not designed with the abilities in mind.
- Original tracks are more miss than hit. Many are easily forgettable.
- Lack of cool down for Blue Shell. Got Lightning right after one.
Ugly:
? That roster, why?
Anyways Mario Kart 8 cannot come soon enough!
One of the most exciting things about Mario Kart 8 has been seeing them fix this. Every element seems to work in perfect harmony this time, in addition to the newer anti-grav stuff.
I don't understand this comment either. Sure if you exclude the best handling vehicles of each MK you could also say all Mario Karts handle like shit.
Mario Kart Wii has the best handling of the series thanks to the inclusion of the new inward-drifting bikes. Period.
Going a bit off topic, would you guys recommend Mk SNES over 64? I'd like to play some of the old Mk games in the series as a pound of reference.

Agree with you there! Gliding is such a good idea and from previews it seems to be fixed. Here is hoping!
Super Circuit is better than those two
But if you have to chose between those games, I'd go with 64 since it does have more varied and better designed courses
While I don't really care one way or another what MK8 scores (since I'm pretty sure I'll love it), I'm not expecting super great scores. I'd say average will be 7.5-8.5 from all the major outlets (not including Nintendo-fan sites). There's a lot to love about MK8, but I won't be surprised if points are taken off for lack of gameplay features, lack of modes, poor roster, and a subpar battle mode.
