8 means great there, not "great"

Using the full scale is not the same as always using the same score. Mind you, I'm not complaining about the GS Mario Kart score, I have rated the game a 7.5 in singleplayer myself (9.5 in multiplayer).

Looks like Nintendo's confidence in the title was not misplaced. There's no reason to hold reviews until very close to release unless you're afraid that the game is a turd and people will cancel their pre-orders when they see the reviews.

THE GOOD
Karts feel satisfying beneath your fingers
Courses provide plenty of opportunities for smart speed bursts
Wide assortment of interesting tracks
Emphasis on driving rather than fighting rewards skill
Challenging without feeling cheap

THE BAD
Battle mode is downright boring
Weak selection of characters

Not sure if battle mode and roster are equal to docking 2 whole points but whatever it doesn't matter their overall review was pretty glowing.

This definitely seems like the best Mario Kart yet just hope it sells like it.

I know I've voiced this before, but 2 points for battle mode seems fair to me.

Hopefully there will be battle mode DLC to make this an almost perfect MK.

They don't even belong to the same weight class. If someone took Diddy's place in the game, it was one of the Koopalings.

It's definitely going to move some systems but I doubt that many.

Better original tracks is good to hear. Retro tracks are subjective. MK7 had good retro tracks and mostly meh original tracks.
