France was getting better deals all the time, not only with Mario, they also got SF2 for only 29 Euro when it was 39 elsewhere at launch. It also sold a ton there to top the video game top 100 lists.
I'm living with a McDonald's in Paris, life's hard sometimes.
How much does it work out at buying from Japan?
Because at Amazon you can get it for £34 (digital or physical using prime discount and £6 free when you buy a £30 gift card) and I doubt it'll be cheaper.
why isn't the thread advertising the UK digital code as the deal then (since that seems cheaper)

Provided you're then an Amazon prime member Odyssey sells for £39.99 instead of £41.99 (£2 prime discount) minus the £6 promo get's you the £33.99

No problem at all.
I got my automated promo email 24 hours later.
However I contacted amazon immediately after buying the gift card to complain that I wasn't given the promo immediately and they gave me £6 on the spot and applied it to my account. I still ended up getting the £6 promo too. I thought the customer service credit might have overridden the automated promo but it didn't So ended up with £12 in total.
On the EU thread there were mixed results with customer service though, some were able to get £6 straight away and others were told to wait. As always it comes down to who you speak to.

You do get a download code, and no it just depends on account settings, not on hardware settings. You just need to be logged into an account set to JP when redeeming the code on the eShop.
So I got this... not sure why unless other people will start getting it. Looks like no-go for me.

You need to change your billing adress to a french one as well. Had the same problem.
When you try to order and it tells you you can´t cause you´re from germany, on the top of the site where it says you can´t, there should be a link in it. Don´t know what it says, i´m not french lol, but that let´s you change your billing address.
I had the same problem today as you. Changing the billing address fixed it.

Extrapolating from that, Japan is 16 hours AHEAD. So subtracting 16 from Midnight Thursday is.. 8am Wednesday?!

Switch costs $300? Game is $60? Plus you get a Mario Switch case and red joycons.
Seems like a slightly better deal.
Depends on what color joy cons you want and whether you'd use the included case or not. The bundle isn't saving you any money. $300 Switch+$60 game+$20 case=$380

Actually let me rephrase it this way. On Wednesday you'll receive the digital code from Amazon but, you still have to wait until 8am Thursday in order to activate the code

It's a great deal and I don't think this is a game that I would ever resell so having it always on the system is a big plus. I had ordered a UK copy for ~48 Euro incl. shipping but this 43 Euro deal without the fear of not getting it in time is worth it. Already set my country to France so I can input the code as soon as Amazon sends it to me

If you're in the US at least, you can probably find a trusted seller on NeoGaf or CAG to sell you eShop credit for 10% off.

To follow up on the Amazon £6 offer, I spoke to amazon through chat yesterday and was assured I'd be given the code same day. Still hadn't received it in the evening so I spoke to them again, the guy apologised and said he'd give me £5 credit. Woke up this morning and no £5 and no £6 credit, spoke to them again, after lots of apologies I got all the credit (though I somehow ended up with £13), so I've just pre-ordered for £30 essentially.
