Mario Tennis: Ultra Smash Review Thread

So many 3s and 6s lol.

Well, at least we will get some pretty models out of it once TMR people get their hands on the game

They really really need to let Camelot try to make an RPG mode out of this again. At least give it a shot.

I wonder if a large part of the reason they were allowed to on gba was that they had other rpg engines to reuse already.

The golden sun art style appealed to me a lot more than the current mii based designs too...

What kind of post is this?

In his opinion it is not true and he kind of cited examples in this thread(indirectly).

Exactly.

Xenoblade Chronicles X, save us now. Please.

I can't believe how absolutely shallow this game turned out. You seriously can't even play online with friends like an earlier poster said?

Glad I dodged a bullet and only set my interest in Pokemon Super Mystery Dungeon.

As much hyped as I'm for Xenoblade Chronicles X and as a good game as I think I'll be, it's definitely not going to review well.

To play partners online you need either:

- a local friend
- an amiibo

No 4-player multiplayer?

Four player is only local.

This is a bigger bummer this morning than Deus Ex getting pushed back six months.

I was hoping this game would rekindle the scream "go fuck yourself" at your best friend competitive streak that the N64 version awoke among my friends during college. We had a tentatively planned child-free get together planned. But, now...this. I won't even bother at a lower price point, and we'll stick with Super Pole Riders, Smash, and the soccer mini-game of Rayman Legends when we want to get furious at each other.

Thanks for nothing Nintendo. Thanks for nothing, bigtime. :(

Well, you can play local multiplayer exactly like on the N64, but that alone isn't worth the price.

Nintendo should had throw at least a 2nd wave of Super Mario amiibo with the release of this game by making Waluigi, Wario, Koopas, Shy Guys, etc... Not even that.

They rushed out a couple games to keep Wii U owners contented while they work on NX stuff, it predictably blew up in their face.

Look how content we are...

Does it play well though? Is it the lack of effort concerning courts/modes/characters that make it feel lackadaisical? I want to get this to play multiplayer with groups of people that come over like Mario Kart.

Is it just uninspired tennis? Even though I thought Mario Tennis Open was also barebones, I had a great time with it!

The Tennis part is fine, the matter is that's it.

hahaha these guys could've just brought the gamecube game, made it HD and not wasted money on this garbage. Out online as well

cool thanks :)

Nov 30 is the review embargo. We can stream on Nov. 19.

Gameplay wise the game is solid. Controls and looks great. For local and online multiplayer, you'll have fun. You'll just wish there was more offered from the game.

Not even Shy Guys!?? Worst Mario Tennis game re-confirmed then.

Shy Guy wasn't in Open either. Neither was Koopa actually. And actually Paratroopa is the original Koopa in tennis, Open was the first (not RPG) tennis game without Paratroopa or Shy Guy.

This tennis cut from open

- Diddy (from Power Tennis)
- Metal Mario (new)
- Baby Mario (from 64!)
- Baby Peach (new)
- Luma (new)
- Colored Yoshis (I guess?)
- Mii (how???)

And added
- Rosalina
- Spixie
- Toadette
- And also brought Toad back, having not appeared since 64

The roster is awful.

I enjoyed Mario Tennis 64 so I might get it at some p...
$ 64,99 canadian
what the fu....I guess i'll never get it since Nintendo "sales" are nothing substantial.
I'll see you 2 generations from now Mario Tennis, if you're still relevant at that point that is.

So... Splatoon and Mario Maker are Nintendo's only two "good" games this year? Holy crap, what is going on over there

Between this and AC Amiibo, I am very, VERY interested to hear how Reggie/PR spins this holiday lineup.
Why would they? :p
Their holiday commercial has been running for over a month and focused mostly on the 3DS, TriForce Heroes, Super Mystery Dungeon and Smash.

Their big holiday bundle is a Wii U with Smash and Splatoon. And their focus as far as big releases go this Holiday is Xenoblade X.

Plus they already had a Direct with amiibo Festival and Mario Tennis last week.

They already did the spins. :p

Some of the playable character counts are unfair since the majority of characters in the GBC and GBA games are human characters unlocked in the story mode. As for the court counts, some are simple reskins of each other (earlier games), but later games in the series do have unique styles for quite a few of their court choices. Ultra Smash, of course, does not.

Aside from that, it's clear that Ultra Smash is lacking especially in minigames and multiplayer features. Perhaps they'll come later in updates (online features at least).

You're being awfully generous to Open with 8 QR characters. There really was only one "proper" QR character, with Metal Mario. Unique voice, sound effects, etc.

The rest are just alt colored Yoshi. Something Power Tennis had as an easter egg.

Although it kind of says something that even that half-assed QR-bolstered character roster is still ahead of Ultra Smash
