Aw man, I just played through the entire trilogy the other month too. I was wanting to use a controller for 2, but it was just too god awful. Better late than never I guess.

Actually, its true.

Its very visible on every conference or media playthrough ever where people, who use controllers daily, cant even properly aim at anything on screen. Its so hard to watch, that it really boggles my mind why can anyone defend that pad is great or even good input device for aiming.
Good thing those people aren't everyone.

And how does this change what Dictator said? No one is saying that You get good with pad, hell You can get good with any device, like a guy that finished Dark Souls with a guitar, but it doesnt change the fact that controller is not suited as aiming device in games.
That's the thing. Your trying to depict gamepads as a bad input source for aiming when in fact it's down to your own inability to aim with them. I think they're very well suited for that particular purpose. Don't blame the device when the fault lies within yourself.

Analogue sticks are basically like a joystick. You don't see people driving fork lifts with mice. Wonder why. A DS3 and DS4 for example have a great sturdiness without being too stiff and those depending on the game they're used with allows for really high precision.

I have ME1 and ME2 on PC but haven't come around to playing them. Controller support would be great, I was baffled when I found out it wasn't natively supported on the PC versions.

Xpadder profiler is a much better controller solution at this point.

However, I can appreciate that there's a guy out there who's willing to do great work, even though BioWare wouldn't...

When did i said they are bad? When was i even talking about me? Start reading actual sentences, not something You think someone said.

And You can see on youtube that most people, that are using gamepads daily, are actually struggling with aiming. Its not because they are unable to aim, its because gamepads are not 'aiming' friendly devices, thats a fact.
It also doesnt mean that gamepads are bad input devices or that You cant play any games with aiming with them, no one, at least no one i was 'defending' said that.

Happens in every Internet thread where someone is either asking whether a PC game has controller support, or asking if there is a mod available. Suddenly, mysterious anti-controller armies march forth and make damn sure we all know how very, terribly wrong we are.
Its really frustrating. Its been that way since the 1980s. I remember asking for controller support on pc games on BBSes and got lectured that keyboards were far superior to joysticks and gamepads.

The fact is, games are designed around a certain UI. Even though ME can be played with a mouse and keyboard and the aiming is superior, the game was meant to be played with a modern gamepad. Especially if you play any character other than soldier.

the GUI is also being altered to accommodate controller support. This isn't just some nice xpadder profile, dude is putting some work in.

and for people whining about kb&m superiority: Some of us PC owners have our PCs hooked up to our TVs and are living that comfy couch life. Also, if anyone should be understanding about having MORE options you'd think it'd be a PC gamer. Chill out, brahs.

The fact that Bioware is a multi-million company and that they can't even be arsed to give proper controller support of their huge blockbuster games is pretty telling of either their talent or their disregard for their consumers

I put in 5 pounds, which apparently is 115th of what it will take to get to his funding goal.

Are there another 114 people here willing to make a similarly-small contribution? Every little bit helps.

Just want to say props to this dude for doing what Bioware should have done in the first place. They could have at least patched it in later but I guess they just didn't care enought to do it.

Some would even argue the two are directly linked.

Yep. Hopefully they are too busy working on a proper remaster collection for current gen.

No need to turn this into a hostile argument and say people who don't like aiming with a controller are bad with them. Everyone has their preferences and that's cool. For example, I like to do sudden turns while aiming to explore the environment, something that's not possible on a controller. At the same time, I know it's harder to use KB/M for some people, especially with specific classes in Mass Effect, but I won't say they are bad at aiming with KB/M. That's why input choice is a thing in PC games.

EDIT: Even though I won't play with a controller, I shared the campaign on Twitter for you guys. ;)

For me, Third Person games just 'feel' better with a controller. It's hard for me to put into words, but I have this weird disconnect when using a M&KB for third person games or anything where the camera isn't first person.

For first person perspective I can switch pretty easily between M&KB or controller. The past 3 years though I've had my PC hooked up to my TV in my room though, so I generally play most games with controller any more and only use M&B for games that don't support it.

There are more chilled out, walky-talky moments in ME than action ones. I like to lean back and relax with a controller.

I'm glad someone is doing this; I'd like it with all Bioware games eventually. I guess the Steam controller is coming out soon tho.

I try to avoid M&K as much as possible, but I'll use it for competitive games or shooters that have really sucky gamepad controls.

Man was i surprised to find no controller mods for the trilogy for my playthrough, which nearly crippled my hands, 100+ hours on a mouse for weeks is not natural.

Thread bookmarked for its completion.
Forgetting about the whole ME KB/M debate going on... It's not "natural"? It's not that bad considering a lot of jobs require to be in front a computer for hours. Same when you're just browing the internet at home. For example, I use a computer at my job from 8am to 4pm, and then play computer games such as WoW or ME on my PC, or just browse GAF, Youtube, Facebook, etc. during the evening, yet my wrist is doing just fine.

I assume if playing the ME trilogy on PC almost "crippled" you, that you don't use a computer that much to begin with?

I agree with you, except for Mass Effect. Maybe because it is a shooter (in terms of combat). But The Witcher, for example, I prefer with a controller. That's why choice is so great!

How is allowing more choice terrible? Please explain. While the controls for the PC version aren't terrible, why is it bad to allow other people the choice to play how they wish?

I know several people with more than capable PCs for playing the series, but bought the console versions specially because they preferred the console controls.

-Edit-

That was one quick edit, now my comment doesn't make sense. Just for the sake of the edit, his comment originally stated that this was terrible.

there is no hate, some of us prefer playing on televisions or using a controller. More options is better, and it's unfortunate that EA didn't bother with controller support for the series on PC.

It's nice to see someone take up the effort for it. People shouldn't come in here to let us know that their preferred control method (which is already available for the series) is better and that others should get over it. It's basically trolling, really, and while yes kb&m is an ideal method to control many PC games we should be open to other input methods as well. Like I said earlier, since when do PC gamers whine about more options?

Dude's talented enough to do a complex mod for ME games.

Can't afford a new $800 laptop.

what
Having talent in something doesn't mean you can afford equipment to continue to work and evolve. :(

Anw: I'll donate to this thing, this just pop up in the right time, I started a new run in the series yesterday <3

I want to play Mass Effect on my PC through my TV while sitting on my couch.

This guy is my hero and I will definitely be donating this week.

  1. My gaming PC is hooked up to my living room television so I can just sprawl out on the couch when gaming
  2. Keyboard + mouse gaming absoultely kills my wrists after a day of clattering away on my computer at the office. On the other hand, the 360/PS3 style controllers cause no discomfort and I can play for as long as I want.

I tried streaming to the nVidia Shield last night with the mod and after enabling ME2 in GeForce experience it worked perfectly. This mod is great!

Maybe someone should post this on BSN? I'm guessing out of the thousands of ME PC players there, at least a few percent would donate for a mod.

Wow this is fantastic news. I've finished the games a few times like most of you using kb/m but have always wanted to play it with controller support. I finished tomb raider 2013 using both control methods and for 3rd person games I often prefer a controller.

Not at home now, great to see he already has £100. I'll edit the op later and ask a mod to edit the thread title.

This is cool, although I already counted on Steam controller for my next trilogy replay.
And by that time it is possible EA will release a remaster that will include controller support natively (they did ask about it recently here iirc).

This is really cool, if only EA/Bioware would put the DLC on sale so I can have one last playthrough of the series in it's entirety. I would love to play the ME3 DLC I never bought.
