Not personality-wise. I liked the non-playable characters and party members. I meant the skill trees and the way your character levels, and the options you have to develop them. There was really no distinction between one player character and another, and they definitely didn't change the way you played the game.temp said:*re-enters thread*
You could make Dawn Star bisexual. If that isn't character development then I don't know what is.
I'd really rather not be quoted in support of an agenda that this game is somehow any more victimized than any other hyped game on GAF, esp. with the way you behave in Lair threads. So if it's all the same to you, don't quote me again.Speevy said:This is a negative impressions thread. Get out.

Oh yeah, I completely forgot about that. That was so bad.Kevar said:Not personality-wise. I liked the non-playable characters and party members. Every environment we've seen has been KotOR-esque as far as being empty. You can't deny that it doesn't look promising in that regard, not that it bothers me much.Subarushian said:The broad generalizations of Mass Effect are also highly amusing. We've only seen a handful (at most) of areas and people are already calling the environments empty. How 'bout waiting till you actually play the game before you make sweeping statements about a game no one outside of Bioware has really seen anything of? Wow, a rocky water-filled canyon area doesn't have jungle growing out of it! Blasphemy!
Are you saying that KotOR had bad AI or does this not make sense?Subarushian said:If the best argument you can come up with against mass effects combat is that a particular enemy that we saw didn't duck under a shot... then fine go back to playing kotor.
That catchphrase is actually reserved for Condemned 2.Jtyettis said:Game is made of nothing but awesome and win.

Yeah, pretty sure. I don't mean that absolutely every scene looks like a completely barren box, but the gameplay videos make it out like the environments are pretty empty, like in KotOR.Subarushian said:You sure about that?
So what you're saying is that you don't think the game is indicative of itself.Subarushian said:I think it does look promising. Obviously, in a game of this size not every environment is going to be chock-full, but also in a game of this size seeing a small handful of levels and then extrapolating those characteristics to others is folly.

Ghost said:stage6? HAWT.
The problem with that is that it's a fallacy. No one's saying that every level is going to contain empty environments; people are saying that the environments we've seen are (mainly) empty, and that is a bad sign for the rest of the game. You're taking that and turning it into an obviously untrue straw man argument.Subarushian said:No, what I'm railing against is people saying all of mass effect levels are going to contain empty environments. When in a game with so many levels and us having seen so few of them its impossible to make such a broad generalization.
How many times do I have to repeat that?
Yes!!!!Subarushian said:Fine, i'm wrong, your right.

Sorry, I was refering to Frenck's posts about how kotors battle system looked more "fluid" that Mass Effects.
sh4mike said:Has Bioware ever mentioned whether you can directly switch your primary character to a party member other than Shepard during combat? For example, if I built Shepard as a close-range fighter but I see some robots off in the distance, could I switch to a sniper in my party and take them out?
Wow, really? When did that happen?Clevinger said:You can't. It was in one of the old gameplay videos, but apparently they cut it.
temp said:Wow, really? When did that happen?
You do not ever take direct control of your party members. You can order them through squad commands to do things like attack, retreat, move to location, etc, but you do not ever assume control of the squad members.
Clevinger said:You can't. It was in one of the old gameplay videos, but apparently they cut it.
Oh, apparentlyClevinger said:I don't know when, but I didn't believe it either until someone linked to a developer quote on the Bioware boards. If I have time I'll look around for it later.

Huh, I don't really care too much either way I guess.Christ Priestly said:it was always like that. Some people were confused by part of the demo footage that was released, but it has always been this way.
I think in the IGN video he said that there was a story driven part with Wrex that they didn't want to give away.rinker said:So I've seen I think 4 different gameplay videos of this section with Wrex and every time, the conversation is the exact same. The conversation system is supposed to be one of the selling points of the game, and I couldn't think of a better way to show that off then taking the same conversation down different paths to show how deep it is. Since they use the same tree every time, is it just smoke and mirrors or do they not want to show too much?
I think he meant that would happen later on. And if that's not what he meant, they probably should have picked a different conversation to showcase, since rinker has a pretty good point here.UncleGuito said:I think in the IGN video he said that there was a story driven part with Wrex that they didn't want to give away.
