Mass Effect 3 Spoiler Thread |OT2| Taste the Rainbow

I don't even see why people would care about grinding score for the "best" ending considering how little difference it makes.

If Mass Effect 4 is an actual continuation of the series. Everything Hudson has said so far has insinuated that all future Mass Effect games will fall under the 1-3 timeline. This series has no future, and that is the worst part of the endings.

Hudson also lies his ass off.

That would actually produce more endings/outcomes than ME3 (8 possible choices)

Wow, so cool! Does it come with any pre-order bonus? Maybe some DLC dialogue trees?

Pre-order gets you the H8 ending weapons pack for use in the final London assault. They are all way better than anything else in the game and have unlimited recharging ammo.

The more I think about it, the more I feel like Bioware insulted their fans. I doubt I will even bother to do renegade playthrough, because in the end it doesn't matter what I do. Worst of all was that all the time you could dedicate to expand your army has no impact on the final battle at all, except for a 5 second CG segment. I wanted the Destiny Ascension to save an Alliance capital ship from an untimely death, the batarian Balak, from Bring Down the Sky, should have shown up with the remnants of the Batarian Fleet, and Geth Colussus support during the ground battle. Instead they left us with nothing, not even a few crumbles. They didn't even bother to include radio reports of how the fleet and the rest of the army was doing depending on your choices.

If it were not for the Indoctrination Theory I would not even consider ME3 a part of my personal ME storyline. It would have ended with Shepard dieing during the Suicide Mission.

im replaying 3 now, definitely me2 is the more memorable...
me2 had the best cast i think.....

(also the indoctrination theory maybe is wrong, dlc could clear this up.)

me3 depends in most cases on the superior cast from the previous games
if you exlude javic the dlc tha game is no where the other 2 games.
you dont even have a krogan in your crew.
edi,loco are weak.
and me2 had the best cast i think.....

I feel like ME3 was overall more memorable, but it was memorable because it capped off events and characters from ME2 (and ME1 to an extent), so to me the games are innately linked together. I'm not sure which I like better, though, 2 or 3. 3 has events like Mordin's death and the thresher maw vs reaper battle that aren't even touched by anything before.

I'm watching a video of where Shep cures the genophage and it is still so good. I agree, ME3 is a lot more memorable because it is ending the character arcs set up in the first and second games.

ME3 as a whole is better, but finishes poorly. ME2 does have an unquestionably better crew and ending though. I feel like the suicide mission kind of bites them in the ass here, because everyone was expecting a suicide mission with the entire galaxy for this ending, but completely failed to deliver.

Imagine how awesome it would have been to actually use the resources you built up, picking what type of fleets you want supporting who and what ground forces you want hitting specific targets. God, it could have been so good.

the characters that are created in me2 and you play with them make the game a more memorable experience i think....

some are used well in 3 for a mission, like mordin, but you care about the character because of me2. me3 didn't offer me as much characters to care for example....

I'm planning on replaying ME1 and ME2 just to kill Shep during the Suicide Mission. ME3 doesn't need to happen anymore. :p

This stuff doesn't even make sense to me. Wouldn't it be better to end all the character arcs and all that and just shut off the console when Shep gets hit by harbinger at the end or something? Or shut it off with Shep looking out as Anderson dies?

That'd require Bioware to actually put some creative thinking and work into each and every one of those resources. But they'd rather put a few minutes CG scene than delving into deeper RPG elements.

If they had gotten the ending right, it would have been magnificent. I agree on ME2, the crew is better and the ending , especially with the bombastic Suicide Mission theme. It let you know that you've done something extraordinary.

Just got through the double-whammy of Mordin and Thane dying back to back. Both were handled very well.

But Kai Leng being a Ninja, come on BioWare, what kind of shitty jrpg-wannabe character design did you green-light there?

Man, none of the characters introduced in ME3 (Vega, etc.) are any good at all except for Javik. BioWare shouldn't bother with human characters IMO, they really suck at them (Kaiden and Ashley also sucked).

Also, male-shepherd is such a terrible deadpan vocal protagonist.

The impact of it is amazing, in fact I feel like ME2 is the only reason I bothered replaying the series after finishing ME3. My first run of ME2 ended rather... poorly and my crew suffered for it. Those little decisions, like ignoring a specific loyalty mission or not upgrading a certain part of the Normandy cascaded into characters dying and not existing the entirety of ME3. I had to replay it just to run through everything with those characters alive.

It bugged me more (tehe) that there is a rachni queen at all if you decided to kill her. LOLREAPERSCLONEDHER is super weak, and you know the only reason this was forced in there was so they could use all the damn Reaperrachni creatures without having to worry about that choice impacting things.

Oh god that's the alternative? WTF.

Wait, is that a reply from Arthur Gies on the previous page?

Can't believe we have bloggers reading this thread and still completely failing to grasp why people have issues with the ending.

Wall Street Journal's got a op-ed on the matter now as well.

http://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2012/03/26/why-the-ending-of-mass-effect-3-started-a-furor/

Some interesting points that keep coming up.

There are some interesting points but, it seems at the end, he suggest that people are upset with the ending because Shepard dies. I haven't seen an article in the gaming press that has represented the argument against the ending accurately. I also wish the movement to change the ending never happened because the protest has become the story.

Everything I've read out of the gaming press about the issue ends up concluding that fans unhappy about the ending are irrational and entitled and unable to accept Shepard's death. It's so frustrating to read over and over again with no way to argue the actual points. I feel like the ending collapses under even the most limited scrutiny but I have yet to read an article that delves into the undeniable issues.

the thrasher maw battle is a video...
when you replay it is not that wow i think...

endgame of me2 is unmatched...
and not only comparing it to the game in the trilogy.
compared to every game.the whole premise...

and on that mission you take the best cast of this trilogy...

They read threads about as well as they finish games before reviewing them.

And at the end, even though I had won the war, everyone was dead.

It was a strange feeling of impotence, one that forced me to quit the game in frustration rather than face the difficult choices ahead of me, and well up with tears uncontrollably as I saw characters I had knew and loved look at me with confused non-recognition as I sent them to their deaths. But ultimately it showed me the brilliance of BioWare’s final act, the plunge they were never willing to make in the first two games. In a war as extreme as the one fought in Mass Effect 3, death is a fact. To pretend otherwise, as I had in the last two games, was a bizarre and destructive form of self-denial.

What the hell is this person talking about? People died in ME1, they died in ME2. Death didn't just make an appearance just now. I don't think it added anything, other than maybe Tali's suicide, that was unexpected.

But there’s a deeper story here than whether or not BioWare did the right thing. What the Mass Effect 3 furor shows more than anything is the growing tension between two distinct forces within gaming that is finally erupting. Choice, whether or not it’s genuine, empowers people. And empower them is exactly what BioWare told its fans it would do.

I like this, however. BW did empower the player, but now the resentment has turned that word into entitlement.

How can anyone overlook such an important aspect the previous games like that? Shepard's impossible choice on Virmire, having to kill Wrex (possibly) and the countless lives lost at the Battle of the Citadel. And then there's the possible deaths of all your squad mates in ME2.

That's what bugged me about Shepard's visions. How many close friends has he lost over his career? And he keeps focusing on one random kid? Bleh.

I don't know, let's just get haunted by some stupid kid. Man, this War and it's unsavable people are really not helping my PTSD. I think I need to stop having sex with Drells; those hallucinations are so good though.

It's probably been pointed out already, but having visions of either Kaidan or Ash would've been far more powerful for me at least. That would make replaying that decision in ME1 even better knowing they'll come back to haunt you.

Everyone hates Kaidan. I would laugh at him in my dreams!

Heh. The thresher maw is nothing compared to Mordin. :|

I was lumping Mordin's death in with that whole section. Seeing the Maw kill the reaper was sort of a nice fuck yeah moment that in a way avenged Mordin's death. That whole sequence was amazing though, and Mordin is one of my favorite characters of all time.

I think it's best to say that both Kaidan and Ashley were unlikable. If they were to appear in a dream, I'd be like . . . fuck, didn't I kill/let you die for a reason? Why are you talking to me?

I like Kaidan so you're already wrong. Also, if you didn't notice this before, many fan arts/vids/sketches have Kaidan alive and Ashley dead.

Instead of the kid, the presence should have been a morph of everyone who has died including either Ashley or Kaidan/Mordin/Thane/Legion/Wrex (if he died in your game), etc.

Here something else that was cut from the game:

The hearing begins and your are summoned; escorted from you cell by an elite young soldier, James. On the long walk you are accompanied by your mentor and friend, Admiral Anderson. Just as you are about to enter the hearing, your old friend (lover?) Ashley/Kaidan arrives; but there's little time for reminiscing as you are whisked inside. James and A/K wait outside while you face your accusers. The hearing is a witch hunt; nobody seems interested in the truth. Even with Anderson defending you, it's clear the leaders won't listen to reason.

To be fair, Kaiden is one of the voices during that part, showing that she's still haunted at that point by having to choose to send him to his death.
