Yisss! This is what I've been missing. It's only a month till PS4 releases, give us stuff, let the hype train roll on full throttle!
 
i'll see if it changes my mind, the new helghast designs have none of the menace of the original, the lolcatghast in shiny armor look just aren't doing it for me, neither is the color palette, nowhere near as oppressive as earlier games..maybe they'll show me something about the direction they're going in that will make change my mind and get with the new program.
 
Please be as good as Mercenary.

That is IMO the best justice the entire universe has received. You see the war from all sides, and if SF comes anywhere close to it then it'll be a very fun game!

As well conceived as the oppressive settings in the previous games were, Guerrilla has the artists to do so much more. The new helghast models have more of a mysterious look to them, and as such have a bit more character than just two angry red eyes, which I prefer. I think the art direction will be a nice change of pace for the series.

It's also worth noting the game will likely take place in both sides' environments.
 
It would be hard to have a media blackout and still view NeoGaf after Thursday.... If it direct feed footage we will probably have multiple threads for this some containing spoilers in their Title
Ex. (Not true but) Being "Any of you guys happy to be playing as Echo?" ... Followed by you screaming FuUUU!!!
 
So since Watch_Dogs got delayed, I'm thinking about picking this one up as my second PS4 launch game. How fucked am I if I've never played a Killzone game before (story wise)?
 
After seeing that new PS4 commercial, I wanted to get KZ again because of all the epic sound effects in the ad with everything exploding and what not. However, now I'm thinking that BF4 will be more like that since KZ won't have huge confrontations like in that commercial, right? I'm not sure though; both games look awesome.

Well it is 30years later so it is somewhat fresh witha new plot and new cast

If you still want to get up to shape without playing the games you could just go and watch the cutscenes for the series like a movie and then finish it up by going to the KZ lore thread here on GAF

You should be fine since it takes place 30 years after kz2/kz3. You can always go to killzones website and catch up on the lore. Its actually a pretty good read and gives you details on what both sides are fighting for.

The Killzone universe has a massive backstory, but this one takes place 30 years after Killzone 3, so you should be good. You can always read up a little about the Helghast vs. ISA conflict before playing.

yep... too bad that was in 2007 and FPS as a genre has yet to improve upon it.
I've got high hopes for KZ:SF, but i'm not expecting levels the size of Assault.

*edit... man, Assault and Contact were the two best FPS levels ever IMO.
 
Well since I just swapped out my now-delayed WD pre-order for Shadow Fall, it's time to pay more attention :)

Also, I have a feeling a lot more people will be picking this up now because of the WD delay. Should make for a much stronger online community at launch.

We dont know about the scale of confrontations... but dont forget that BF3 had REALLY SHORT singleplayer campaign.

I would eagerly sacrifice 2-3 insanely scripted battles for a nicely paced 10-12hr campaign.

The story is simple

Earth has to be abandoned
Eventually two factions form - ISA and the Helghast
Helghast decide to get away from ISA - go live on a far away planet (this planet is fucked up so they have to wear masks)
Eventually due to some political issues Helghast invades ISA planet (Killzone I)
ISA fights back (Killzone 2)
ISA blows up Helghan planet (Killzone 3)
ISA grants amnesty to Helghast - allow them to live on their planet (Killzone Shadow Fall)

You are forgetting the most important part. ISA attacked Helgan fist. They are not 100% goody gooody guys.

Helgans are innocent! DEATH TO THE ISA SCUMM!!!!!!!

It's a shooter, there's not much of a story in any of the games.

There is however quite a lot of interesting lore in the overall Killzone universe but you have to look at wikis to get all that. You'll see maybe 10% of it in the 3 games.

I'd love it if she were actually the main character. Guerrilla's female designs are fairly consistently the best in the series, yet we've only ever played as one of them

yea you play as the evil asshole in this series. ISA attacks Helghast and eventually blows up their entire planet...

Fuck yeah. I don't necessarily want to see anything new, I'd just like to be assured that the single player is meaty and encourages multiple playthroughs. The Crysis/Halo influence is very, very welcome.

Earth is still kicking they are the main rulers of the Human colonies... Vekta, Mars, that other ocean planet, etc... all receive orders from Earth

The Helghast bought both Vekta and Helghan from the human exploration corporation (can't remember their names)
Only to have Vekta taken back from them by force do to monopolizing trade and becoming wealthy.... Hence why the Helghast have a major grudge against the ISA....

Note: in KZ3 the VSA abandon to help the ISA's retreat since Earth commanded them not to.... Also Stahl wanted to destroy Earth to make all the other colonies to fall in line under Helghan rule since clearly they are the main honchos running the show


Helghan even though it is mostly inhabitable... Currently fully inhabitable is the most energy abundant planet out of all the colonies therefore Earth wishes to gain that planet as well
