(maybe) LTTP: The Division

#1
Edit: Bought it, add me on uplay to play sometime Nolimit_SS

With the Division 2 trailer and it coming next year I thought it would be a good time to finally buy the Division, it's around 15$ for gold edition on uplay or gmg if I recall which seems like a good deal, but I'm not sure if I should get it.
I know the updates improved the game vastly but I hear it's best when played with friends, and I have none that would play with me. Not sure how many people are playing on PC these days, how easy it would be to team up (are servers region locked?) especially with me not having set time of date to play, just whenever I get in the mood.

I always liked the setting and game seemed cool aside from enemies being bullet sponges but I skipped on it as I was gifted Destiny 2 and that kinda filled the role. I did quit destiny quickly and was bored but I always liked this game more in theory.

So is it worth getting now if I might be only playing solo, is the endgame mainly grinding gear? I know pvp is kinda meh and heard it's still full of hackers so not that much interested in that, mainly if the story and gameplay is good, hopefully get some people to level and play with and if there's any sort of endgame to keep me with it for a bit it might be ok.

I played it when it released and I thought it was worthy it. I think you can't go wrong for 15 bucks.

I know it's not a lot of money or a big deal but money and time is kinda tight so I wanna be sure before getting it, I'll sleep on it and decide tomorrow tho, keeping the page open to get it if I decide to.

What most interests me if I for example only play it solo and through campaign and decide not to do any endgame activities, or try them few times, is that a good enough experience? I know asking if it's worth it is very subjective experience and money wise but still.
I know I'll try to find people to play with, go through the game and give the endgame a shot for a bit but I'm sure like with destiny2 it won't take too long for me to get bored (not biggest fan of repeating same content over and over), but if that experience is worth playing, paying and time wise then I'm getting it.

I sure there will be a boost of players online since they announced Division 2. I don't think you'll have an issue finding people.
Ive been playing here and there for the past couple months and since E3 getting groups is definitely a lot quicker.

I expect even more people will be logging on when they start the Shields program next month.

I played it solo for a couple dozen hours and never reached the endgame. There's a ton of quality content. It's a good shooter in a fantastic setting. Found the action a lot better than Destiny 2 on PC. The excellent physics make it feel less like a numbers game - which it is - and more like a regular shooter. I rarely faced bullet sponges because I paid attention to my equipment and mission level requirements.

The bullet sponges killed this for me.
The setting is nice and the missions are actually pretty fun (at least better than vanilla Destiny which was my reference point at the time).

But I really dislike bullet sponges and that's basically the only thing you fight in this game. That combined with slow paced and cover based combat really don't go well together IMO

I loved the game. I played it solid for over a year and a half. I haven't touched it in six months though, because they stopped adding new content and you really have to grind to be able to play seriously in the endgame.

If you are on the fence, the only thing I can say is that the single player experience is great playing the missions and the story the first time through is immersive.

But - unless you are willing to grind, I don't think you will have much fun in the endgame, especially since the top players have put in hundreds of hours to get min-maxed classified gear sets.

That's what I'm not into and hence me being on the fence. Years of wow ruined all of my tolerance for grinding and mmo, i can only do it fora bit. Like in destiny i spent a month or two after maxing doing raids etc but it was ok first few times but after that i was miserable and only playing becahs it was an expensive gift and one day i finally uninstalled. Had other issues with that game but i was just bored. So yeah not into min maxing anymore and grinding specific thing for weeks or months just so i can do same thing but tiny bit better lol

The story is okay at best, the gameplay is really cool though. World is filled with content (collectibles, activities etc.) and afaik they are adding the SHIELD initiative today (allows you to unlock stuff for Division 2). You‘re probably too late for endgame though, at least without access to a group of players. Public matches are unforgiving (they either boot you/quit on you right away for not being max gear score or for lighting the „I‘m new to this“ lights above your head). Same goes for the Dark Zone, very unforgiving place if you don‘t have maxed gear to end a group of rogues right away.

Can‘t really go wrong for 15€, although it‘s best enjoyed in a group. There is a Division community on Discord (from the subreddit) that is very welcoming and usually helps gear new people, can shoot you the invite if you are interested. They recently posted about trying to be more welcoming and helping new people cause they seem to really care about the game and want it to have a big playerbase.

If you are on X1 grab yourself a 1 months season pass for $1 and then a 6 month game pass for $30(50% off) from Amazon or Best Buy. They just added The Division to the game pass, it will basically last you almost till The Division 2's release.

Night.Ninja

One really creepy thing I do is just repeatedly shit on GAF while sarcastically calling it a "top tier gaming forum" so feel free to report me if I keep doing this.

Tried playing it today with gamepass again and its not my type of game

Hurts because it was one of the reasons I bought a next gen console

Sounds like you picked it up. Enjoy the first part of the game, it's the best part by a long shot.

I'm not really sure if they ever addressed all of my issues with it, but I never even ended up finishing the campaign or getting max level. Dark Zone was a really cool idea that is just really hard to make work given how people are.

My biggest complaints were the bullet spongieness of all enemies past level (I think 25?) and the lack of interesting enemy types. Liked the idea of all the gadgets, but it usually boiled down to using only one of a few.

The thing is, the game was updated every once in a while and all the gadgets, weapons and playstyles changed everytime, which helped keep the gameplay interesting for a long time.

Yes they fixed most issues with the game, at least on consoles. The experience on PS4 at least was very consistent since update 1.4... or 1.5? Not sure.

I love the setting and lore, really appreciate the obvious love that went into the backstory and world (so much so that I bought the associated book/survival guide), and thoroughly enjoy the game mechanics.

Only two real gripes.

1) Bulletsponges, especially in multiplayer co-op endgame. I played with a steady group of friends through the campaign, and we got tired of that pretty quick. We pretty much dropped the game because it.

2) Lack of resolution in the story. I think you'll see what I mean. Hopefully, this will be remedied in the sequel.

But the campaign is fun as hell. Enjoy! :)

So... The first play-through is really good--unless you hate cover shooters.

Beyond that, the grind is good >Destiny... If you're not into the grind, yeah, you probably won't like it.

I think the bulletsponges is a legit gripe, but it's also an outdated gripe imo.

I had a good time with the game but went back to D1 as the guns in the division were all very similar and the I couldn't make my character look the way I wanted.

That and everyone I know that was playing it dropped it after a couple of weeks.

Bullet sponges depend on what kind of endgame content you're looking for.

Challenging story missions and Underground will make everyone an elite bullet sponge but in that case you should be prioritizing Enemy Armor Damage and Damage to Elites on your builds, and they will melt relatively quickly. Legendary Missions are going to bring back sponginess but that's because they're intentionally the hardest missions in the game and give you insane weekly rewards for completing them.

Extended Hard Underground missions and the Dark Zone have a good mix of enemies, are fun to play, and give you a nice shot a loot, without needing to prioritize PvE attributes and talents. I play the Dark Zone constantly and you generally will have enough breathing room to clear landmarks and extract without sweating Rogues coming to gank your extractions. Matchmaking is also very easy and fast from the map.

Three Five Seven has the best channel on YouTube for how to build, with very short videos that tell you everything you need to know about PvE vs PvP builds and his "Stop Hoarding" videos are must watch for anyone with an endgame character.

I'm having hard time in 26-28 zone as 28, I do ALL side missions etc but damn do I get stomped. Yes I cover etc but 4-5 enemies, flanking me, rushing me, then if there's one of those elite or purples ones I can't do much. Plus encounters where they spawn from all sides I can't get good cover and few hits kill me, jesus. My gear is pretty updated but still :|
