I know the ship hasn't completely sailed on Wii Music yet, but it certainly isn't receiving the kind of attention that the other Wii-branded games have (in Japan) in the past. I can't wait to read opinions (esp. from industry and marketing experts) as to why this is.

Maybe I have the wrong opinion of consumers in general, but I kind of thought that the folks who picked up (and probably enjoyed) Wii Sports, Wii Play and Wii Fit had gotten to the point where they'd pick up any Wii-branded game, even if they didn't know much about it (or what they knew about it didn't interest them all that much).

I originally thought the lack of interest in Wii Music came down to the fact that that perhaps NOJ hadn't properly marketed the game - i.e. they didn't convey to consumers what the product was all about. Now, though, I'm thinking it's much easier than that - that Japanese consumers, by and large, just aren't that interested in the product.

It'll be interesting to see how Japanese consumers respond to Animal Crossing. And if they respond with a "meh" like they have re: Wii Music, will NOJ have a rough holiday season in terms of hardware, or will sales of Wii Fit, Mario Kart Wii et al be enough for them to see healthy harware sales?
Yeah I pretty much thought the Wii userbase would've bought Wii Music by the dozen. I guess we need to learn to give the casual Wii audience a bit more credibility when it comes to taste.

Animal Crossing will be a beast, it had a nice debut on the GCN and since the DS iteration it has grown tremendously.

Samurai franchise is horrible IMO, I like Tenchu games much more. Did Samurai games sell well in the past?

Samurai games in general or do you mean Samurai Dou/The way of the samurai series ?

but it's no and no also

Does someone here if Samurai Western is also part of the series? Its from Spike too but I'm not sure if its a spin-off or a totally different game
(PS2, 2005) Samurai Western - 77,258

plus Samurai Dou Portable , port of the first game on PSP did only 7K first day , 14K first week ( it's on 40K now I think ) , but as a Series Samurai Dou is smaller than Tenchu .

thing is , Japanese hate the realistic Samurai games ( i am talking about Samurai not Ninja games ) , they are more into the fantasy Samurai games like Onimusha , Samurai Warriors , BASARA , Samurai 7 ect .

not only Samurai Dou , most Samurai games failed to be huge hits last gen or on PS2, Samurai Dou 1 , 2 , Samurai Western , Code of the Samurai , Sword of the Samurai , 7th Blades , Kengo , Shinsengumi , Doemu Samurai Toujou and Blood Will Tell all bombs in Japan .

but the funny thing is , RGG Kenzan did near 300K on dead PS3 ( 175K first week ) , but it's part of RGG series so I don't know .

also , I don't know why but Ninja games sell much more better in japan than Samurai games .

Are you keeping the drops in context where it charts? Meaning when Yuusha dropped was it still at a high number?

15k may seem like a drastic drop for Wii Music but if many of the other titles are only doing 17-20k it may all be relative the current state of the market.

Both games were released the same day. They are in the same context

Spiegel is correct in that I'm probably too early in saying that Wii Music is showing signs of "expanded audience" legs. I was looking at the relative chart position instead of the more telling absolute sales. While all games tend to get a boost around holidays, I think individual games are fairly insulated from each other's performance the rest of the time, so market conditions shouldn't be a heavy factor for an individual game's performance from a % standpoint.

Looks like Microsoft finally broke into Japan. All it took was games that were of budget and quality and actually appealed to Japanese gamers.

Or a 33% price drop, whatever works!

The game seems to have done ok, it had "95pt" from a retailer preorder day before release. The number itself is useless unless you compare it to other numbers and something recent like GTA4 had about double that. So you can expect about 50k first week.

Some other numbers (they go up closer to release, but even then #1 shouldn't be surprising)
Dragon Quest 9 - 810
Gundam vs. PSP - 297
Fate/unlimited codes - 231
Professor Layton - 207
Chrono Trigger - 201
Dissidia - 176
Animal Crossing - 172
Kingdom Hearts PSP - 152
Tales of Hearts (anime edition) - 126
Yu-gi-oh Duel Monsters GX - 121
Dragon Quest 6 - 109
Winning Eleven 2009 PS3 - 108
Romance of 3 Kingdoms PS2 LE- 101
Animal Crossing Bundle - 92
The Last Remnant X360 - 80
Gundam Musou 2 PS3 - 78
White Knight - 77
Kingdom Hearts 358/2 - 75
Haruhi Wii LE - 60
Biohazard 5 PS3 - 59

Not looking good for TLR since it comes out next week.

Preorders from a retailer in Japan.

Don't try extrapolating them into hard sales figures in an attempt to predict software for the coming week. Been down that road before in Media-Create threads. Doesn't work. Frustrating when new posters "discover" it and try the process all over again. :p

NDS Tongari Boushi no Mahou no 365 Nichi (Little Magician's Magic Adventure) - 20,000 (shipment supposed to exceed 100k)

Whee... this game completely deserved to bomb horribly, they didn't even attempt to cover up how much of a rip-off of animal crossing it is. The sad part is though that due to Animal Crossing becoming so stale, and what a 100% copy of animal crossing with improvements this is. I think an argument can be made that this is a better game.

It's funny that even though there's a 45% difference on the PS3 numbers between highest and lowest tracker this week, all 3 are in complete agreement that PS3 is selling 1:1 with GT5P.
Either everyone is ignoring the LBP bundle or the trackers all assume that people do.

The GT5P bundle is considerably cheaper and a much more popular game, it's reasonable enough to assume it's by far the more popular choice.

Pawapuro Pocket 11 (DS) has been delayed from 12/4 to 12/18 and so it joins: a new Harvest Moon for DS, Suikoden DS, Momotarou Dentetsu DS, Ragnarok Online, Fate Arcade to PS2 port, Gundam Musou 2 and Dissidia. Great week that one will be.

The funny thing, Samurai Dou 3's first day is pretty good. It doesn't deserve it though >_<

:lol , yeah just saw the numbers , also RGG Kenzan did good too , maybe PS3 owners are into Samurai games or something .

but I agree with you , most of last gen realistic Samurai games are not big projects , maybe this is the problem with these games .

Wow. PSP and Wii are almost in lockstep. :lol

Also, it appears that the PS3 and 360 are setting a pattern here. Significant release? Good amount of sales. Few weeks later? Back to moribund-land.

Nothing seems to be selling well on the Wii recently (at least, after ToS2). Here's hoping Nintendo learns from this and tries to avoid such weak release schedule for the year's end next time.

How is VP doing from a comparison standpoint and from the fact that it isnt a mainline VP style title

In VP: Lenneth's first week, it did about 70k, and in the following ~20k. For the month of March (when it was released) it went on to ~115k. I can't find VP2's debut numbers for Japan in the Sales Archive, though, so no comparison there.

So going off of that only, I'd say its doing pretty well. It'll probably go on to ~180k ltd in Japan.

edit: loooool, completely forgot about garaph. that'd have made things so much easier. :(
