is beloved, despite what anyone might say
Well, look to the bright side of the Stafy sales - maybe Nintendo will want to recoup those sales with a US release... yeah, I know, it's a pipe dream at this point. Though a 2D Stafy with Wario visuals for Wii would be a dream come true.

Impressive?

Which one are you talking about, both RE0 and ToS2 are very impressive

ToS2 is a spin-off and will have gotten almost 60-65% of its previous GC iteration (which was treated as a main line game)

RE0 has not one enhancement or change/addition and since the Wii can play old Gamecube games there is absolutely no reason to purchase it, it will probably bow out around 50k-60k or more depending if it sticks in the Top 30 for another 2 weeks

So yes both are impressive for what they are, and both should be very profitable for their publishers

It's amazing to me the sorts of data you guys can put together and make easily understandable. Pachter should hire every single one of you to keep him informed, 'cause it's ridiculous
ly awesome

Thanks for the publisher info, Smoker and JJ.

Well, little reason to purchase it. There are now about 2 million more people with Wiis than ever had GameCubes, so to that audience that didn't have GCNs this could be more convenient than needing to buy a GCN controller and memory card.

It's called waves, people. :p That said, the most exciting time seems to be the start of a generation, so it won't get that frantic again for a few more years.

BTW, the first post has been updated for a while, if anyone was curious about 31-50.

Once you see the writing on the wall and it has been the same theme going on two years, people aren't going to come in the thread enthusiastic about the systems. Nothing is going to change the predicament. It will pick up again once DQ9 and then FF13 come out.

The writing should have been on the wall this time last year. I was surprised that the holdouts kept the faith for as long as they did.

Thats cause nothing has happened in sales age for a while.

The PS3 bump is almost gone.
PSP has been owning hardware too long that its expect now.
DS dominating software with most titles.
Wii has the same 4 games selling the same amount every week with new releases here and there that drops quickly.
Xbox 360 failing.

I mean here's how the usual media create sales thread goes.

1. Sales posted.
2. A few comment "Woah look at Wii Fit, MKWii, MHP2G leg"
3. Then comes the discussion on this new game and decide whether it did good or not.
4. Hardware is posted
5. Quick LOL PS3 and Xbox 360
6. A WTF DS must get new color/remake/price drop so it can beat the PSP
7. Someone comments how does PSP selling so much hardware but have so little games that chart and is replied with "LOL MHP2G" or "LOL Piratez" and a short discussion about PSP software with some people still using games like MHX and G&G not showing in current charts as evidence to the fact that PSP doesn't sell software.
8. A bunch of charts and graphs that I can't tell if its from last week, a month ago, or a month in the future.
9. First day sales posted.
10. People post various bomba posts. Then there's usually one game where people aren't sure whether its bomba, did decent or massive success and people slowly argue it for a next few days.
11. Famitsu numbers shows up and its probably the most active time of the week for the thread.
12. Rinse and repeat.

Sometimes we get lucky and someone comes in and starts an arguement, but he gets banned quickly so we don't get the same entertainment new week.

MC threads become boring when the status quo has already been established. MC threads become interesting when fanboy projections are made and occasionally fulfilled.

Most holdouts these days are within their specific threads, promoting the next big non-exclusive thing to all and trying to convince us that it's the next big seller. Either that, or reminiscing about that other big seller in the NPD threads, which are far more interesting because there is a semblance of a contest.

I know it was decided before that consoles don't move on news alone but can you explain the 360 doubling in sales the last month. Is it known as the home(This Gen) of jrpg's now in Japan?
Strange.

Strange.

It could very well be. Consoles don't move much on news alone, but with the 360 userbase being generally hardcore and among those who would actually be up on the news, it's "swell" could very well be due to the jRPG news of late.

It's unfortunate that FFXIII won't be released on the 360 in Japan. We've talked before about how many hardcore gamers buy a system to play a particular game and then sell it back. In that case, the 360+FFXIII would be a much lower price to pay for one game than PS3+FFXIII. Plus as you said, there are so many other jRPG games (esp. from Square-Enix) coming out/already out on the system compared to the Wii or PS3. (DS still reigns supreme by that measurement, of course.)

I'm curious how Wario Land Shake will do.

Previous Wario sales (from Joshua's site):
Wario Land 4 - 102,873 / 412,495
Wario World - 49,851 / 142,845
Wario: Master Of Disguise - 87,731 / 289,872

Damn Japs and their shitty taste.

They probably look at us and say the same thing, that is if they give a shit about our sales numbers.

I know that no one is going to care about this but.....

The Xbox 360 has, for the past month, outsold any comparible week that the X360, or Xbox ever had. This is very impressive given the fact that only 2 decent games launched in Gundam: Operation Troy (which sold 30k first week, then jumped off the top30), and Battlefield: Bad Company (10-13k ish).

Call me crazy, but the Xbox 360 is actually trending better than it has, as it's selling without the aid of a particular game:

http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pTLj2bA3Ha6v8H7pvGVxdPg

It would seem that gamers are actually (for the marketshare, and userbase) showing more and more support for the X360, despite it's absolute suckage for the first half of the year.

So it would seem that Tales, Infinite Undiscovery, The Last Remnant, Star Ocean 4, and now the XIII announcement have seemed to bolster sales. ToV sales will certainly be interesting - could they approach 100,000 for first week sales?

Edit: it would seem that Google Docs hates NeoGAF, so I had to post the link to the published chart.

I made a graph showing how the tie ratios have changed over the years for DS and PSP. Here, the tie ratio is defined as total software sold divided by total hardware sold LTD. Hardware numbers are from Famitsu and software numbers are based on the Famitsu software pie chart weighted with an estimation of total software sold (where I don't have the actual software numbers).

famitsu-dspsp-tie.png

I'm a little bit surprised that the PSP tie ratio has actually went down since the PSP slim launch. Even MHP2G didn't manage to get it back to the previous level. A decreasing tie ratio over a long period is quite unusual.

I think maybe he meant in general. The PSP has been selling very well since Crisis Core came out  Yet only a few titles have sold amazing.

Frankly I am happy with what the PSP is doing right now.

While the software sales could be FAR better, the hardware sales ensure that at least large budget games would sell very well.

I bet if Sega did a Valkyria Chronicles PSP, it probably would have sold 3 or 4 times better than its PS3 counterpart in Japan. In the USA it is another story.

Buying a console and using it almost exclusively with pirated games will do that to a system.

Same as above, now with Xb360, Wii and PS3.

The enigma to me is the 360 numbers. Who buys 3,700 360s a week in Japan? I bet most of them are shipped out of the country.. I mean seriously. Who? There isn't even a single 360 game in that top selling list.. the sales numbers still fluctuate regardless.

But Xb360 has the highest tie ratio of the current systems.

At least Konami can be happy that Pawapuro has found a decent fanbase on the Wii in the US, since it doesn't look like the PS2 is going to sustain them anymore, and the Wii version isn't gaining any traction in Japan.

And now we have a few million people to scapegoat should Wario Land be the last 2D console platformer. I mean, it's going to get outsold by Master of Disguise? Really?
