Media Create Sales: July 6-12, 2009 - Dragon Quest IX - 2.3 million

Synless said:
I would have to agree. You would be stupid to release a big name game in the same week as Dragon Quest in Japan. The only game that would sell just as well if it came out in the same day would be Final Fantasy, but that will never happen.
This isn't the late 90s anymore. The total lifetime sales of the original SKUs (no Ultimate Hits, no International Zodiac Job System) for Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy XII are slightly below what Dragon Quest IX did in its first 2 days.

They announced that they are possible, which I think is something rather different from actually saying that they will happen.
Watch out. Last time I said that I was tackled by some Nintendo fanboys saying "Nuh uh! DSi-only titles are already in the works!"

So I raise you a "Nuh uh!"

Not actually that important
The most-enhanced DSi mode for a DS game, that I can think of, I believe is the new Korg-DS coming out, where the changes are rather drastic in DSi mode (ie really gimped in DS mode)... but that's obviously not even in the same category as a DSi only game.

There already are DSi-only games. It's called DSiware. If you're talking about cartridges, there are already DSi-enhanced games being made for cartridges. It doesn't make sense to make DSi-only retail games, yet, because most of the market is still the DSLite. Anyone who doubts they'll eventually come, though, I would say is just sticking their head in the sand.

New DSLite and DSi colors don't seem to really make big splashes by themselves anymore.

Black Wii should be huge, though.

Why would they when the DS has sold ~5 million more units than the PS2?

I think to make a statement like that one has to have much more faith in their knowledge of the specifics of Nintendo's future plans than I would. The fact that Nintendo haven't announced any such games yet certainly seems to indicate it's not a priority. If the DSi winds up filling the role of Nintendo's #1 handheld platform for another 2-3 years it'd be pretty unlikely that such exclusive retail titles wouldn't show up, yes, but if we get a "new" Nintendo handheld in 2010 (or even maybe 2011) the pressing need for such things may not be strong enough to "make it happen" before the end of the DS' reign.

Probably for the same reason DQIX was able to lift sales despite DS sales being ~5 million more units than the PS2.

Come to think of it, even back in the days of the first DS, new colors didn't do all that much by themselves. They had to launch aside a new big game, but then we couldn't tell if the game or color did more to lift sales. The DS Lite would have sold out back in 2006 and 2007 even if they hadn't introduced new colors. The PSP is a pretty different story.

When I was in Japan a couple of weeks ago, MH3 was really being hyped in stores. Almost as much as DQIX. I'm sure it'll do really good!

Dunno. I do feel that Famitsu are lowballing the potential sales of the title, but after the weak year the Wii has had so far I'd probably be reluctant to wave huge figures around too...

Any estimates so far on 2nd week sales for DQ9?
Not a modern estimate, but this made me curious what DQ VII and VIII did the few weeks after their first

DQVII: 1.86M 1.07M 329K 155K 84K
DQVIII: 2.24M 560K 200K 117K 118K

I knew VII ended up with the higher total, but I didn't realize it only took until the second week to pass up what VIII sold in the same amount of time.

Yeah I'd be pretty surprised if ToV sold more on the PS3 than on the 360, after seeing how the PS3 port of Trusty Bell floundered.
I think it's a bit high too but it's a Tales of game, it should definitely do better than Trusty Bell PS3.

That much? And then people wonder why S-E places "Final Fantasy" in every title they possibly can...

I thought you weren't going to predict for Wii Sports Resort after week 3. Anyways, that would be an absolutely astounding second week for DQIX. I think it's possible that Wii Sports Resort will hold stronger around 90K, but I can't say that 70K would be a bad prediction, either.

That must be a given really, although its debatable that Famitsu expects Tales of Vesperia PS3 to do better than Tales of Vesperia 360 when Untrusty Bell PS3 did worse than Untrusty Bell 360 (I think that's what vicissitudes means).
What seems way too far fetched to me is their upper range for total forecast, which would be the best post-ps2 for the franchise, with way too good legs to boot.

jj984jj said:

Honestly, its taken quite a good while to get dated, its premise doesn't seem really appealing to a mass market and its being thrown on a really busy week. Let's see if it doesn't turn out like Sigma Harmonics.

By the way, SD Gundam and SRT lack of legs is way too funny to skip commenting about it.

While it is doubtful that ToV PS3 will outdo the X360 version, it will most likely have a better % of the 360's sales than Trusty Bell PS3 did to the X360 version (imho). It was well known that Trusty Bell wasn't a very good game, whereas ToV was/is great.

Well it is a whole 7 days worth of sales compared to just 2 days of sales from last week for dragon quest 9, as for wii sports resort i said that this week would be my last weekly prediction for the game, lets see if i can maintain my 100% record with the game...

Surprising looking at how popular Tales spinoffs are on the PSP.

I've had this thought that the depression doesn't necessarily remove people's demand for videogames, but makes them less inclined to act on their demand, particularly outside the major holidays. If the amount of people who want to buy videogames is more or less as large as usual, it's possible that they'll simply wait until Christmas to buy them. In that case, the holiday season won't be as affected (in a negative sense) by the depression.

The depression????? What depression are you talking about?

What's worse is that these are preliminary chartzz numbers. The ban should be twice as long for this offense.

Monster Hunter bundles will save Wii and PSP.

People are holding back now to buy the cheaper psp 3000 bundle with MHP2g next week and the MH3 bundle the week after next.

Maybe

Iirc, Square Enix only shipped 3m copies of DQ IX as of last week, so does this mean sell-through of the game was more than 95% by the end of last week?

The release of the black Wii next Saturday is definetely affecting Wii sales. Next week it will be even lower. But yes, everything is down. For me the negative surprise is PS3. Although Pro Yakyuu Spirits 6 was released and did really well PS3 slipped again below 9000.
