Good numbers for Growlanser.

I hope after seeing Persona and Growlanser sales Atlus will release some high quality games for PSP.

These are first day sales, so you can expect something closer to maybe 15k for the week, but yes, this isn't great news. Konami's handling of the franchise on the Wii has been terrible - the only good decision they made was in letting the dev team rework the series fully, but they seem to have made every attempt to sabotage that good work at every stage.

The sad part is that they´ll most likely will make the developers responsible for this sales. It was acceptable that the first one (Playmaker2008) was released late since it basically was a completely new gameplay, Playmaker 2009 on the other hand didn´t have this excuse but it released even later than all the other versions than its predecessor did. Playmaker 2010 looks like a late release too...

Famitsu First Day Sales (05/14)

[PSP] Bleach: Heat the Soul 6 (SCE) - 20,000 (40%)
[PSP] Growlanser (Atlus) - 19,000 (50%)
[WII] Winning Eleven Playmaker 2009 (Konami) - 8,500 (20%)
[PS2] Rakushou! Pachi-Slot Sengen 6: Rio 2 Cruising Vanadis (Tecmo) - 5,000 (30%)
[PS2] Arcobaleno! (Idea Factory) - SE 1,000 (40%) / LE 700 (40%)

Growlanser does really good for a overpriced port (it cost 700Y more than Persona and doesn't include extras). It's going to sell close, perhaps better, than the last Growlanser game for ps2

WE2009 does disappointing numbers. Konami should stop doing experiments and release all the versions the same day

Bleach does exactly like the last game did last year. 20k

EDIT

It seems I was wrong. Sinobi says BHTS5 did 23k first day

Based on the latest Media Create hardware numbers...
DS vs PSP: Weekly shares of 59.5 / 40.5 bring total shares to 68.3 / 31.7. If DS stopped selling and PSP continued at this week's rate, it would catch up in 329.9 weeks (September 6, 2015).

X360 vs PS3: Weekly shares of 21.5 / 78.5 bring total shares to 24.5 / 75.5. If PS3 stopped selling and X360 continued at this week's rate, it would catch up in 417.4 weeks (May 11, 2017).

PS3 vs Wii: Weekly shares of 43.1 / 56.9 cap PS3's string of Media Create weekly victories at 10. It's also the highest Wii number in over three months. This brings total shares to 28.2 / 71.8. If Wii stopped selling and PS3 continued at this week's rate, it would catch up in 261.8 weeks (May 17, 2014).

Week over week, Nintendo systems are slightly up, while everything else is slightly down.
X360

Through the first nineteen weeks of the year, almost everything is down by some degree. Here's how the year-to-date year-over-year percents stand as of now.

Wii: -64.0%
DSL+DSi: -1.3%
PS2: -50.9%
PS3: +28.0%
PSP: -42.8%
X360: +246.2%

Home hardware: -36.3%
Portable hardware: -24.4%
Sum of all hardware: -29.2%

Or it just released! Its first day only, like I said last year version did 20k first day. The comparison is trying to show WE downfall though, "2009" 5 versions could very well end up combined below a million. Just a few years ago the PS2 version was more than enough to hit that.

Oh! In that case I'd like to offer the scenario that writing "February" there might have been a mistake. Is that possible?

Most of the versions are holding near/above the 2008 levels with the exception of PS2, which is about ~400k short...

Incorrect, Growlanser PSP includes new characters and story to the game. So it isn't a simple port.

Based on the latest Famitsu hardware numbers...
PSP comparisons: After 229 weeks, PSP is where PS2 was at 182.0 weeks (August 24, 2003), where DS was at 100.2 weeks (October 30, 2006), and where GBA was at 154.8 weeks (March 6, 2004).

X360 comparisons: After 177 weeks, X360 is where GCN was at 16.7 weeks (January 4, 2002), where PS3 was at 37.1 weeks (July 23, 2007), and where Wii was at 5.3 weeks (January 2, 2007).

PS3 comparisons: After 129 weeks, PS3 is where PS2 was at 44.2 weeks (January 2, 2001), where PSP was at 66.4 weeks (March 15, 2006), where GCN was at 121.1 weeks (January 5, 2004), and where Wii was at 37.4 weeks (July 25, 2007).

So PS3 has finally escaped from what PS2 did in its launch calendar year, March-December.

Wii comparisons: After 126 weeks, Wii is where GBA was at 95.7 weeks (January 17, 2003), where DS was at 76.6 weeks (May 18, 2006), where PS2 was at 114.6 weeks (May 9, 2002), and where PSP was at 165.5 weeks (February 6, 2008).

DSi comparisons: After 26 weeks, DSi is where GBASP was at 45.0 weeks (December 21, 2003) and where DSL was at 14.8 weeks (June 10, 2006).

Famitsu Software Stuff

For those who have been watching the Media Create sales, these Famitsu ones will be even more old hat than usual, BUT HEY, now I can throw them into my graphs.

Monster Hunter G Wii (3504) starts off slightly stronger than the 2005 PS2 game it's a port of (2077).
400

PSP original Disaster Report 3 (3506) doesn't start as strong as the PS2 original (935), but stronger than the PS2 sequel (2419).
400

Though Animal Crossing Wild World has most recently been on the charts, this week it doesn't show up but City Folk does. City Folk has gained about 35K since we saw it last 1-2 months ago.
3281+-+Animal+Crossing%3A+City+Folk+-+Wii

It refuses to leave the Top 10, but Mario & Luigi RPG 3 (3432) is finally slowing down a little.
400

Famitsu Software Pie: With Monster Hunter G Wii has 27.6% of overall software sales, getting second place--to DS of course. This is its first second place and first week of over 20% since doing so throughout most of December and January.

i dont understand konami and their PES Wii deal

the games are astonishingly well made polished and the 2009 version brings so many improvements over the (already godly) 2008 version its not funny

but they completely kill its selling potential by releasing it like half a year later

wtf

Did they announce a PS2 version? I noticed yesterday that Konami plans 0 games for PS2 to be released in the next fiscal year but I thought they didn't drop the PS2 WE/PES yet.

Btw, about Growlanser, I'm trying to find a first day figure for any of the previous titles...and I can't find a single one! It also seems that not a single Growlanser title charted in its 3rd week on sale, just the 1st and 2nd at best. Its that niche. Since there's so little data, I'll just post everything now so we can compare when we get first week data for the PSP port.

Code:

Notes:
- First 4 titles had "Atlus Best Collection" re-releases but impossible for me to track
- Growlanser IV (R) is Growlanser IV Return, sort-of an expansion to IV

Ah, still. Considering they added new story and characters, and the job they've done with the graphics "overhaul" is really awesome, I'm working on the thread and got some comparison pics between the original PSX version running on a PSP and the PSP version.

It's weird, really. It's one of those series that doesn't seem popular but it's not totally niche either, at least here in Japan. Most of the games go on to sell a solid amount though, from what I recall.
